I totally agree. I'm a CPA and I have spoken with acquaintances who are government auditors. They have said that tax money is very mismanaged. For example, If gov. department A is given a certain amount of funds, that department will spend every last cent, because if they don't, it will be deemed that they don't need as much and they will be allocated less money in next years budget. So this leads to many unnecessary expenditures, like buying new computers and office chairs multiple times a year when they are absolutely not needed.

I will say as far as the payroll tax: While it’s “supposed” to be split between the company and the employee, in practice it’s been found that companies simply just started paying people less to make up the difference, effectively making the employee still pay the whole thing.
@tracy_cakkes4 жыл бұрын
That’s sad
@robertdouth89794 жыл бұрын
That's not true though. If they pay all their employees less, then their bottom line grows for the much higher income tax burden, which means they pay more in taxes since the corporate income tax is based on net revenue and not gross revenue. Therefore you can't pass any of that tax burden onto the employee. What actually happens is that the tax is calculated and factored into the final price and bumped up slightly so that even after taxes the revenue remains similar. Furthermore the government forcing businesses to provide cookie cutter health insurance also leads to you making less money. Instead of being able to make 20% more at your job and have a free market to shop for the insurance you like best that would advertise and offer extra services to you like Geico does for car insurance. Instead you get one of 3 plans usually from a job if you are lucky and they are shitty, less shitty, and most expensive, and then you get paid 20% less than you are worth because the company deems this subpar insurance as part of your remuneration.

Trump had faster growing wages than Obama who had higher tax rates... stealing money from successful people won’t make someone richer if they work a low skill job
@fartherdude50623 жыл бұрын
Actually wages did increase under the tax plan, what trump did is he ALSO cut taxes for the middle class and it helped boost wages. When companies do better they raise wages, when they raise wages people spend more or invest. This is why Trump’s tax plan was quite good plus optimism. Most people got a tax cut especially independent contractors and people in the Gig Economy who are becoming vitally important. Whether or not it as intentional I don’t know but it’s nice to see instead of owing 1,200 you now owe 950$. It’s not much but again it is money savings. The problem with Joe Bidens tax plan is it’s terrible especially where we are. We are in a recession and small/medium businesses are dropping left and right and now he wants to tax these small and medium business owners who are in these top tax brackets? Inflation is already increasing and he also wants to increase the minimum wage to 15$ federally. Biden is legitimately going to destroy the economy out of ignorance. It is a balance, yes sometimes taxes must go up but it’s when you do it that’s important. What we should be doing is incentivizing people to move up and give them tax credits like the home tax credit. We should give tax credits to people who finish their college degree. We should give tax credits to people who invest their money and we should give incentives to people who get off of welfare so they have more incentive to get off of it.

The government should have invested that money in assets and every retiree would be a millionaire (like with the Norwegian Sovereign Wealth Fund). But because SS was designed as a pyramid scheme and not meant to generate wealth, between it, Medicare and Medicaid you are looking at potentially a 200 Trillion dollar deficit. The people at the bottom of the pyramid are going to get screwed royally. It's already estimated that SS benefits will have to get cut 30%. Imagine if the government was honest and told it's citizens, "hey, for every dollar I take from you, I will give you 70 cents back in retirement. Now doesn't that sound like a good deal to you." @@od4407 I agree with consulting professionals when needed. However, the average person doesn't have anything complex with their taxes. Graham does realize that when the government uses the money poorly and cost ineffectively, the government has more reason to say "raise taxes, we need more money to solve such issues." If the government used the money properly and effectively saving money, the people would demand lower taxes because a government does not need a surplus. Also Graham says he's fine paying more taxes to benefit others but in the current system we're in he can already do with which he wants to accomplish by private means by being a private donor for good, proven causes with history of results and improvements.

Whether he does it himself completely misses the point that he wants the government to force everybody to do it. That is the argument. Otherwise I agree with your post.

In Australia we have the First home buyers grant that has gone through many forms. When it was giving money to the buyer, prices just went up to reflect that extra buying power. Any credit you give to a buyer will just make the seller calculate it into their selling price. Edit: To add to the above, the first homebuyers grant is now Free Stamp Duty on your purchase but it still has the same effect.
