My father adored George Gershwin’s music so I grew up listening to it. I still adore it at the grand old age of 71. I just wish my father was still alive to hear John Wilson’s fabulous band.

My wife and I are in our early 80's. We grew up listening to this music. I just discovered your orchestra on KZbin, and we are in awe of what you have accomplished in recreating the music of the MGM era. Kudos to you and your orchestra for bringing smiles of delight to us. it is so very much appreciated. We pray you keep up what you do so very well. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Gershwin is as great as any composer a century or two before. John Wilson is brilliant and wise at embracing this man. I am delighted that Russian groups are adoring Gershwin, one of their native, exported sons and they say "I could tell...I knew he was one of us". Jazz was banned in the Soviet Union for decades and now the true Russians get to play their own son come home. John Wilson is similarly a Russo-American at heart by loving George and doing his work such a fine turn.

6:25 And that's what I appreciate so much about John Wilson, he doesn't treat any of this music as simply an American novelty.

I have been a follower of the John Wilson Orchestra as the orchestrations bring fond remembrances of the tunes of the”40’s”. The musicians appear to be nearly constant with minor changes in placement. May I be advised of the name of the violinist seated behind the principal violin.?

Promenade concerts had existed in London's pleasure gardens since the mid 18th century, and indoor proms became a feature of 19th century musical life in London from 1838.

He said he was a man who wrote 4 songs first thing in the morning, to get the bad ones out of his system. Hope that helps!

It's a shame that Ira Gershwin isn't mentioned. He wrote the words to George's melodies.

I've seen most of Johns shows on tour, in several venues, but I must say, that the sound balance between orchestra and singer's was not good. Frankly, i'd rather just hear the orchestra AND, with less of the jazzy stuff. But they are the best in the World--no mistake.
@Thursdaym24 жыл бұрын
Less of the jazzy stuff? Sorry, you sound a bit of a square. I'm 80 and still cool!
