My family was on vacation opening weekend and I had to wait until we got home to see it. The suspense was killing me.

I was there opening weekend as an 11 year old with my class and it was awesome. Yes I am old now but great memories. The lines outside the theatres are now of a bygone age.

It was fun. I was 19 years old in 1983 and I loved Star Wars for 6 years at that time. I still love it.

That summer I graduated from elementary school. My mom refused to wait in the lines so we had to wait 2 weeks extra weeks before I could see it....was the longest two week of my life!!!

Return of the Jedi was the very first SW movie I saw at the cinema. I wanted to see ESB back in 1980 but my parents wouldn't let me go because I was only four years old. But I cherished my Darth Vader figurine and Yoda pop-up book even though I had never seen a SW movie. In 1983 my parents finally thought I was old enough for a SW movie. It was better than I hoped. At the time I lied to my grandparents so I could see it again.

It was the first one I saw too. I was only 6 and don't think I knew much about Star Wars. We had toys lying around from my older brother and I heard about it from older kids. I just remember seeing the ads on TV with Luke swinging the saber on the barge and thinking it looked great. My friends my age saw it too, and we all collected tons of the merchandise after that.

@@johnnyjohnson I was 6 as well. For a while I only knew the original movies from the Story Of cassette tapes and picture books. I remember when I finally got to see ANH on a network TV broadcast. I thought it seemed quite slow at the beginning! I think we had to rent Empire. I didn't own the movies on VHS until their price came down for a 3-pack in 1989.

@@jedijones I can't remember if I listened to the cassette tapes and picture books from Star Wars, but I certainly remember them from other movies. I think I had the Gremlins picture book and either a record or cassette tape long before I saw the movie. Those were the days. 🙂

Special effects of over 30 million dollars! Imagine a Star Wars film made on that now, I think each episode of the Mandalorian is $10 million! What I would have given to go see ROTJ in the cinema though...
