One thing i learned is when i tried to force myself to go on a self healing/improvement journey in my gap year I learned. That it is not a single trip but an everlong journey within your life keep improving and keep growing guys
i agree i think it also has a lot to do with the willingness to let go of the belief that it is possible to achieve the accomplishment of being "HEALED"/"IMPROVED" i think its a naturally uncomfortable thought when considering the need to manage the journey of healing in tandem with the everyday interactions & responsibilities. trying to segregate the focus of awarenenss almost in defiance of the notion of having to manage both efforts

You ever read a book that is just so dense you have to take it 1 piece at a time? That's how I feel about Aperture. Everything is so useful, every video so dense with great knowledge, but I can't watch every video because I'm usually still processing the last one by the time the next comes out. The quality is amazing and I've never seen a bad Aperture video.

The situations we find ourselves in sometimes define who we are at that moment. Life's unpredictable and that's a hard pill to swallow. Do your best in whatever you're doing and try something.

Something worth asking might be, what kind of person even concerns themselves with such things? Most people lack the insight or the analytical ability to conceive of themselves as anything other than their daily experiences. They react from their emotional gut and don't think much beyond what happens in the present moment. Consequences of actions are something you deal with later when they occur. The message of this video is meaningful but not to many. Is a journey of self-discovery to be led by what you want? Or should we try to discover what we are, in spite of what we want? Do we seek a self that is hidden or do we express the self that exists in the moment? How will you recognize yourself when you find your self? Perhaps the best method of being true to yourself is to always ask yourself, "Am I acting/feeling this way because of my own desires or what others expect of me?" " What do I value - doing or being?", is another good question.

Love this. So true. Currently trying to “wake up” from the ever reactive and limiting ego that has taken over.

Indeed, Stoicism beckons us to embrace a mindset of resilience and equanimity-a state of being undefeatable in the face of life's trials and tribulations. It invites us to confront adversity with courage, to embrace hardship as a crucible for growth, and to find serenity amidst the chaos.

I started an in depth inner journey at age 29 while I was in the Army. I’m 42 now. The most disturbing part about this journey has been, I find myself being most authentic when I’m not around people. Yet, the paradox is, without others, I cannot exist.

In self-discovery, I find it helpful to make a distinction between my ego, and my Inner Presence: The ego tells stories about the experiences of this meat-suit. My Inner Presence is the part of me still in existence long after this meat-suit is worm food. There’s at least two of us in here; more of you subscribe to the Inner Family Systems construct. When asking “Who am I,” it’s important to first decide which “I” I’m talking about.

If you want to know yourself I think you should ask people who are close with you what they think of you, maybe it can help you see what you show compared to what you want to show the world.

@@alexm-e4910Have you asked yourself why you're deciding to learn about yourself, what you hope to learn or where you want to end up? If we don't have a plan, a framework we are shooting in the dark, a perilous and treacherous journey. Once you have a framework do not fight for understanding rather let it come to you, when we attack for input we don't see the output until it's too late. I believe Reading philosophy books can be beneficial, even if you disagree with their philosophy. In my opinion this only strengthens your philosophical viewpoint upon reflection.

@@Betweoxwitegan I have a master’s degree in philosophy so I keep up on my readings. Mostly, I’m tired of waiting my turn to die. Figure if I’m going to be sticking around, might as well try and learn to like the person I’m stuck with (being myself). Never did care for him, but that’s unhealthy.
