I remember this episode! I have not seen it since it aired. I feel like I just took a time machine back to the late ‘80s. I wish I could go back in time to the simpler days. 🥺

The ending of this episode when Mr. Anton went into Judge Franklin's office and broke the news that his son had just passed away. At the 18:28 mark is where this brief talk with the Judge begins. Even though Judge Franklin (Bob Shields) faithfully makes his decisions based on the laws of his state, some of which resulted in criminal prosecution, he was compassionate, caring, and was a very smart man. It was sad but nice to hear him talk with that father about his son who had just passed on, and this Judge offered sympathy, comfort, and counseling. This is one of my favorite court shows on television. I would have liked to have had Bob Shields as a friend. I wish I could be as good of a person at offering advice and sympathy when someone needs it most.

@wadessirenvideos6750 I totally agree! I have always had a great deal of respect for Judge Franklin. I grew up watching this show, and he has always been one of my role models. His integrity and compassion for others are immeasurable. He offers valuable words of wisdom-better than the advice given in some real life courtrooms. Sure, I know that the whole show is just a courtroom drama with actors, but I have to say that because of Bob Shield, Judge Franklin's character was so identifiable that I could easily picture him as a real person-a person that I would definitely talk to if I had a problem. He would be an excellent judge in real life, and so many judges can learn from this man. I remember one episode where Judge Franklin learned that he was going to be honored as the Man of the Year at a charity auction-an honor well-deserved. What a special man! In another episode, he brought home a young runaway boy for Christmas, and he and his wife gave him dinner and a present from under their Christmas tree. With his gifts, Judge Franklin's courtroom and service to his community made Christmas an everyday occurrence, which is why so many people tuned in to The Judge each day. RIP sir, and thank you for being such an inspiration and a class act. I really miss this show!

Thank you for posting this! I had seen this years ago, probably when it first aired. Years later I looked up the part I remembered and still no dice. I was at the point where I thought maybe I had hallucinated the scene where the kid starts dying on the stand. It blows my mind that not only do I get to see it again, but that the kid is Rodney freaking Eastman, or as I recognize him Joey from Nightmare on Elm Street 3 & 4!

This would never be allowed on regular television today. Parents would be up in arms with these topics today. I was like ten years old watching every episode. No wonder our generation was so much more mature than today's generations. We didn't have helicopter parents monitoring our every move.

I know acting isn't easy but other than the Judge, the acting on this show was just downright horrific. It seems like they're reading lines off cue cards and the actors aren't very good at showing their emotions. Shooting on video didn't help either. I loved this show back in the day as a teenager but now it looks so bad and dated. Ah well, it was an interesting concept.
