OD1+2 are identical on the HJS..the Gainknobs are way more more useable compared to the regular JVM. The EQs react different and the Resonance and Presence too. Way fuller/fatter and less brittle. Just avoid to use the midshift button. Also this Amp handles Overdrives way better. I know you dont care about clean tones but on this one every clean mode stays clean where ever you set the gain knob. The crunch channel on the regular JVM sounds like shit to me...on the HJS the Crunch channel alone is worth buying this Amp. The built in gate is the best built in gate i ever tried...way better then the one on the Invective or all the Engl Amps out there.

The JVM410 C83 mod is the just like the EVH 50 watt el34 mod...remove C83 completely & solder an 1uf or 0.68uf cap parallel to the R97 for the plexi mod... Also you can do the negative feedback mod by replacing R58 with a suitable resistor. JVMForum gives these guidelines on what values to use for what effect: R58 = 47k -- late '60s Plexi R58 = 74k -- early '70s MkII Plexi R58 = 82k -- stock JVM R58 = 137k -- EVH's Plexi R58 = 176k -- JCM800 2203 R58 = 177k+ -- a Marshall with almost a Vox's lack of headroom in the power amp
