I bought one of these new in 1998 and put 97,000 miles on it! Mixture of trackdays and then years of commuting it into central London. By then it was a bit of a shed. The exup valve seized and so was lock-wired open (ruined mid-range), all the fairings were cable tied on as it was crashed several times. It ended when it got stolen in London. With the insurance payout I bought another one the same, only mint. That got stolen 3 weeks later. I loved those bikes.

This is what ive done for a while now. 1998 - 2010 is the time when superbikes where the best. Yes they are technically better and smarter now with electronics etc but those "older" bikes were just pure fun. I call my collection my bedroom wall collection. I need a 998, a 999 and a few others to have the full poster collection 😍😍😍😍

My first 1000cc sports bike chops! 4xv R1 👍 I was 26 (48 now) gearbox can be a bit clunky - although I don’t recall issues from 1st to second. Get a steering damper though, both the 4xv & 5jj like a tank slapper, especially after a wheelie 😊 these dominated the sportsbike era at that time, right up until the k1 1000 came out

I think it is a great idea to buy used bike, upgrade it, make few videos and then sell it. Few suggestions to consider: 1. once you have a bike, make options for people to vote what upgrades to do. This might help to bump up views and comments and maybe even the tickets sales if you put it in a raffle. 2. when upgrading make the videos more like how to manuals, so people can see what is needed to install similar upgrades on their bikes

Cracking idea for a series. I am one of those people you mentioned, low (relatively) income, finance-adverse, so I love seeing bikes which are obtainable outright for people like me. Buying with the intent to sell also means you can maybe explore more genres and types of bikes than you would otherwise buy to keep, which will be great for viewer and yourself alike. Can't wait to see it!

I'm in my 32nd year of riding now, and have sold all my "new" bikes in order to hunt down the bikes I so desperately wanted when I first started. 1998 R1, 2000 RC51, 1999 Hayabusa in gold/silver, K1 GSXR1000, TL1000R, RC8, etc... Love modern bikes, but there's a hole in my heart that can only be filled by the bikes I've always loved.

You will love the R1. I have a all original 98 which I imported from Japan. They still feel like a modern bike & relatively comfy. Gearboxes are a bit clunky, just the way they are. Only niggle I have with mine is the exup servo motor sometimes sticks which shows as the tachometer reading 7000rpm then back to zero periodic. Easy to access with the hinged tank. Looking forward to the videos on it. Greetings from Melbourne AU

Wow! an all stock 4XV for 3500 is such a crazy deal. I've owned a 99 just like this one for 20 years. I've put 55K miles on mine and its been amazing. The 1-2 shift has always been notchy and I heard so many horror stories about the transmission that I was always worried mine would blow up. Never did though. I'm still on the original clutch. I find good oil (my bike hates anything thinner than 15w 40) and keeping the chain extremely well lubed makes all the difference with the shifter. Awesome bike! looking forward to future content.

I’ve still got my 4XV R1 had it for 16 years I don’t ride it as much now as I have another bike but I just can’t bring myself to get rid of it. Clutch cable needs a bit of patience to replace & it had new gearbox internals after munching 2nd gear (probably rider error as it does love a wheelie!?😮) engine wise they’re superb the carbs will probably need a clean up, that bike looks mint tbh, you can’t go wrong with it. 😎👌

Because he's spending his own money. I'd do the same. You start with perfection & work backwards which is how you figure out what it's worth to you. Being very particular & picking up on all the imperfections, no matter how small, also gives you maximum bargaining power when making the deal.

Love these. Was my first ever experience of a superbike. Picture the scene: had been riding around 1yr. Owned a Suzuki 600 Katana (the 'teapot'). 1999 Yamaha were doing a national promotion. I trotted off to Flitwick Yamaha. Took out a red a white one for the day. To say mind warping insanity of a level I'd never even considered was a thing. I went for an overtake that I knew would be OK on the Katana.. gave it a fistful in 2nd or 3rd. Without knowing what I was doing or any skill to to it, I pulled a wheelie past this artic that culminated in soiling my leathers whilst I then let go of the throttle, got an almighty tank slapper, by which time another artic was approaching on the other side. For the love of God I got past. Pulled in at the nearest stop. Giggling in shock and then had to sit down before I thought I'd pass out. I rode my Katana home and thought it was a heavy, slow and didn't turn. Neither did it try to spit me off. I went out and bought a Zx7r a week later 😊

the blue ones were sold a lot more than the original red and white ones . i had a 98 red and white and wished i had locked it away if i knew they were going to go up like they had. just be careful chopsy the originals were very prone to shaking there heads and got alot of guys in trouble if yours has a steering damper fitted no probs but if it doesnt and you hit a shitty road at high speed you can end up with a serious headshake or worse i know a few guys ended up of or highsided them due to that. i learnt my lesson on mine after serious wobble and put a damper on it straight away and it cured it straight away. sold mine for a brand new 1994 R1 which is still an epic bike today owned that for 8 years
@headrace48634 ай бұрын
…didn’t see that coming, Chops. Great bike to let go but I get the logic. The R1 should be a lot of fun, they’re basically sound so shouldn’t fight you too much. Usually exup seized, and rear linkage wears. At that mileage check front bushes & guides as well. Enjoy! 👍👍
