I love how you consistently give us the example of the mechanics when starting from square one and not just show what the end result looks like. Most KZbin trainers are great at explaining what they are looking to accomplish but forget to step back to the VERY VERY beginning (like eating out of the hand). Thanks for your videos!

I run a German shepherd group on Facebook and the #1 question is “Where do I start with training my puppy?” I’ve shared your channel within the group, only because I have 100% faith in your training style and ways of training puppies & dogs. Thank you for all the videos helping us who seem to be “stuck” on where to start. I never would have even thought about engaging with reward being the first step. I have no problem admitting my faults and things I don’t know 😅 your channel is a true blessing and I’m so excited to start over with kelly and do things the right way.

Should the dog have eye contact with you and do the command to get the reward? I believe that is the reason you have the treats by your eyes/ face area. In other words command, dog sits but doesn't make eye contact with you. Maybe because you don't have the treat near your eyes but he still sits. Then still reward? Thanks for the videos they're great!
@AndyKrueger2 жыл бұрын
Pay what you want repeated! Yes, ideally the dog is making eye contact before any release or reward 👍🏻

Awesome video Andy!! I’ve been trying to decide for my recall if I should say “yes” as soon as my dog turns to start coming to me, or if I should mark “yes” once he gets to me and as he’s coming just encourage with a “good boy”

You can mark both separately! Sometimes right when they turn and other times mark when they’re close 👍🏻

Love the engagement. My questions is, when starting out, is it best to work on each individual command at a time instead of working on all commands (Yes! Good! Sit! Climb!…..) My thought is to work on Yes/Good engagement for a couple days, then as that tightens up, move on to the rest of the commands individually. Love the videos, appreciate any feedback
@AndyKrueger2 жыл бұрын
A little of both! Totally depends on the dog. If engagement is a struggle, I’d work Good and Yes exclusively for hundreds of reps. If the engagement is through the roof quickly, you can work on many things at once like I did in this session! 🙌🏻

I have a very anxious malinois when it comes to getting in a vehicle. He wants to get in and then guard the door so I can't get in. I make him wait to get in and that is better, but he gets so anxious when I get in that he wants to growl - have you dealt with that before? I have been working on backup so he moves but he doesn't want to move and wants to be over anxious. He has just turned 1 year old and otherwise very smart and mostly loving 😉

She's not letting go the toy inside her mouth and jumps for the second toy keeping both in mouth😅🤣,from 20 reps if I'm lucky, I get 1 repetition when she'll spit the toy inside mouth for the other one! What can I do to learn her OUT ? Thanks for all your tips🙏🙏🙏

What do you think of using the “break” command instead of “free”? I watch Tom Davis sometimes, and he uses break. To me, I could see break being more for letting the dog act naturally in a situation where they are least likely to do anything wrong, but free could be a more commonly used release command to get them out of a position.
@AndyKrueger Жыл бұрын
The word is certainly personal preference! I have no problem with break, but it is what you make it. The dog will respond according to their training rather than the sound of the actual word 🙏🏼

Thanks! Teach stand from a sit. Push in and under the dogs chin and their back legs will pop up without their front feet moving. Go back to shorter downs with huge jackpots frequently. I always release by throwing a toy behind them. This will keep them in the mindset to be prepared to spring up at any second. Don’t move too fast in the duration of time, once the down is perfect, adding chunks of time is easy 👍🏻

He has taken a liking to me since day 1, so we decided ill be the one to train and work with him. Any tips on that since he is a little older? Our other dogs know some german commands, should i stick with german with him or could i try something different with him? (Wasnt sure if thatd mess up him or the other dogs if he had different commands) they do understand english as is.
