That game 6 against the Rockets 19 point lead, 2 min left in 3rd quarter is going to haunt the Clippers for a long time. I was very critical of Josh Smith through out the year, but he really stepped up during this series.
@infinity13239 жыл бұрын
MrYoumitube I agree, though it is easy for a player in the NBA to step up when their defender isn't doing their job. In saying that, Josh Smith, whom I think is a terrible basketball player, took full advantage of Blake Griffins' ineptitude. Credit to him.

The Clippers lost bc no one besides CP showed up to play. Blake looked lost & uninterested at time, Barnes rather be a thug than a bball player, Crawford & Reddick were chucking shots that weren't falling, No more playoff Austin Rivers magic, and a non existing bench. The worst part of this result is CP3 is going to take a lot of blame for it and be called the guy who can't get past the second round again, when he was the only clipper who showed up for all the games he played in and was great. Crawford did nothing all series... Redick and Barnes were so inconsistent offensively... This team just can't win in the west without a bench. It's not about the Clippers choking it's about them having to overplay their starters til they're exhausted because every time the bench hits the floor they hemorrhage points.

Bollox. It is about players with shitty attitudes. Blake Griffen for example - an all-star dunker power forward, whose rebounding rivals mugsy bougues stats.

munclesonkey and yet if the roster stays anything the same as it was the last 2 seasons (though last year the Clippers ideally had perimeter depth but not important depth for their specific match ups) I would be surprised if Doc Rivers still gets a pass as the GM of the team. Thing is the Clips right now don't have a lot of money to throw for better established quality role players. They should have done what the other contending teams with tight budgets tied to their superstars have in a similar situation and try develop them.

I like how Coach Nick highlighted Redick's play and how his defense diligence on Harden took away from his offense. That said, there is a lot of talk on blowing up the core 3 for the Clippers, when the clear issue is the wing positions. May be a better athletic wing w a jump shot could help them... like a Reggie Bullock or CJ Wilcox... players they already had but never explored or developed.

I really enjoyed the observation on how to defend against Harden's foul-fishing. I recall last year that Wesley Matthews had a lot of success doing the same thing. Coach Nick, what do you think of the Cleveland, Atlanta matchup? I have a hard time imagining the hawks moving to the finals, though I really hope they do.
@t4d0W9 жыл бұрын
Mat Lit Its funny because some fans think James Harden is this amazing offensive player when he shits all over teams who can't defend him. Sure he'll get to the line somewhat but when you teams and players do know how to defend him well, he just resorts to chucking up the ball hoping he gets in rhythm. Or making the bad pass leading t a score for the other team.

@basketballfreak249 жыл бұрын
agree 100%. it was made apparent in the spurs series that the clippers play up or down depending on how aggressive CP3 is. he plays hard and is very smart but he doesn't look to push the ball enough or score enough and hopefully this was his wakeup call. Reddick's defense on Harden was the shocker though. made the MVP candidate look like an average 2 guard. Klay has the blueprint to stop Harden now and GS will move on.

I know the Hawks cannot stop Lebron but they need to be on all cylinders to beat a Cavs team that even when they are sloppy, will fight hard. Not saying the Hawks can't do it offensively but their buckets aren't falling easily, they don't have a player whose a constant threat to make 2 or 3 quick scores to get them back in.

Sydni I don't think the NBA wanted the Spurs to come back to the finals in 2013-2014, but blame that to the best of the West for not trying hard enough to keep em out. I don't know if the NBA also wanted the Spurs to practically dismantle the Heat the way they did in 2014 finals and make the NBA golden boy look like a mere mortal against a bunch of old and young guys running amazingly beautiful basketball. But it happened.
@t4d0W9 жыл бұрын
Sydni I'd lay off the conspiracy theories a bit. 2012 Finals was all Heat and not much on the refs. Scott Brooks is a bad coach and he got outmaneuvered. Regular season results mean absolutely nothing considering extreme changes that can shift momentum for players and teams.
@TheMarkmaysky19 жыл бұрын
Sydni What is up with all the conspiracy theories? I'm just gonna say that you're unhappy Lebron is winning so much. He's a great player, live with it! As for Cavs vs Hawks, I give the Cavs the edge. They have size, they have Lebron, and the Hawks are going through a seriously cold streak. The fact that Washington took them to 6 games without John Wall for half the series is unbelievable to me. If they barely dealt with those guys in 6 painfully tight games, I shudder at what the depleted, injured, but still Lebron-led Cavs will do to them. Also, I think this is going to be a singularly ugly series, a lot of scrapping, and the Cavs will win on heart rather than basketball dominance.

Your analysis sounds more of a critique on failed Clippers execution a less like a favorable analysis of what the Rockets did right. Do you think the Rockets winning was a fluke or an occurrence of the better team not winning?
@t4d0W9 жыл бұрын
Kelly Bond The failure of Clipper execution in tight playoff games has been a thing since Doc coached the team. It was similar to the Clippers/Spurs series in round 1 where ideally the Spurs are the better team overall. But Rivers adjustments got them ahead in situations where the Clippers could get them a game 7and in a favorable close game situation. And its sort of an interesting *what if* as Chris Paul with those double screens did amazing things. But overall it still comes down to executing down the stretch even in a series, whether its inspired by a coach or a player. Even last year with the first round match up the Clippers had against the Warriors. The Clippers not controlling the series without Bogut was hilarious. But the Clippers finally got it together in the end and Mark Jackson for the Warriors became predictable with letting Klay/Steph get stagnant and try take over the game by themselves.

@infinity13239 жыл бұрын
Over the past few seasons, I'm arriving at the conclusion that Doc Rivers is not a very good coach in the playoffs. Absolutely no adjustments were made in the entire series. I'm also starting to think that Tom Thibodeu was the reason for the success of the champion Boston Celtics. He did, after all, coach the defense of that Celtic team and we all know they won with their defense. I think it's time for a coaching change in LA as well as a roster update. They should also resign Jordan, no matter the cost. They should also dump Jamal Crawford. This guy is a genuine idiot when he is on the court. He has the basketball IQ of Dwight Howard, which is slightly higher than that of my right shoe.
