Yes, many people mistake changes in trends with "evolution". In fact there is no "evolution" in general, but some things temporaly getting improved and others getting temporally forgotten or worsened.

Kicking is just a bad idea as an approach to fighting. There are limited circumstances where kicking is the best option (up kicks off your back, low kicking a guy that keeps his guard sky high), it's a bad paradigm to use as a point of orientation; you don't ever want to make it a kicking fight, but you want to be proficient with kicks to take advantage of them where you can. Why? Grappling! In mma, kicks open you up to takedowns; meaning unless that kick ends the fight, the punter is on his back. In muay Thai, if anyone sees you kick like a mule, they're going to click you every round & elbow/knee/throw you from the clinch non-stop; no one is "countering" kicks lol. Stand-up grappling has come to dominate kickboxing.

Once grappling was added to the equation kicking became far more risky of a move for a fighter, very easy to get taken down, so most flashy high kicks were left behind sadly, I love impressive kicking techniques but that’s not always the best option in this current martial arts climate

@@LIONTAMER3D Well. Kamaru Usman, one of the most notable wrestlers in the UFC, got the shit kicked out of him for 5 rounds just a few days ago. There's plenty of very kick-heavy fighters in Muay Thai, and kicks score higher so people utilize them a lot with great success.

Well the problem is this there was alot of undocumented fights but during that time period the majority of the fighters came from Cali, Texas, Georgia, Florida, and the northeast and with only a handful of fighters from Cali led by the GOAT Benny Urquidez took it a step further and fought under international rules remember here in the USA kickboxers made next to nothing and most had a pure karate background and taught karate or has a regular 9-5 if you fought in kickboxing you did it for the love of the sport or just to give it a try

No, it's too brutal, they had karate 1st time in the Olympics and guess what happened, Saudi landed a KO to the face of the Iranian for the finals and they awarded the gold medal to the Iranian, they deemed the Saudis kick was too hard, so basically it was the easiest most embarrassing gold medal ever, getting a gold medal being ko'ed

Kickboxing is a great sport. I have been interested in shotokan karate for many years. I liked the films with Van Damme. The coach often took me to demonstrations, he could sit on the splits between two chairs and make a 360-degree turntable kick. Before karate, I was engaged in hand-to-hand combat full contact, but the school fell apart and that's when I got into karate.I tried kickboxing for a short time, but the technique did not work and I completely switched to karate. today I am 41 years old, I am a basic karate player but not a master and I have not made a career. And now I'm trying kickboxing. I think if I were 20 years old today, I'm sure kickboxing would be no worse than ATO and better than karate.

There's a need for the American kickboxing comeback. No leg kicks, no takedowns. Only mid and high kicks and punches, full contact. That way we'll see entertaining fights with some spectacular kicks. Forget the realism. Street fighting is the ultimate reality. There's no rules and it's effing ugly. Only crazy people like that. We want the arts installed back into martial skills. Pure fun!
