BUILD THIS MAN A STATUE! I´ve tried so much. I doubled the kick track, played around with the lows in the EQ on the sub track, nothing really satisfied me. And here comes Chris and saves the day... or the year... or time :-D thanks dude. This really improves my kick sound much!

This is a classic old trick, thanks for the concise explanation! You can also check the tuning using the new Frequency EQ in Cubase, has a keyboard for checking/finding the desired pitch. The standard EQ also displays the pitch when you click on the FFT.
@mixdownonline6 жыл бұрын
Yep, Frequency as the keyboard feature which is great!

I had kind of improvised this when I realised my beatbox kicks aren't as punchy as I like. I actually took a kick sample, copy the MIDI over and low pass everything over 50 Hz. The frequency chart and the Test Generator would really help a lot, thanks Chris!

Thanks Chris. I have been trying to develop my home brew version of a UBK-1 compressor. I was working through the saturation, compression, and density flavors using mostly Cubase stock plugs but it was still missing something. I think this may be just the trick to add the movement I need. Later i may try to switch in an 1176 and Neve 33609 emulation to get the sound closer. Thank you so much.

Cool stuff Joe, I worked with the UBK-1 compressor before, really like the vibe of this compressor.

Thanks, I learnt so much. I love the sound the generator produced but is there an Cubase instrument that can create the same sound? Then I can change notes throughout a song more easily
@mixdownonline4 жыл бұрын
Not that I think of. You can automate the generator plugin to change frequency that represent your bass note.

Nice technique. I think if I self would invented it, I would thought it was a crazy idea and then forgotten it 😅. Maybe one can mix more frequencies, two or three, for example. I guess too that the advice to use a frequency that is correspondent to the tone of the song has more meaning by electronic music.

Great technique, Chris. Thanks for sharing this. I'm on Cubase Pro 9.0.40. Qs. Are you using 0.0 dB for the Send Level? Do you ever use the Range or Internal Side Chain of the gate in this context? I experimented with both and found I could get more "beater" type punch with some settings. Lastly, I notice you use -12 for the TG Output (default), any reason to use stronger or weaker signals? -12 worked great for me, just wondering? The kick really "owns" the bass with this. Thanks again. :-)

Hi everybody! Someone knows if this technique is used on modern country? Like Kip Moore, Keith Urban, stuff like that. Cause I think of earing something really low when the kick hit on those songs but I'm not sure. I play the same genre but I don't know if using this technique I make a mistake. Maybe someone could listen to one of the songs on Kip Moore's last album and tell me if there's a sub kick sound? Thank you ☺️🙏
