@James there are a lot of reasons. It's used to minimize victims of abuse and hide abuse. It's a big motivator behind most of the world's prejudice. It's probably caused most of the world's violent deaths if I had to guess. Religious institutions are prime stomping grounds for predators and people use the word "god" to make people do abhorrent things-- one might say "well that's not religion, that's abuse" and my follow-up is "well they sleep in the same bed. I'm keeping my family and loved ones out of that bed altogether. I'm pretty sure my family are mentally capable of dealing with their imminent mortality and still being good people"
@Atheism-And-Normative-Ethics2 жыл бұрын
@James if you're ever afraid of "god" for not "believing in the right thing" just know god has been so pulverized and manipulated by man in Christianity alone that there are 45,000 denominations of Christianity globally. @James yes, atheists can be criminals too. That's because psychology. That's what creates all criminals. Not "evil" and whatever other Boogeyman pitched by religion. See, even talking about criminals it's much more practical to talk from an atheists perspective

I worked in a fancy restaurant for nearly 20 years so I can't resist... I have 6 solutions: 1. Same portions, use a bigger plate. 2. If needing to carry 2 plates, use a tray. 3. Sprinkle the chocolate dusting INSIDE the plate only, and not on the rims. 4. Lose the dipping areas on the plate altogether (a crime, I'm sure) and instead include a little side of them in a small bowl or something, basically turning the dipping areas into a dipping side bowl. If you need to serve 2 orders of the dessert (two plates and two side dipping bowls), again, use a tray. 5. Worst case scenario, but it IS a solution... The reverse of Solution #1: Smaller portions of everything. Not ideal for the customer, but would save the wait staff on labor and the restaurant on money. 6. Burn the restaurant down. Love this sketch, one of my favorites!

SCTV was pretty good too at it's best, they had sketches though that were a bit weaker and KITH and Mr. Show and such never really had that, every sketch was just genius...at it's absolute best though SCTV was up there too...oddly, in general I hate sketch comedy too, it takes something truly unique in that genre to pique my interest like these guys

For instance, once you've worked in a restaurant or food service of any kind, this takes on satirical overtones you might not have felt before. This is moden life. Stuff that most people don't give a crap about that is taken way too seriously. Should we have more dipping areas? I find that this happens on Thursdays more than anyday of the week. Blah blah. That's the meaning I get out of it. It's not necessarily the intent of the skit but it seems existential and applicable to many work settings. Especially the 'new' guy's solution to the plate handling. I think he was trying to branch out from his usual role as Gay Waiter. Gay Chef.

Had to come back to this after seeing the follow-up in the new season. Even if this wasn't funny otherwise, the whole thing would be worth it just for the shot of Kevin's face reveal at 2:22.

My university offers courses in dipping areas, but we still haven't Ascertained where to put the thumbs

30 years and still no followup. How did they solve the problem of the dipping areas???

When out dining I always know they are talking about the dipping areas when I have to wait for my food.

Imagine getting really stoned with a bunch of guys you love creating and working with. That’s how skits like this become a growing idea that develops into a really funny and well detailed joke. Comedy like this doesn’t happen anymore.

They were SO nuanced in every single way! Nothing has ever been like them and never will be again. Even their own recent stuff hasn't come close to this period (not knocking it though, still heads and tails better than anything else.)

I like the ending where theyre laughing and the guy with the cigarette is just sitting there staring at them.
