LYRICS:
I tried going against my own soul’s warning
But in the end, something just didn’t feel right
Oh I tried diving even though the sky was storming
And I just wanted to get back to where you are
If you could see through the banner of the sun
Into eternity’s eyes
Like a vision reaching down to you
Would you turn away?
What if it knew you by your name?
What kind of words would cut
Through the clutter of the whirlwinds of these days?
I tried going against my own soul’s warning
But in the end, something just didn’t feel right
Oh I tried diving, even though the sky was storming
Thunderheads were forming
But man I thought I could fly
And when I hit the ground
It made a messed up sound
And it kept on rattling through my days
And cutting up my nights
Like a goddamned knife
And it got me thinking, no matter how far
I just wanted to get back to where you are
I tried going against my own soul’s warning
But in the end, something just didn’t feel right
Oh I tried running from the memory and the mourning
But the penalty kept on pouring
And now I think I know why
Cause when I hit the ground
It made a messed up sound
And it kept on rattling through my days
And cutting up my nights
Like a goddamned knife
And it got me thinking, no matter how far
I just wanted to get back to where you are

Absolutely brilliant! The song is amazing and my eyes are wet. Who knew that Jeanie Flower's little son Brandon, who would come to Black Mountain Academy with his mom for preschool, wearing perfectly polished nails, applied by his adoring sisters, would grow into this amazing, world famous musician, baring his soul and touching ours! Brandon, so very proud of who that cute little guy has become. Thanks for sharing your inspiration with the world.

@@novadaisy3208 Yes! I knew his mom Jeannie since I was a teenager. She was a young married mom at my church. A few years later she and I both worked together at a preschool/day care. Brandon was probably about 3-4 at the time. He was such a cute little guy. He would often come to school with polished nails courtesy of his older sisters! When the Killers made it, there was Brandon with make-up and nail polish. My first thought was "Of course!" I'm so proud of the man that little guy has become! BTW he looks so much like his beautiful mom.

What I think: Caution is a story about forbidden love, all of his peers and family are against the arrangement and warn him against it but he throws “caution” and pursues his heart’s desires. However he learns that his family was ultimately right and the relationship was a mistake and he tries to leave. However no matter how hard he tries to leave her and stop thinking about her, he can’t because he loves her too much even though it hurts him everytime.

I first heard this song very recently, in a time in my life where I was trying to build a career which took me far away from my loved ones and into situations I didn't like being put into. I thought I had to stick to them for the benefit of building my career. Though I didn't enjoy my job at the time, I thought it would help me get a good position in something I did like later. And you know what? I think I was right, but it was just consuming me. I felt sad and depressed all the time. Everybody told me I looked like hell. I was feeling like down like I hadn't felt in years. It kept getting worse and worse. My soul was warning me and I tried going against it but it just felt absolutely wrong, I felt like shit. When I heard this song it instantly became a favourite because it made me sure of a decision I was already thinking about taking: there is no point in going against what I really want. Life is short and living through my own personal hell just because of a career or the security of money wasn't worth it. I was going to pursue the dreams I had even if it was harder to build a career in that than in what I was doing previously. But I always enjoyed the challenge as long as I really liked what I was doing. That's what my soul was telling me to do. This song took me out of one of the worst times of my life, and even though I still have a lot of work to do, I will forever listen to this knowing that I have a fire inside my soul that will burn till the end as long as I keep it lit.

The way the song and video tie in to the rest of the album, the Killer's music, and still shows so much growth and evolution ❤❤

tried going against my own soul's warning But in the end, something just didn't feel right Oh I tried diving even though the sky was storming I just wanted to get back to where you are If you could see through the banner of the sun Into eternity's eyes Like a vision reaching down to you Would you turn away? What if it knew you by your name? What kind of words would cut Through the clutter of the whirlwind of these days? I tried going against my own soul's warning And in the end, something just didn't feel right Oh I tried diving, even though the sky was storming Thunderheads were forming But man I thought I could fly And when I hit the ground It made a messed up sound And it kept on rattling through my days And cutting up my nights Like a goddamned knife And it got me thinking, no matter how far That I just wanted to get back to where you are I tried going against my own soul's warning But in the end, something just didn't feel right Oh I tried running from the memory and the mourning But the penalty kept on pouring And now I think I know why 'Cause when I hit the ground It made a messed up sound And it kept on rattling through my days And cutting up my nights Like a goddamned knife And it got me thinking, no matter how far I just wanted to get back to where you are

I think caution is about the man's life and experiences, and him living them with all of the happiness and pain, then my own souls warning is him reflecting on his life experiences and being happy about living a good life.
