This was my dad's favorite song of the Killers. He came to know them much later in life (he was 67) and it was probably the coolest thing to get in his truck and hear him say "You've gotta hear this song!" and it turns out being one of the songs I'd known for years. For at least the past year, right up until his death in February, this was the only song he'd play in his truck. It came to be known as "Track 17" (he had a friend make a compilation for him). He'd play it as loud as possible, restart it as soon as it was over, and- no matter how many times he'd already done it- give the longest and most in-depth analysis of it. It was hilarious and wonderful and one of my favorite things. I'll never listen to the Killers the same way again. I'll always appreciate them in a different way and cherish the joy they brought to my dad in his later years. Thanks guys. Keep writing these beautiful songs. ~ EDIT 2020: So I haven't gotten any notifications for this comment in awhile, and after stopping in to watch the video, I'm just so surprised by all the likes and beautiful comments and love you guys have shared. Some 4.4 thousand people have read this and liked it and I just can't fathom that it's touched so many people. it's mind boggling. Thank you so much for taking a moment to read my story and to comment, and thank you even more to those who hold my father close to you in some way after reading this. Yesterday was five years since we lost him and I didn't realize how badly I needed these comments and the love they exude. It's like a soothing balm to the perpetual ache. I can't wait to share these comments with my family. Thank you all so so much. You have my gratitude forever. Sending you so much love 💙

This video is exactly the story of my marriage and how it ended, even to the details that she was a dancer and left me for someone with more money due to the family he grew up in. The video makes a good point in the end. Don't spend your life waiting around thinking of what might have been. Just forgive the person, let them live their new life and open yourself up to new love. Otherwise you'll find yourself alone. I chose to love again and the world is an open place with all kinds of choices to make.

I discovered the Killers this morning by seeing them on Jimmie Kimmel, singing Caution. I love this band. I am 66, and grew up as a teenager in the great music of the 60's. I've been looking for years to hear really great groups again. FINALLY! I love Brandon Flowers' singing. The lyrics are really good, too, just like the songs in the 60's. There are sweet spots in his singing that are so pleasing. They're so right. I can't go over it. I'm in love with this music!

@34BigPete4 жыл бұрын
This song actually connects with Mr. Brightside, The Man and Just Another Girl. The trailer in this song that the old man ends up in is the same one used in "The Man." Which is the beginning of the story. Brandon Flowers is established as being super confident but having a distorted view of reality. He isn't as great of a singer as he believes he is, he gets kicked out of the casino, etc. Both "Miss Atomic Bomb" and "The Man" show that he believes he's against the world. His luck starts to turn around when he falls in love with a ballet dancer. But he believes that she cheats on him "and it's all in my head but she's touching his chest now." to get ahead in her career and he loses her. He tries to get over her but he sees her everywhere he goes and he becomes old and miserable which are in the lyrics to "Just Another Girl." "All of my friends say I should move on. She's just another girl. Don't let her stick it to your heart so much." He fantasies that she ends up dumped by the rich guy and chooses him. She writes him a letter and then they get together and he envisions a future with her. But it turns out that she never wrote a letter and it's just a wasted fantasy. "When You Were Young" "Mr. Brightside" "Miss Atomic Bomb" aren't straight forward romance songs. They're more like cautionary tales of not wasting your life by loving someone that will never love you back.
@thomashong29384 жыл бұрын
No,he doesn’t lose her.He walks away from her,in a fit of delusional insecurity and jealousy. He can’t handle going out with the beautiful ballerina, a girl who is way out of his league. Her letter to him is about her confusion on why he left her on New Year’s Eve. She searched everywhere for him after finding his engagement ring in the street. She ends up going back to the first place where they met in the desert. She doesn’t find him there and she goes back to her car. They never get back together. The video ends with him in his trailer, thinking about what could have been. Warren Fu, who directed this music video, has said in an interview that it was not about infidelity but rather about bad decisions,insecurity and regrets.

This isn't a regular love song, it co relates to Mr. Brightside. What I take away from this is that he's old now and is regretting his decision to leave her at the end of the Mr. Brightside video, it also revealed in the lyric "you're gonna miss me when I'm gone." Then he starts to reminisce about the past. Also Eric Roberts isn't just stealing her "cause he's hot", he represents his negative imagination. He thinks she's cheating on him, but he's just imagining it. Also in this video where she kisses Eric, that also never happened(Mr. Brightside lyric : "it's all in my head...") , she was actually just waiting for him to come, since she immediately comes out afterwards and there is no one behind her. The scene in which Brandon proposes her, is what he wishes what he should've done, while in reality he threw away the ring. Also at 3:20 you hear the opening guitar track of Mr. Brightside. Check your privilege.

I understand this song now. It isn't about being angry or upset that things didn't go the way we wanted them to. It's about appreciating the times that were enjoyed together. This song and the accompanying video show us not to let ourselves waste away waiting for something that can never be. There are magical times that should always be remembered, but they need to be just that - fond memories of the distant past. After everything, I can honestly say I've appreciated the time that we've spent with one another. I've learned so much and I'm happy that I was able to feel the way that I did with her. It's alright now. I'm free and I'm happy. I will learn to love again. I only hope that she finds what she is looking for. She won't find it with me, and that's okay. I did all that I could to save her, but it just isn't my role anymore. Separation is merely a part of life, but we need to stop looking at it as a bad thing when in actuality it is a beautiful thing. We have stories within us that are always a part of us. They are unique to us and no one can ever take your feelings and experiences away. Cherish them and never let them go. These things are what make us human. Learn to move on, but do not forget what taught you how to be human in the first place.

The song is more of a story about a man who lets jealousy and insecurity cloud his judgement to the point where he thinks his lover is cheating on him even though she isnt. and then he just feels deep regret, but eventually resolves it and makes peace with it, despite the occasional pang of bitterness. and then he receives that letter from her and he realizes that he should have proposed to her from the start because she was more perfect for him than he could have imagined. the regret comes back in renewed waves as he realizes the true magnitude of his mistake, but he has grown old enough that he knows he can't let it be what defines his life. he makes peace with his folly, though inevitably wishes he could have a second throw of the dice.

@@camilosuarez9622 she wasn't with him. He was never there. The older man was a figment of his imagination. In Mr. Brightside she is in love with the protagonist, but he's constantly so paranoid about her cheating on him because of her job as a show girl seducing men. But to her, all it is, is a job, but with him it's love. So now in Miss Atomic Blonde, when he goes to propose to her, we see a shot of her dancing alone in her room. But then when he sees a car resembling the older man's from earlier, his imagination kicks in, and when he looks up, he sees the older man appear out from the shadows, dances with her, kisses her, and then looks down through the window at him. But when it cuts back to her perspective, she is still dancing alone, and the older man is no longer standing by the window, as if he had just imagined all of it, and he walks away. Then there's also the animated shot of when he walks away, and he is growing older, and then you see three images. The first is the protagonist's imagination, which is the girl with the older man. The second is the reality of what happened to her after he left, which is that she was depressed and drank herself to tears, and the third is how her life turned out. She married another man, not the older man from the protagonist's imagination, but instead someone else, and they had children. There's also more to it, but I think that's enough to get the idea across.
@aaha976 жыл бұрын
@Brad Neece But in the end the letter disappears... the letter where the girl is inquiring about what happened that night is not there... It may be because he can't accept that he left the love of his life just because something he "imagined" to happen that night... as for the drinking and marrying into another guy, those images come out from "thought clouds"... The guy ran away, never to see her again, he doesn't know what happened to her after that. he imagines that the girl lost her stardom (like most young stars) which made that rich old guy look for another pretty lady (like they do always) leaving her in a drunk (doomed) state but she probably married (according to our guy) to live a very average life. I think the song just tells the story of miscommunication between lovers. Because he never spoke out, he is going to live a life of confusion and uncertainty... maybe if he knew that she cheated for sure, he would have a family just like he imagines for her or with miss atomic bomb if he knew she didn't cheat for sure. He still loves her and also hates her for that night. This is what makes this song, i don't know, sad!!

I feel like Mr Brightside describes jealousy perfectly and Miss Atomic Bomb describes regret perfectly. And a question. Does it scare anyone that a past mistake may have fucked you over in the long run. For me I lost the girl of my absolute dreams. I know that's probably said a lot but she really was, yet I was dumb enough to be so addicted to a medicine and never listen to what she was saying she ended up moving on and found another guy. Now I believe love is wanting happiness for another even if you're not the source of it, so soon she'll be getting married and I'm supporting her entirely. But every once in awhile I just think, "What if I wasn't so stupid?" I know I have to live with the life decision I made then and move on but it does worry me that, what if I never find another woman that perfect. I'm not exactly great at being social, and it was a total fluke I met her (well really she met me cause I thought she was too good for me lol). It worries me sometimes.

Now a few months ago me and this beautiful funny harass girl started seeing each other( And really it was more like she found me cuz after she got my number she started texting me a few days later) but we would hang out and talk every night for hrs.. and just a few weeks ago she suddenly became really busy(literally, she wasn't doing anything wrong at all) and all day I'd try to reach her n my mind would race, but then eventually later those nights she'd call me back and had a rational reason everytime. But my paranoia started causing misunderstandings!! N about a week ago I tripped out on her and just started asking everything that was on my mind, when I should of bit my tounge or been more logical about it. But I explained and she understood and everything was fine after, but then a couple days later she wouldn't respond to me again. like I completely screwed up such a perfect thing going.. all because of my stupid paranoia! Lol like one of those days she was getting a new cat. But anyways sorry for the rant and ramble. I just thought it was crazy how similar our stories were, cuz I stopped being social and hanging out with friends a couple years ago. and now I'm 26. So now everyday I've been thinking if I'll ever get a chance to make things right, or find someone who was so perfect for me again.

The same here mate.I lost my perfect girl,the girl of my dreams for the same reason.She is 4 years more than me.We were just...amazing togheter,perfect sex,perfect sintony and same tastes for all and a wounderfull empathy.After 3 godlike years togheter I failed the school and relations for another year,my life starts to be totally mad,I fall in anxiety for everything,starts to abuse medicine,starts to have suicidal tendeces,being aggressive and start to don't care about her and at the same times being jeolous.After some month she lefts me and 3 weeks later she has found another man and in the same times I was in hospital because I tried to kill my self with 50 pils of Zoloft...I totally fucked up my life with that and now 8 months later I definitly can't go on.I feel so stupid about the choice I've made in my life...and I really can't erase how I treat her in the lasts months of our story,sometimes I sometimes cry for that

it may be hard man but definitely don't ever give up. The thing about humans is that there are a lot of us lol. meaning that there's never just one perfect girl in the world for everyone. The hard part is now you have to find another perfect girl for you, and when you find her you'll have the lessons from your past hardships to guide you on the right path. A little hard to explain in text but hopefully that makes sense :)

+RobotnikPlays It's the end of a four part story. Originally the first three songs on Hot Fuss were supposed to be "Leave The Bourbon on the Shelf," followed by "Jenny was a Friend of Mine," and then "Mr. Brightside." "Leave the Bourbon on the Shelf" didn't make the cut for the album but showed up on Sawdust. The story starts with a breakup, Brandon asks Jennifer to leave him his bourbon if nothing else, she's leaving him for another man. He plans to spend the evening drinking her memory away. In "Jenny was a Friend of Mine" Jenny has gone missing, presumably dead. Brandon is in questioning for her murder, and is fighting for his innocence. "Mr. Brightside" is after he's been wrongly convicted and released from prison "Comin' out of my cage..." He goes to Jenny's apartment and sees her with the other man, she is alive, and she is taking him to bed. As hurt and upset as he is, he attempts to get over what he's been through, and look on the "Bright Side" he has his freedom, he leaves the apartment and moves on with his life. Finally, in "Miss Atomic Bomb" he is wondering where she is now. It's been eight years and he can't help but reminisce about when they first met. Even though she destroyed him, he can't help but remember fondly on what they used to be. He's over it, but he still carries it with him every day. TL;DR: I look into these things way too much. credits goes to BigRigButters on Reddit

I think some others are less obvious, Jilted Lovers and Broken Hearts, A Matter of Time, The Way it Was, Just Another Girl, maybe The Rising Tide. A stretch would be the cover of Romeo and Juliet. +Aaron Marceau I see the video as more a sad heart break story, as much as I hate to say it. The young man (brandon) loses her to a richer, more defined (whatever) bachelor. He imagines a better life with her, sees himself grow older (through the cartoon) In the end, though, he realises the truth. She left him for a man she thought was better than him. All of the scenarios he thought up in the carton continue, but he realises it was just a dream, as they carry on without him.

The letter never came because nothing really happened between the girl and that man... It was Brandon's jealousy that ruined everything. He thought that the girl cheated on him so he left. This song is connected to Mr. Brightside where he sings about jealousy. SHE was the one who waited, not him.

I write to you because I know that at some point you will be here, listening to this that has connected the two of us for years. Time passes, people come in and out of my life, but you, you remain constant. Do you miss me? Surely you think of me when everyone leaves, when you can't help but be alone. I hope that life continues to fill you with beautiful things and that you continue to be surprised by everything beautiful in it. You will always be my Mr. Atomic Bomb.

I know there is one of these on pretty much every killers song, but this is their best song! (In my opinion.) It's the best written, thought out, poetic and most importantly it sounds frigging awesome.

Absolutely the best song from the album and one of the most sophisticated they wrote. They have to perform it more often in their concert, although it requires a huge voice effort!

The way they linked Mr. Brightside and gave us this sad back story is brilliant. Just a masterpiece lying here to be discovered for a few chosen by the universe itself, Lucky you (reading this)

It feels just like a dagger buried deep in your back You run for cover but you can't escape the second attack Your soul was innocent, she kissed him and she painted it black You should have seen your little face That part just gets me thinking
