I actually appreciated the way Leon was indignant in his execution. On one hand he's never experienced a danganronpa execution before so the entire experience is a total horrifying mystery to him On the other hand, his entire deal is that throughout his entire life he'd never successfully expressed his own free will. Even when he tried, it was completely ignored; a trend continued with the way he's confined in the school against his wishes. Him killing the first victim represents the first and only time in his life that he'd ever been allowed to make his own decision, which in a way was also forced upon him because his murder started out as self defense when someone else tried to murder him (it was his decision to take the violence of self defense further though). So we arrive at the actual execution: a collar attaches around his neck and pulls him from his feet toward his doom. He's strapped to a column and painfully beaten to death. More than most other characters in the entire franchise he begs and screams and tries to defy fate, as he has always hoped to and never succeeded. Leon may have been arrogant, and he may have been guilty, but in a way he didn't deserve to be there any more than he'd deserved the rest of his life pushing him to this end. To die fighting was appropriate for Leon.

No offense but, you're overthinking this. Not Leon's characterisation, but rather his execution. It doesn't matter what kind of death Leon deserved. NONE of Class 78, heck, no one in the entire WORLD of Danganronpa deserved to be in the position they put in. To Junko Enoshima, the person who put them in the position they were in, all that matters is their Despair. Leon's death was fitting in that it was carefully selected by Junko to be the kind of death that would bring him the most amount of deapair.

Cool ideas are a dime a dozen, but death games with or without psychopaths as the majority of the cast isn't inherently better for being just that. It's all about how you put together the specifics like the characters, plot, setting/world building, gameplay, and so on. If these elements are neglected, the concept will fail in practice. Basically, your idea is talking the talk, but until it has walked the walk, you'll never know what problems it has that may make it inferior to an already established franchise like Danganronpa. For example, would an entire DR series where people are psychopaths really be that interesting? Sure, it may seem a novel idea right now, but you might find that it does little beyond making characters potentially less likeable and only works well as a one-time shock value (the shock being when the audience finds out that everyone is a psychopath), but after that, what makes it any more entertaining than normal DR? Seeing characters not care or cheer on executions can only work as entertainment once, doing it every trial makes it as boring as everyone crying in fear and sorrow after every execution. Same with any other overly-patterned behavior. One could argue that it adds tension as psychopaths aren't bogged down by empathy making them more prone to killing, but DR is rather formulaic so that wouldn't make it any less predictable timing-wise (and breaking said formula doesn't require psychopathy). Like, I get it, you had an idea you thought would be better because you're a bit sick of the repetitive pattern, but breaking said pattern just to see something different with little care for quality doesn't make it automatically good. It's like a plot twist, there are good plot twists, and but not all plot twists are good.

Makes me want to attempt a similar long description about Leon's victim. Maizono was a horrible person who brought her death on herself by failing to do what Leon was successful at, having the worst of him wih even less success. How she would be missed by them as much as her (in-game) fans and father cared about the real her, at best a cog in an industry considered exploitative with her joining just for attention. How she tried betraying her friends only to drag down others, playing into her kidnappers plan like a damn fiddle. The failed murderer will be remembered as good only for spiting a successful one who'd have taken her place if she got her way.

It's more my head-canon than anything, based on the fact that Hifumi seemed to recall his past friendships with everyone after receiving a hit on the head strong enough to kill him and that one Danganronpa IF story that had Makoto remember after also suffering physical trauma.
