I've owned this 1968 Dodge D100 shortbox pickup for several years. I picked it up as a project and got it back on the road. However, after several years of use and abuse she's seen better days! Let's see if we can't get this thing back up and running! If you're interested in this pickup it's available but I'm pretty proud of it. If you don't like the price, keep your comments to yourself. It's $6500 for this pickup in the as seen condition of this video. As always, thanks for watching!

I don't comment on videos on KZbin, but I finally had to. I am currently deployed and have been binge watching your videos in my free time. I just want to say I really enjoy your videos. I enjoy working on vehicles in my own garage when I'm at home. Watching your videos make me feel like I'm in the garage tinkering with old cars with you. I have also learned a thing or two. You definitely deserve more subscribers then you have. Keep up the awesome videos. Don't change what your doing, I have watched other channels and unfortunately they don't do what they used to anymore.

"That's what happens when you drive a Mopar one time" lol that was great. This seems like a good truck really. Fix a few more things, like the heater and maybe some snow tires on it and this could be a fun daily. I'd like seeing this thing as a recurring project where you fix this or that and make it into a reliable driver.

The yellow paint on the replacement slant six (if it's original) means it is an industrial slant six, like what you'd find in a combine or forklift. You've got yourself a forged crankshaft! Also, they supposedly have valve rotators and roller timing chain with steel gears instead of nylon. The red intake is from a passenger car up to the late 60s (pre-EGR days).

Drove one of these for the Navy back in 1984-85, in Florida, except it was a Power Wagon field ambulance repurposed as an electrical service truck. Had only 14,000 on the odo, a slant six and 4-speed. More than once I pulled the lineman's huge bucket truck out of deep sand, to save his pride from calling motor pool for a tow. An unassuming yet unstoppable beast!

One reason a Slant Six is so tough, the block molds were originally thicker to allow for Aluminum castings, Chrysler decided to go iron instead. They did not change the molds so this resulted in a heavy duty cast iron block.

I believe that to be true. I've always wondered, if they would have cast them in aluminum, would it have been worth making a mirror image version? Some slant to the left and others to the right? The idea being it's not a big jump to an aluminum V12 from there... Of course, they had the hemi, so why bother. Forgive me, my mind wanders sometimes...

@@MortskeRepair Trivia: During initial development, the slant was designed without an oil pump. Keep in mind, this engine went into development when most inline sixes were still "splash" lubricated. Rumour has it that when Chevy's little stovebolt 235 got an oil pump in what... '56? Chrysler decided that their "new" engine would need an oil pump too. It was all about keeping costs at a minimum. No hydraulic valve lifters until 1980!

I remember my Dad had old Internationals (early 50's), then one day in '68, he came home and got me, then we went to the Dodge dealer in our small town. I got to drive our new 68 250 with the 318, 4 speed truck transmission, and overload springs, no a/c.....,no power steering, basic work truck. The color was like a turquoise or something, but soon that summer we also got 2, deuce and a halves, brand new, electric "split shift" 💥💥💥 bam.!. They would end up as tanker trucks for Dad's crop dusting business. Excellent vehicles back then. I loved the old Power Wagons also. 👍🙏

You need one of the spring chokes that go in the intake and work off engine temp. If you had that choke those engines are so easy to start in the dead of winter you don't have to crank it over much at all but that's the choke you need on those engines trust me I have two leaning tower of power one a 67 and another 1979 Super Six with the 2bbl carb and they both start like EFI in the dead of winter even after sitting a week or two.

Funny you mention a mouth guard,.......I was doing an alignment on a 1 ton Chevy van and had to use a "crow's foot" to get to the shim holder nut on the upper control arm. Of course it was rusty and would not budge without "too much pressure". I know it was too much because the crow's foot slipped and rocketted out of it right into my front teeth. Broke one halfway off, just enough so the little nerve could dangle out of it. Unplanned trip to the dentist that day. That was 30 years ago and the repair is still holding up. (On the tooth that is), I hope the van is in a landfill somewhere.

Love that truck. Reminds me of a 1961 d100 I bought back in 1977 from a farmer in Georgia with a poly 318 rapping. Like you we bought an abandoned 1971 Fury 111 and used almost everything into the old pickup, from interior parts steering wheel. front seat, to LA style 318, radiator, etc. Truck had no body rot. After cleanup and driving for a few months, a person approached me and bought the old girl. Made some money and bought another vehicle. That truck also had a 12" hydraulic clutch. That truck did become a screamer after it was finished.

It was on one of them I learned that it really matters which wire is going to which plug. You know if you don't change the O rings on the spark plug tubes often these things become real leakers. The top of the tube where the O ring is seats against is sheat metal any way so you asking a lot for them to stay clean any way. I love the 225 they are as bullet proof as they come.

Back in the day I had a Dart 225 3 on the tree. It wouldn't die. Great car I used it all through college and years beyond until I got broadsidedl Nice job put a clutch in it and some real tires. She will live on for some time. Rich from NJ😀

Watched the entire video and all of the commercials. I like how you work through things and finally figure it out like the rest of us would have to do. I know that those 2 hours of video are countless hours of shop time, editing time, and dedication to just get it done. Stay warm and out of the rhubarb! Working on my GTO and hopefully will have it on the road this spring. Documenting what I'm doing also. Yes, I've went back and a watched a few to see just how something went when I took it apart, it was nice to have that video.
