My favorite version of this song!!! It feels like I am back in the 1550's actually living in that time period. Great song!

Alas, my love, you do me wrong, To cast me off discourteously. And I have loved you so long, Delighting in your company. Greensleeves was all my joy Greensleeves was my delight, Greensleeves was my heart of gold, And who but my lady Greensleeves. I have been ready at your hand, To grant whatever you would crave, I have both wagered life and land, Your love and goodwill for to have. Greensleeves was all my joy Greensleeves was my delight, Greensleeves was my heart of gold, And who but my lady Greensleeves. Well, I will pray to God on high, that thou my constancy may see, And that yet once before I die, Thou wilt vouchsafe to love me. Greensleeves was all my joy Greensleeves was my delight, Greensleeves was my heart of gold, And who but my lady Greensleeves.

Same tune, but centuries apart. A lot of research out there on this. We know it was published in 1580, anonymously, as Greensleeves. Many believe it was a love song written by Henry VIII to woo Anne Boleyn, but Henry died in 1547. 300 years later William Chatterton Dix borrowed the tune and wrote the “What Child is This” lyrics for it, making it the Christmas song we all still hear. To further complicate things there is evidence that this song was actually around long before we knew it as Greensleeves. Obviously one of the greatest hits of all time! 🎶😊

Really beautiful gentlemen! I'm curious, why the lineup position change? Do Pat/Tim and Johnny/Chris switch which parts they sing, or is the change for acoustic reasons? It sounded like Johnny on the lowest bass note @ the end, but I'm not positive
@kingssingersvideos6 жыл бұрын
Laurie Magoon the swap is not voice parts, it’s for practical and acoustic reasons. The four parts standing in the middle sing the repeating pattern as a team, whilst CG and TWW have solo and descant parts which are more easily heard from the ends. Simples!
@crazyflutist08046 жыл бұрын
