My conclusion with the limited info is that there is a reason to be concerned but there’s time for things to improve. Firing a Design Director and Art Director is a clear sign that Sony/Lucasfilm we’re not happy with the current state of the game and overall direction. Delaying the game indefinitely gives them time to course correct and if needed switch studios. I think saying this is being overblown and no cause for concern is very generous, I understand games are difficult to make and there’s always turmoil especially with projects this size, but with a studio who’s taking on there first large scale project having to change directors in core positions is concerning. Passion is great but if you don’t have the ability/vision you will struggle, not saying this is the case just a possibility. Overall I would feel a better if Sabre took the lead on this as they are slightly more proven and have Aspyr as a support studio.

This alleviated my concerns about the game. It seems a lot of Star Wars YT is jumping on this whole "KOTOR is being cancelled" thing and I found it really odd that all of it came from what I understand to be a single article to Bloomberg out of all places. It just felt more like clickbait and stoking fears, especially when the game never had a release date but a release window (where you had a 1 in 365 chance of getting it right or 1 in 12 chance of being in the right ballpark) . Games like Security Breach certainly could have benefitted from more delays. Elder Scrolls VI and BOTW 2 are certainly being delayed more than enough times but that gives me more confidence we will get better games in the end. As long as the remake is good, I am hardly concerned about delays.

As someone who is a huge fan of KotOR, I am not surprised that it was delayed. However, I remain skeptical of Sony and Disney having their hands so deep in the development pot, and until the people at the top change and they both begin making changes in how they run their companies I will continue to remain skeptical regardless of any sort of changes with the team directly working on the project itself. Disney especially knows how to generate buzz, and that's why this whole situation is even happening to begin with.

Aspyr was an odd choice for a development studio. They've only ever ported order hands for re release in other platforms. They've never written or developed their own games or managed any projects anything like this. It doesn't surprise me that the project is in serious trouble. To compound matters, Lucasfilm have mismanaged the Star Wars IP at every turn for the last few years. We don't know what involvement they've had or what conditions they've imposed on the remake. For all we know they may have contributed by imposing unreasonable conditions on Aspyr.

Written July 28, 2022 Actually an article by Engedget said the game will likely get released after on in 2025. This could be interpreted as good since now it’ll become a full specific next generation console game instead of catering to the ps4 as well, which could likely mean more horsepower for nicer graphics, characters models, story elements ect Tbh, I feel like Kotor remake is going to release in 2026-2027 at the latest which is only like 4-5 years from now so not a long time in retrospect, and the ps5 will still be a current console until 2028

"We are looking for a Creative Director to join our Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic: Remake team." this qoute is from their site. Also they are hiring on all positions for Kotor remake. And trough job listings we now know that Kotor remake is using unreal engine probably UE5. 100% Star Wars is right. Game is still in in production.

Saber Interactive is also working on the Remake. They've made the fantastic Witcher 3 port for the Switch, World War Z, Snowrunner, Insurgency Sandstorm and so on.

on the delays are healthy and normal: Duke Nukem 3D :) also, a delay translates pretty much like this: a) there was a plan on how the project would be completed, however there were enough problems in development to derail that plan to the point where a new one is needed; (a good plan will always include some room for unforeseen problems) b) the initial plan was not good enough and did not account for all the problems that popped up so a new one is needed in order to get anywhere it is better to delay by an amount of time that allows the team to make the game properly than to rush it out, but when a delay is *needed*, that casts doubt on the overall planning capabilities of the people in charge and / or the ability of the teams involved to work together productively. had everything been going great, a delay would not have been needed. So no, a delay is not normal, it's the preferable alternative to a rushed and incomplete product.

I'm not worried at all, as long as they are working on the game, they can take as much time as they need. I want this to be a new classic that lives on for years to come.

Im conflicted about this news. Aspyr did some great ports for Kotor 1 & 2 (and a bunch of other games), but they're just that. Ports. From their releases, they don’t appear to have much experience when it comes to building a game from the ground up, which this remake ultimately comes down to (new models, graphics, systems, UI. The stuff that's already taken care of is either from a narrative standpoint and maybe a few other bits and pieces like game direction). Firing these people is either great or terrifying news for the remake. I really, really hope they give it the love it deserves and that this is simply a delay, and it will in fact not be scrapped, because often when it comes to this kind of corporate speak, a delay like this can really be all or nothing. Hopefully there will be news that the developers that they lost have been replaced and development gets back on track. It would be insane not to conintue given that the teaser has close to 5 million views.

My friend I'm glad to hear you're not upset when the news came out about the KOTOR remake being postponed and delayed. I agree with you that it's best that the game developers take their time in making the game instead of it being rushed into production. Hopefully it'll come out next year for the 20th anniversary of KOTOR but as long as your confident that it hasn't been canceled despite what others think

There are no strong male characters in the new lucasfilm so I would expect even less out of revan in the woke kotor.
