Kurtis is the perfect example of how you can be successful and funny and not punch down constantly. All these people crying about how "they can't do comedy anymore because of cancel culture" have literally no excuse. It's proof that when people say that comedy is dead what they mean is "everyone's so mean to me because I can't pick on harmless hobbies or say slurs ;_;"
@GodlessVoice Жыл бұрын
@@No-ue5pi I think Bill Burr is the perfect example. Even when he punches down, he validates that he is a flawed and damaged human to be punching down like that. Dave Chappell is the example of the guy that walked that line too closely. Dave submits that he is a creditably person to punch down, while Bill lets people know he is fucked up to have had the idea in the first place.
@GodlessVoice Жыл бұрын
I also agree with the OP: if your act is not playing the game of trying to float the line of "too far", then no one is gonna accuse you of going to far. Generally speaking, the line between being Bill Burr and Dave Chappell is so close and nuanced, unless you know what you are getting into and are fine with where it falls for you, best to stay away from the minefield.

When they have a guest with a specific editing style, I've noticed that they'll mimic their style for specific parts of the interview. As a Disney adult I approved of Kurtis’ video making fun of us 😂 We know we’re cringe but the Disney magic, nostalgia for better times and escapism hits different. It’s a feeling of perfection and joy all around and you can really appreciate the history, art and imagination within the parks too, it’s so immersive! But yes our childlike excitement is a bit OTT for some people and we make fun of ourselves probably more than anyone else does 😅
@truckerdave8465 Жыл бұрын
That’s the best attitude to have when you’re cringe. I’m super cringe, I just own it. Most of the time anything that’s super fun is cringe so who cares. I didn’t have a huge opinion on Disney adults before I started watching GoodTimeWithScar. He’s a Minecrafter (cringe, I’m a grown ass woman watching Minecraft let’s plays) but he really showed the joy in it all. He’s building a theme park in Minecraft currently and honestly, it’s almost like some Disney Adults have a more pure love of Disney than many kids.
@ChibiChidorii Жыл бұрын
Also it kinda makes sense? I feel like the parks are more family friendly than child friendly. I'm from southamerica and I traveled overseas to go to Disney World when I was 9 and I felt it was such a waste of money because apart from getting pictures with characters I didn't really enjoy a lot of it. I was too old for kiddie rides but too young and scared to get on thrill rides. Now as an adult I really want to go back! choose a better hotel, eat better food, see the new rides, appreciate the history of classic ones. it's like I know a lot more about Disney now as an adult than as a kid.
@FoolishMortalLife Жыл бұрын

One of my friends was also performing, but I didn’t know Kurtis would be there till he went on! It was def a harder crowd bc I think I was the only one who recognized him from KZbin there, but I made sure to give some whoops hollers and laughs. So happy to see you sit down with Kurtis. I’m 100% sure I’m not the only one, but you both have made so many people smile even on their worst days. Kurtis has gotten me through a lot. He always makes me feel better with a laugh - and just watching his videos & reminding myself not to take myself and everything else so seriously. You both bring smiles to countless people’s faces. Keep it up! ❤️🔥

Kurtis Conner gives wholesome Dad in the 80’s vibe and I love it. Like seriously, with everything in the world and on the internet, Kurtis Conner is a breath of fresh air. ❤

This is SO EXCITING!!!!!!! I love Kurtis so much!!!!! Also for a future episode (and if they’re on good terms), I’d just love to see Anthony interview Ian just so we could get a reunion & also to see how much they’ve grown over the years if that makes sense 🥹🥹💕💕

Yeah, I noticed that too! Usually on Anthony's channels it feels more interview styled, but that's all good because obviously that's his channel's genre. This video was different though cause Kurtis was also engaging Anthony in the conversation and asking him questions back which made it feel more cozy and conversational that the normal vibe from this channel. :D

Kurtis’s style and appearance make me feel more secure in everything that I like about myself. I think about how well liked and cool and kind he is whenever I start to feel bad about my style. I grew out my hair like I’ve wanted to for quite a while because I liked the way it looked on him. I keep my little mustache and don’t feel bad about it. I make goofy little jokes and get silly tattoos and quote videos of his regularly. He’s just such a comforting role model for a brand masculinity that isn’t cruel or unattainable or threatened by questioning. As a trans man, seeing public figures like him, (or Anthony Padilla, Jarvis Johnson, Jordan Adika, D’Angelo Wallace, Big Joel, and on and on), makes me feel safer in the world. That’s so valuable in times like these.

I wasn't a massive Smosh fan when I finally got internet, I gotta be honest. HOWEVER, the songs you guys did with I Set My Friends On Fire were some of the best things ever at the time. I couldn't get enough, always wished for more!! You guys turned me onto I Set My Friends On Fire for life, and I'll always be grateful for that.

It still amazes me that you and Ian don't seem to understand just how far YOU have reached with Smosh. You're both so sweet in that way that you find it SURPRISING that Kurtis Conner was a big fan... dude, you're a massive part of what shaped comedy on this platform. You and Ian need to give yourselves way more credit

This was SUCH a good video, you both have this awkward comedy thing going on in this video and it works so well, so awkward that it’s not yk? Favourite interview for sure. Also love that Kurtis can admit not many things have gone bad in his life, most people can’t admit things such as that, the way Kurtis handles himself is amazing and I have so much respect for him especially after this interview!

kurtis is one of my fav youtubers so this came up in my recommended. it took me a second to realise it was anthony interviewing him and I’m floored omg. I remember being so sad about him leaving smosh when I was… 11? and now I’m in college. crazy. feels like it was just a second ago. I really enjoy how his sense of humor has evolved whilst still remaining true to his personality; he’s matured but is still as cool as I remember. smosh was such a huge part of my childhood. this was so nostalgic.
