Talent will always trump technology. That's the message of The La's.
@matthieusix32014 жыл бұрын
pfff nah they were just about making good music. about making a music that meant a lot to em, and their public. the fact of making music with or without tech is not that important cause you can have the same project with making electro music.

It's like the rest of the band are watching Lee Mavers do his thing...fair enough they give a decent backing but these songs are so special anyone could give the backing and they would still sound fantastic...why they never did an MTV special is beyond me?...tell me a better band than this at the time for pure musicianship and songwriting?...and a vocal at the top of its game...raw,real and poetic...Liam and Noel are not in this league...it's sort of become a running joke but I still can't wait for the second album!!:).x.
@Noisehead1018 жыл бұрын
Mavers should have had his name up there with the greats, but really he just never played the industry game and this was the late 80's, early 90's when it was all about shiny pop stars. I'm sure we might have got things like MTV specials or whatever if he had the album he was happy with, he never seemed against fame or money, as long as the music was right, which has to be respected really. Plenty of bands don't care that much as long as they're profiting. It's a shame we never got to hear the music how he wanted it to be heard, but that probably adds to the myth in a way, which is probably part of the appeal too. But yeah, he should have his name along with the elite when it comes to songwriting talents. Someone like Gallagher knows his way around a good melody, and i can't knock that but Mavers was cut from a different cloth completely. Listen to those guitar rhythms alone. Those tumbling acoustic rolls he uses in I.O.U and I bet Noel couldn't even play that Son Of A Gun picking/rhythm on acoustic and sing it at the same time, never mind write it.

I think Elliott Smith's suicide and Lee Mavers dropping off for 20+ years are two of the biggest tragedies in contemporary music. Although they didn't owe anything to the world, their natural ability to connect to people to the core with their music is a huge gift. Robbing the world from these gifts, in any way, is truly tragic. I'm glad Lee is back on some level, just too bad he may have lost some of his youthful vigor. Although, there is no evidence of this on recent performances on youtube. The 2nd album you're referring to has never materialized, even in bootleg trading circles, as far as i'm aware. I'm not sure what you have. But if you are somehow the one person on the planet that got a hold of it you definitely should share it.

hurkamur1 I really don't know much about the history of The La's. Yeah I have a CD called The LA's - The Lost La's 1984 - 1986 - or it might be called Breakloose: Lost La's . I have the tracks ripped as MP3s, but I should be able to dig out the CD easily enough. Breakloose (Live) Open yout heart Sweet35 Trees and Plants Red Deer Stalk Dovecot Dub Night Walk Get Down Over What Do You Do I Did The Painting My Girl Sits lIke A Reindeer Money In Your Talk You Blue Moonlight It's one of my favourite albums. Are these known tracks?

PickerLeech Oh, yeah that was a comp from the late 90s of a few singles and early pre-album recordings. Their only LP was released in 1990 after burning through several producers. It's an awesome record. You should pick it up if you don't already have it. Evidently the band 'disowned" it after it was released. Supposedly there is a nearly finished second album that was never released. He played a few shows in 2011 with Pete Doherty. There were rumours that babyshambles were helping him polish it up for release, but it still hasn't materialized. I feel like, with the new mbv record, nothing is gonna live up to expectations . I'm sure it'll be good though. I think some live versions of a couple songs came out on a box set a couple years ago.
@hurkamur111 жыл бұрын
hurkamur1 It's too bad they didn't get more worldwide attention. We got "There she goes again" video but I feel like the Boo Radleys and Sixpence none the richer cover versions were more popular. It's weird in the States, not a lot of people know Babyshambles here either. I don't listen to them, but I did buy the first couple Libertines records when they came out. Got to see them live too. Great show.
@PickerLeech11 жыл бұрын
hurkamur1 I'm pretty sure we didn't hear much of The La's in the UK either - only There She Goes Again. Cast got lots of publicity on their first album. Cool to hear about Mavers working with Doherty. The Libertines passed me by a little but I do love Can't Stand Me Now and The Man Who Would Be King. I love The Babyshambles Down In Albion album too. You might like my playlist.
