Years ago, I heard Noel Gallagher say that after he’d had several hits, there were a few songwriters that still intimidated him, they were just so brilliant. The one he picked out for special mention was Lee Mavers. I think he’s our least developed artist. What he left us is all special. I’m sad there was no more, but in truth we were lucky to get even that. He’s a fragile soul. Comes with the territory.

Not only does Oasis copy Lee, but the La's are one of the most influential bands in rock history. Much of Britpop attitude comes from this band. And their one album, along with Nevermind and OK Computer are hands-down the best rock albums of the 1990's.

Oasis...Blur...Nirvana...whoever you wish to name...none of them could write a track as good as this...an emotionally driven, haunting tune, a guitar riff from the heavens, an unmatched vocal and a crescendo to take your breath away. Why did Mavers walk away ?...maybe he realised the whole music game/business was a facade? His talent remains forever undiluted and mysterious...never did he sell out on his looks either. It’s almost like he was embarrassed by fame, like it was some form of unwanted distraction. This guy had the presence/face of anyone before or since yet he didn’t “play” the rock ‘n’ roller either...because he was the music...he was the real deal...never will we see the likes of Mavers again...not in my opinion.x

Lee Mavers is a genìus...Mad maybe but a perfectionist.....even Noeĺ Gallagher said the reason he started Oasis was to finish the Britpop boom that Lee had started!!!!!!!!!.Lee heted the La's album and urged fans not to buy it.......His vision was of a talented but never satisfied songwriting hero....l went to see the La's when l was 16 in 1990 at Manchester's Academy.Lee played There she goes twice that night....cause it was 22nd November 1990 the day Thatcher resigned!!!!! Long live Lee's influence as a songwriter. The La's debut album on go discs was voted No.1 in a vote of fans of the Britpop revolution.....Fucking genius of Mavers.......even though he hated the record......Steve Lillywhite fucked up that album with the mixing!!!!
