The passengers went to the time rift and into the past not to mention time travel to alter it, but it is to where everyone and everything is empty. why? because everyone is in the present because they are part of the present they are following reality and separate from time in a two single lines (line of time & line of reality) where nothing can travel back in time to alter and change the past. so tomorrow (as the Future) becomes today (as the Present) and then it becomes yesterday (as the Past) so today is normal as the present the one they came from before plane takeoff and when today becomes yesterday its frozen time after everyone and everything is leaving today before reality is empty as part of the past to left it remain behind and the only way everyone is moving forward by keeping remain in the present away from the past is by always following tomorrow and then turning tomorrow into today so they can be safe for now and the past is waiting for the Langoliers to eat the past by following behind and turn it into nothing as blank. and finally the people of the present brought their own time with them and inside of the plane is the present and outside of it is the past.

After seeing this again years later, I realized a couple things that make this so good. First, the creep out you get is very similar to twilight zone in its subtlety, its use of quiet and letting the viewer catch on without gore bombardment. Second, there's not much going on through most of the film but the characters are so great that you are absorbed in them and don't notice or need it.

We are both actors and there is much to enjoy, appreciate, and chuckle at in this film. It's entertaining, and comforting - need to think, but not too hard, since grief robs one of some brain cells. I’m always so goddamn impressed with Dean Stockwell’s performance in this film as the mystery writer Bob Jenkins. That should have or could have been a truly awful character, given that he has to repeat ENDLESS amounts of stilted exposition, and it falls on him to literally explain the entire movie around halfway through. He’s mostly an insufferable know-it-all, at least on paper. And yet…. Dean Stockwell as Bob Jenkins is probably the best thing about this miniseries! You can’t help but like him, and you actually *want* to listen to him to talk and explain things. He doesn’t come off as the least bit insufferable, instead I find myself loving every second he’s onscreen. He elevates the entire production. And I can’t stress enough how crazy and illogical all of that is - by all rights his character should drive us all crazy.

I’ve just been reading all the comments - if you want to know whether you might be entertained by this old schlocky bit of wonderful- then go ahead and read the comments. I love this movie for all its faults and 30 years ago basic special not so special but really great anyway, effects and some over acting at times. I loved the story when I read it . I loved the movie when I watched it all those years ago. It was on VHS and the quality was terrible from a vhs rental store. It’s Stephen King. It’s freaky and a bit scary and character driven and some of the acting is marvellous making up for some overacting here and there. The ending is cool. Time slipping Mr King style is so uncool that it’s cool. Really freaky tale that twists and turns and is actually ahead of its time. Enjoy 😂 it’s fab!
