and what is your fuel consumption......in Germ/Switzerland/Italy there are just about 3\ % of all XC70: their consumption is over 5l /100 HIGHER than the D5's.....All of our 3 current XC70 w/ D5244T11 have been tuned, not by Volvo/Heico. Remapping givies us instead of 215 hp 280 hp, and torque is up to 530 Nm ! And, instead of using 12.3 l/100 km for the T6 our D5 are just about at 7 l/100 km on the exactly same route and identical driving profile.

Same. I have the "Classic" 2016 edition T5. It's great. Only issue is they decided to use a leather dashboard on the Classic edition, and the leather starts to bubble and lift out the air vents. Volvo replaced my dash already once, and now the same has happened to the 2nd dash. I'll be going back to Volvo to see if they can replace it yet again.

I have XC90 D5 R Design from late 2008 and when I went to see my mechanic just to change oil he told me - you got yourself the last solid Volvo!! 🤩🥳 and the tank it is! Loving it every ride and no problems what so ever - now aiming also for XC70 as my wife took the XC90 literally for her so will need a new baby for me! Basically regarding Volvos has to be before 2010!!! 🎉

Top notch video. Top notch car. I'm a Volvo V70 P2 owner and I know exactly what you mean by being relaxed and chilled at the wheel. Also great to live in modern times when a car can stop itself from running over a dog. In about 1974 my dad was late home from work - he had run over a dog in the Morris Marina. The dog had a tag with the owners address - he scooped the dog up, took it to the owner - she was naturally upset. My dad got home. He was upset. I was upset. Everyone was upset. Still brings a tear to my eye.

I have an XC70 D5 SE LUX NAV, very happy with it, as for the heated windscreen I first had one in a 1985 Granada Scorpio. Fortunately my brother's prophecy "you won't be able to park it anywhere" was a bit of an exaggeration, though it usually does protrude a bit in supermarket carparks. Fuel economy is not great, mine is averaging 34mpg for normal use, the same as a I was getting with an under-powered 1.5 diesel Qashqai automatic with AWD. The Volvo is generally nicer to drive, and never feels underpowered. FWIW mine has the cream interior and dash, never in a million years would I have ordered a new car like that but I now prefer it to cars with boring black and chrome. It is a relaxing place to be.

Sorry to correct you.. the d4 awd is a inline 5 cyl.. its just a detuned d5 power down to 180/190 bhp. When I upgraded it with polestar it boosts it up to 220bhp d5 territory. You feel the power more on the motorway drives. The engine configuration you’ll see when you check the VIN information about the car.

Yep. First thing I thought, there is no such thing as a VEA D4 AWD in the XC70 (and XC60 too I believe). FWD D4 were the new VEA 4 cylinder engine with 8 speed auto or 6 speed manual. AWD D4 were 5 cylinder 2.4 engine with 6 speed auto or manual. I believe this engine did not has sequential turbo charging like the D5. Hopefully the dealer didn’t mis-inform the guy? Confusing era for engine badging. Prior to introduction of VEA 4 cylinder engines, about 2010? There were 5 cylinder d3 and d4 2.0l units - 136bhp and 163bhp? The d5 was 205ps. There was a 2.4D with 185ps? Nice car though. I hanker for xc70, although got a V70 with 205 d5. Problem is I did really well for toys on the V70, I would need to find an xc70 with same level or above to replace. If trying to find a Euro 6 xc70 - need to find a lot of money (relatively).

Another great review! I got rid of my 2014 (2015 MY) D5 XC70 SE Lux, a couple of months ago after 20 months of ownership. I had the same digital display and also has the driver support package with the radar cruise etc. I must have been unlucky as mine was a dog, costing £4,500 in servicing and repairs during those 20 months and it probably still needed a further £2,500 spending on it (it made running my previous Discovery 4 seem like a bargain!). I’ve previously never owned a car for less 8 years and I’ve always been sorry to see the others go, but even with a £10,000 loss during my ownership I was thrilled to see it go.

the D4 actually is 5 cylinder, just not the top one when it comes to performance. Anyway, XC70 is definitely an amazing machine (i have D5 of model year 2012 with 215 HP and 440 Nm of torque). Too bad, that the piece in video is not in hifghest level of equipment and it lacks many useful and also comfortable features. Such as ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel, all the active safety features (blind spot, city safety, lane assistant), or the Volvo Four-C suspension system... it is anyway a great car. Overall, it is so so sad that there are no more cars like that one being made. The box-like shape of trunk is absolutely super practical compared to today's V90.

This XC and the standard V70 was the last car that volvo made that was in tune with the wants of what volvo customers really wanted, thier decision to stop making estate cars alienated a whole bunch of loyal customers, Even these cars moved volvo's pricing up to near BMW and Mercedes costs. Which was totally unessercery given the requirements of experianced Volvo owners, In my time, I have had 3 240 series, 1 740 series, 1 760 series, and currently a V70, All of these bought new, At the moment My V70 is going well, but normally i would have changed it for a newer model maybe 4 years ago, But alas, Volvo have taken away my upgrade route. These are great cars, that will give you everything you need and give a comfortable and economical ride. My current D4 does 45mpg

Great review. I let my xc70 d5 lux se go last December. It had all the bells and whistles and was, as you say, a car that could be driven all day and still feel relaxed. It was a 14 plate and tbh was starting to show its age even though I’m a bit of a geek when it comes to looking after my cars (I find cleaning my cars therapeutic). The trim was starting to come away from the body in places, some lights started to let in water, the alloys in places started to bubble and for someone who is precious about his car, this was a tad annoying. I also had a sneaking suspicion the auto gearbox was on the verge of giving me trouble. All disappointing as I genuinely loved the car. So, off to Volvo and traded it in for a new xc60 Inscription. I love the new car and in fusion red it gets a lot of looks, but, I suspect it’s never going to be the Volvo of old I.e. it ain’t a Swedish tank! We can only live off our memories of what was and move into the future (or maybe dragged into the future).

the D5 (bi-turbo) D5244T15 (158 kW) and the D5244T22 (162 kW) is the engine to go, esp. if you live in hilly or mountaineous regions.....the price diff btw "your" D4 and the D5 was not large. We have been driving XC70's since 2003, always D5's ....all in all 5 different cars, adding to 1 Mio km's in those 20 years... The D5 engine will make a big difference on highways in Germany, where we cruise around 150-170 km/h.......without dangers.....and the D3/D4 is then really working very hard and consumes rather 3 l/ Diesel more than the 8l/100km at that speed.

My personal choice is between s80 and xc70. It is and always will be v70. It has the space it has the d5 (now remapped) 5 cylinder reliability. I have tried xc70 and it doesn't give me right driving sensation. It is to high and a lot of driving precisions has escaped to be honest when you compare it to v70. @@jasper_north you have a right to have an opinion. But to be objective you should be able to test both sides of the argument. My v70 has a map that is far better than polestar (250bhp and 510N;m of torque). It's suspension is far better for driving sensation due to its lower centre of the mass, and I also have haldex (awd) system. On top of that my friend who is xc70 owner after getting a test drive in my car didn't comment at all. That was sufficient for me to know what his thoughts were. And regarding xc70 and it's offroad abilities... They are OK, but I've seen better. Xc70 is an attempt to compromise between a road and off road. And we know how that works. And please don't forget about one big thing. V70 is a history! When you close your eyes and imagine a Volvo, that's what you get. And estate car. Starting from Volvo 240 (pure classic), through 850 and ending on v70. This is history. Don't you forget about it! Xc is about 18 years old. It doesn't have any Volvo engine in its offer anymore! The Last 5 cylinder engine was installed in 2014. Please rethink your comments.

The last great Volvo's were made between 2002 and 2008, After these years they started to make several engine parts from plastic and jampack the whole car with all kidns of modules, senors and other computer systems.

This year I’m gonna look for a “new” car. I own a Subaru Outback 2008, a car which I really love and that after 320km with good maintenance, works and looks still pretty good! So I was thinking of a XC70 from 2015-2016 AWD, with the T6 engine! Is it a good car? Does it have anything I should deeply check? And what about this old style deals with letters and numbers in the central console?! Thanks!

it's a quite used Volvo so everything should be deeply checked , namely transmission(automatic) and engine.

@@18_rabbit if it is a real used car it depends on the life of the car and the previous owners. What I meant was if the car has parts that needs a special check because have always some issues. At the mean time I’m still driving my old Outback and I’m interested in the new model with the 2.4 Turbo engine as well.

Ford did bring some great technology to Volvo although I appreciate that a lot of people are not happy about that. It's literally a smaller capacity 5-cylinder of 2-litres, producing the same power output per litre as the bigger 2.4 litre D5. the reduction in power is down to its reduced capacity rather than because it's a detuned 2.4 litre engine !

Yes it has a lot of Ford parts especially the under pinning's, rust is also more prevalent on the underside compared to the P2 examples, my 2005 P2 D5 was 18 years old when I sold it, and the underside was totally lacking in any kind of rust, whereas my newer Volvo C70 which also uses Ford under pinning's, has far more rust at 12 years old than my 18 years old P1 Volvo V70.
