In retrospect, it wasn't that improbable. While having part of the movie be set in a casino was no guarantee, the prequel trilogy established that a lot of people in the sleazier parts of the galaxy like to watch and bet on various kinds of races. Some bar patrons on Coruscant in Attack of the Clones were shown watching various kinds of animals race each other on futuristic television screens; it makes sense that casino patrons on Canto Bight might prefer to watch them in person.

You're right, Kylo doesn't kill Leia, he's ordered to kill her by Snoke. But when he doesn't, Snoke has his armada kill her. Kylo watches, the doubt that will be seen in this movie will then turn him back toward the light. It's why he destroys his helmet. It's also why he offers an alliance with Rey. He can't defeat Snoke, but Rey can. Luke lives, but only because Leia dies.
