It's time to let me go
Give up
Give our soul away
Now you will go
Save us once

Where we crawled
The memories are wrong
Save us once

What you thought you want
Trust us now
It's time to let me go
Give up for now
Follow what you want
Trust us, now it's time to let me go

The character development in this show was so beautiful, subtle and tragic too. We saw Loki's own growth and Sylvie's lack of it. Ultimately, I think it's great because Loki put Sylvie in this type of pedestal, she was a sort of "rol model" he was willing to follow, so with what she did, he can see her more as someone he could help, after all he kept saying " *we* made a mistake ". Where she was a guiding light, now he will become one. It will be great because we'll see her able to grow too. I'm really excited about what's to come, really hoping loki will appear in some movie, even as a cameo.

One thing, that is actually an instagram post, that really hit me about this show is one that talks about the the current MCU villains. How Thanos is a god who died as a man, and HWR is a man who lived as a dod. If the current state of the MCU, or MCM now, is anything to go by, as well as those statements, I could the see the next villain being Dr. Doom. A man who lived and died as a god.

Loki was a really mind blowing show and the only complaint I have is that episode 6 didn’t have a post credits scene. Wandavision still has the best post credits scenes since it’s the only ones of the shows so far that we KNOW were they lead. The Monica one foreshadows The Marvels and the other one Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness. I’m still unsure on what The Falcon And The Winter Soldier’s post credits scene leads to. Armor Wars? Secret Invasion? Captain America 4?

I have deferred watching this video for SO long, because I made one on exactly the same topic, and I didn't want to "steal" any of your ideas, or be too influenced... And then I was afraid to watch it in case you had a completely different reading and I realized I had read everything wrong 😄 We didn't have exactly the same reading but I'm SO GLAD to see that you also identified the Sylvie/Loki relationship NOT as a narcissistic relationship, but actually exactly the contrary. I agree 100%, it is Loki's way OUT of his narcissistic tendencies. And it's nice to hear someone else say that, because I've read so many bad takes on this relationship... How it's "Loki falling in love with himself", or even "masturbation", or "inc*est" or whatever. This show was so clever and really deserves better than being grossly misunderstood and over-simplified. I also liked that unlike many Loki fans, who seemed really b*tthurt at the suggestion that he might be a "narcissist", you did acknowledge that part of his character while still showing how he deserves sympathy. I really think it's possible to do both.

Easily the best Marvel series to date. Though I keep thinking of Doctor Who, funnily enough. How this would very much be an origin for a kind of Marvel Doctor that I could get behind. A cosmic wanderer with many faces, running across time and space to atone for his wicked past.... Heck, Marvel published Doctor Who's comics for a while, didn't they? And this arc has sure been better handled than The Timeless Child.

I think that you're into something that we could all get behind.... Or well.... Most of us. Some fanboys/girls were not happy about the lack of character focused trajectory of the show. The show provides a good physical model of free will. The TVA needs to put in a lot of energy and effort to maintain the "official timeline." And the timeline is rather unstable. Any deviations from the official timeline that do not result in branching are left unattended. These minor perturbations can shift the timeline from one state to another. And they can create many versions of Lokis like Lokigator, Sylvie, and Richard Grant. The official timeline is therefore a collection of non-branching states, which can be visualized more like an oscillating string. Free will as we call it exists within the amplitude of oscillating timeline and is bounded within non-branching events.

I'm gonna go ahead and say that I didn't care for the Loki series. It did a few little things that I liked, but on the whole I thought it fell flat. That being said Tom Hiddleston's performance was immaculate and moving, and this video is an excellent example of how good it was and how much he understands the character he is playing. He gave 110% to this performance, and while season 1 wasn't great in my opinion, I will watch season 2 for his performance, and to see if hopefully they can shake the rust off.

okay, i loved the show and the essay helped to change my opinion on some of the issues i had with it but i still have one big problem. i don’t think loki and sylvie should have kissed!!!! it was not supposed to be romantic love!!! through many explanations I’ve heard, I learned how in that moment all sylvie needed was to feel accepted and nurtured because she is effectively young loki when he was insecure and looking for validation. i feel like it’s supposed to be a familiar love that they should feel. they were both insecure i feel like it diminishes sylvies development by taking out the self and and the social. that scene is actually taking away from the show for me. :(( do any of you have a different take on this??
@elly7199
@elly7199 2 жыл бұрын
I agree with you completely. I wish they had not kissed as well because Sylvie is effectively at the child stage of emotional development. Yet, for Loki’s development, it felt right and added to the heart wrenching grief I felt for him at the end. It felt shallow on Sylvie’s end. A tool she used to distract him. Something the old him would have done without a second thought.
@ralucaioanagrigoras1489
@ralucaioanagrigoras1489 2 жыл бұрын
Well...for me it feels right on Loki's end, she was exactly what he needed to love and accept himself, his inner child. As for Sylvie, I believe she also cared about him, but her hatred towards the TVA was stronger than that. I don't believe the kiss was just a tool to get rid of Loki, if you look at her facial expressions during their fight and when Loki tells her: "I just want you to be okay", despite what she says, deep down she does trust Loki and love him, but she can't control this anger; it's sad but she was just not at that stage of development yet, how could she have been, living in apocalypses, obsessing over this one mission. As for the type of love, romantic love accomplished the same development in Loki that strong friendship would; Additionally, romantic love makes you vulnerable in a way platonic relationships don't. For two Lokis to be able to let another person lead them and to share these little moments of vulnerability, caring for each other, ish, idk, I shipped them so hard, but it's fine if it doesn't continue in any way in season 2 or other projects, because at least for Loki, he learned what he needed to learn from that relationship.

Frost Giant may be not the best words to represent the Joten , cause I was reading Neil Gaiman's Norse mythology and it doesn't make sense if the Giants are literally giants. I am guessing that book is close to the original mythology (I have not red the ettas) Cause only some of them are actually huge, most seem to be Aesier/Vanier sized, they are just a 3rd hostile tribe of no- quite-gods? no- gods? anti-gods? I mean marvel has gone all in on the gaint thing...as well as Laufy being Loki's father rather than mother.

I really would like your opinion on why the MCU is making Loki the most interesting character? Is it to replace Tony Stark?

Loki could have left the tesseract in Asgard, let Thanos go there and look through the ruble and fight surtur. Then maybe he and the rest of Asgard would still be alive. That not happening sucks

My question is, do we consider the person in Avengers using a mask or does he truly believe they are below him? On one hand, him wearing a mask of the wanting king and thinking everyone is below him could be a cover for his own insecurity. On the other, it could just be him actually?

Consider the Loki in the show as the same Loki from Avengers, just released of the Asgardian system of beliefs he held so firmly. His viciousness and search for eternal glory is the ethos of their entire culture. He only sought power in order to feel affection. This same Loki, who just suffered his worse defeat, got to see a timelapse of Choice & Consequence. He made a conscious choice not to run from his fate but to stay and embrace it as his new path. This story is him breaking away entirely from his scripted purpose and finding himself literally and metaphysically. And for being the God of Lies, he was being upfront and candid the whole time.

(sorry for the Bad English and gramatical errors, not my language) I think, is a little bit of both. Both, Thor and Loki, share a lot of traits, that came from the way they were raised. Regardless of everything, they were told -at the very beginning of the first movie- how both are rightfull heirs, how one day one will become ruler of them all, in a scale of importance there is Odin, The All Father, Frigga, and them. They are, 2 of the most important beings in the 7 realms, wherever they believe in that or not, they have to. But this led to an extreme, represented in no other than Hela, and Thor in the first movie is in that path, that's why Odin force Humility in Him, before new Mexico, Thor and Co adventures are more about them having fun than them saving others, the hole Jotunheim fiasco is a probe of that. Loki is a lot like that too, but with and added drama, because while Thor is the epitome of an Asgardian, he is the opposite, but he couldn't share this to the world, he has to share this facade of self confidence, that is completely shattered once he new the truth about himself. So, yeah, Avengers 1 Loki is not completely different to pre Thor 1, Thor, with 1 big difference, while Thor was this arrogant prince warrior who had to learn to tone it down, Loki is in a journey of self destruction courtesy of a grieving process. Loki is trying to do what Thor did to be the loved Child, but it backfires What I was saying is, Both T and L, looked down on people, because that's what they learned from Childhood, but that's the key, that's what they learned. So yeah, Avengers Loki is a 50-50, half of that is the "self confidence" mascara that he built for himself, and half his belief system, the one who he grew up with.

It made me wince. I really loved their bonding up until then but that... I dunno. I wish it had worked for me but it was immediate total kneejerk "oh nooo no no :x". I'm curious where that goes later because if that romance is a main lynchpin of the show I'll have some trouble.

and almost committed genocide. but the main difference is that now this Loki regrets it. And he actually gets his punishment, he lost everything himself, he continues to lose. And we see it because the series can get into his head and we can believe what we see. Unfortunately, with real people it is so impossible. This is normal when victims cannot forgive torturers. But if you don't give someone a second chance, does everyone else deserve it?

Am I the only one who didn’t like the show and much? I felt the pairing of Loki and Sylvie was weird as forced. The overacting and dialogue was unfitting in some scenes. I love the “self love” dialogue and hope Loki drops Sylvie by finally learning to love himself. Not constantly coddling some sister, deranged version of himself...

So - I have some problems with the show, but I’m not hung up on the idea that the Loki Sylvie relationship is supposed to be “wrong” because they are brother sister or something like that. 1st of all: They are *not* siblings. They are beings from alternate realities. The only biology they would have in common is from a frost giant father. It’s clear that they do not have the same mother. Meanwhile they are *not* frost giants in appearance either. There is basically nothing to trigger an incest revulsion between the two characters at all. Leaving aside the projecting of a grandstanding ‘morality’ on them, the more important issue is whether the actors have chemistry and - they did. I don’t think they over acted as you imply. I think you’ve decided to object to the story point that the characters are alternate reality versions of themselves - who become attracted as *soul mates* and then disapprove. But really what is is the concept of soul mate - if not an mystical link between two person’s across time and space? Having said that I have some problems with the middle parts of the show in episodes 3 and 4……

A thought the narrative logic of the show broke down, with too many knee slap eye rolling moments. Time pad out of battery. Time pad is now broken. Little girl Sylvie escapes from Renslayer. Mobius figures out Sylvie and Loki need ‘saving’ on Lamentis. How? I don’t buy it. The writing takes a cheap shot at the Infinity Saga by showing all the stones are nothing to the TVA: But, the TVA is nothing but idiot storm troopers basically. There is no scenerio where they would ever be able to take on anyone with an Infinity Stone - based on their unrelenting incompetence - in terms of failure to stop Sylvie. Or figuring out that they are variants. Or….figuring out that their Gods are Disney Animatronics. It’s really Jonathan Majors and Kang who saved this story - in my opinion. I loved the music, acting, directing, FX, and thought the time concepts and free will vs. determinism was handled well. I just hope Michael Waldron - the writer - slows his role a little bit. He’s not as good as James Gunn, or Marcus and McFeely. He needs supervision or he is going to make a mess of Marvel with his too clever by half talkie/talkie scripts.
