I've played the games multiple times. This is the best game adaptation ever put to film. I was emotional during Sarah's death with both versions. Marline is the only actor to play the same character is both the game and show. Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey portrays Joel and Ellie perfectly. Without playing the game, you don't know what you're in for. Hope you are ready!

Well as i can remember the fungus charactiristic is self preservation ang will try to by pass the brain barrier.. if the fungus is on late stage it can control the host and will find an area of perfect temperature to eat its host on the longest time

The "The last of us" games are my favorites of all time and I absolutely loved this first episode. Everyone involved did such a great job. It's so interesting watching someone who hasn't played them and doesn't know the story. Just be prepared for an emotional roller coaster you haven't seen before 😊 Btw, the girl playing Ellie is the same who played little Lady Mormont in GoT.

Holy Hell, this pilot episode of The Last of Us was picture-perfect. I was hooked from scene one where they basically explained the fungus infection/pandemic (also, how crazy is it that it's basically a parallel to what we've slightly been living in the last 3 years?). Also, as someone who finally played the original game during lockdown, I LOVED how damn near accurate everything was. The death of Sarah (f#ck off to the racist trolls who had a problem with Sarah being race-swapped in this episode), albeit familiar, was still just as painful as the game version. Props to Nico Parker and Pedro Pascal for their chemistry and the acting between them. What made the experience even more fulfilling was that my dad, who is a MASSIVE fan of Last of Us 1, loved the episode as well. Fun fact: Last of Us 1 is my dad's all-time favorite video game. He noticed every little detail watching the episode, which made me smile. I'm hooked, and I cannot wait for more. And remember, y'all: *"When you're lost in the darkness, look for the light."*

Hey, Magy! The premiere is scrupulously faithful to the game in every way including story, dialogue, production design, wardrobe, props and characters. A few embellishments like the 1968 prologue, the elderly neighbors, the wandering girl and the FEDRA guard customer actually add context and enhance the drama. Neil Druckmann, who created the game, is producing the show and HBO is obviously letting him influence the production. Craig Mazin, the showrunner, previously produced "Chernobyl". That wasn't a clump of hair in the old lady's mouth but fungal tendrils. As John Hannah's scientist explained, the fungi seeks to propagate so these zombies don't feed on you but instead seek to transmit the spore aggressively. As the cordyceps fungi blooms it erupts out of the central nervous system of the host in several horrific stages ultimately rendering the body into a moldy tableau plastered to the wall. The spores were airborne in the game requiring the use of gas masks in areas of high concentration but the show will be dispensing with that since an airborne contaminant would have afflicted everyone in 20 years except those in hermetically sealed rooms. That's the reason for the vector being fungal tendrils extending from the mouths of the infected in the show. The increased temperature serving as a catalyst was a new explanation provided in the show to reference the issue of climate change. The actress playing Marlene, Merle Dandridge, actually portrayed the same character in the game! The '60's scientist was played by John Hannah known for "Four Weddings and a Funeral", the Brendan Fraser "Mummy" franchise, "Spartacus" and "Agents of SHIELD". Anna Torv, who plays Tess, is best known for "Fringe". Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey are both "Game of Thrones" alums known for Prince Oberyn and Lyanna Mormont, respectively. Pascal is, of course, Din Djarin as well from "The Mandalorian". Uncle Tommy is played by Gabriel Luna who portrayed the Robbie Reyes iteration of Ghost Rider in "Agents of SHIELD". Nico Parker, who stole the show as Sarah, is Thandie Newton's daughter! The video game is one of the most extraordinary journeys you can take that will haunt you forever. The sequel is highly controversial but even darker and deeper than the original!

I remember playing the game back in 2013 for the first time. I played together with a very good friend of mine. After the scene with Sarah we just sat in utter disbelief and we starred in complete silence on the screen for (god knows how many) minutes. And her death hits even harder when you know what events will be triggered due to Joel's loss. The 20 year time jump was genius in the game. For you character Joel 20 years have gone, but for you the player, Sarah's death just happenend a vew seconds ago. So the mourning is still fresh to the player. And when you get to know Joel better during the game, you realize that his loss may be 20 years ago, but it feels as fresh to him like it happenend just seconds ago.

They really did a good job of building Sarah up so you actually felt something when she got killed whereas In the game you formed your attachment by playing as Sarah. There is no cure, but they establish in the first episode that Ellie was not effected by the Fungus. This little boy could have also survived for days without the Fungus taking over his body thus resistant to it. But the soldiers killed him anyway b/c he tested positive (RED).

I was so skeptical about this show. I wasn't sure if they could pull off a proper adaptation that gave us the same emotions/feelings as the games. But they got it. From the setting, to the acting, to the entire vibe of the world. They did the characters and the setting justice. And that entire beginning sequence of them trying to escape town, frame by frame, mimics the game so well. Of course a handful of smaller details were changed, but overall they nailed it. Even pulling the same emotional reaction during Sarah's death. Which btw way, Nico Parker did such an amazing job portraying. Very impressed with the attention to detail and the work that went into this. Hoping this carries throughout the entire season, because this is a story that deserves to be told outside of the games as well. So far so good, though!

I remember going to the game store to pick up the remastered version for the PlayStation 4, and what’s similar from both the game and the first episode of the live action TV series is the twenty year time gap. And what I liked so far is that the show is staying faithful to the material source from the game, and the camera work. Bella Ramsey definitely has embraced Ellie’s personality. And the good thing that came out from it is Merle Dandridge returning as Marlene from the game, Anna Torv as a good pick for the role of Tess, and Pedro Pascal being an excellent pick for the role of Joel. And Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson, and Jeffrey Pierce, who originally played Joel, Ellie, and Tommy in the games, will be starring in the series later in the upcoming episodes, but as different characters.

Did you ever watch GAME OF THRONES. Besides being THE MANDALORIAN, Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey both appeared in G.O.T., though their characters never meet. Bella was 14(?) but playing 10 year old Lyanna Mormont who was the last of her family and therefore the Lady of her castle and territory. Despite her age, she was a tough, outspoken, bad ass who was not afraid to tell seasoned warriors to F***off. She quickly became a fan favorite.

I'm very happy that this series is so faithful to the game. I think it's the first time that a video game adaptation lives up to expectations. Usually, video game adaptations tend to be good, decent, mediocre, or bad. but at the moment this is not the case of The last of us. Let's hope it continues like this and that it surprises us

Unless you live in a really small town or get information earlier than almost everyone for most people there will be no escape. Even during the early stage of coronavirus you were able to see how flimsy our system was. It would only take a day or two before fuel ran out and food was gone.

First of all, every movie has their own version of what zombies are. For example, World War Z vs Walking Dead. How do you know you aren’t infected when you just met a stranger especially when covered in blood? How do they spread the infection? Is the virus only limited to physical contact like bite, scratches or blood? Or is it an airborne virus? No one knows which explains why the soldier is wearing a gas mask to protect himself from any toxic/disease that you may inhale. Chances are that it can incubate in a host without you knowing. You know… delayed reaction & you’re the carrier to spread unto others. There are no vaccines to cure the infection & no detection equipment yet to verify if you’re an infected or not especially during the start of the outbreak when no one knows about it. Why will the soldier shoot civilians without question? For various reasons. In this case, after evaluating the situation. 1. Is the soldier thinking for his safety or for other’s safety? Will you take that chance of leaving them be only to risk spreading to millions? Like save 2 lives only to risk millions. Again, how do you know? Are you a Scientist or Medical Doctor? Not exactly specialized in knowing how they work & certainly not his field of expertise. He said “Sorry” meaning he means it. Why say that after he shot them? Even the tone of his voice is the guilt. Living with that kind of choice is tough. He didn’t ask for this but he made his choice for the greater good aside from just containment orders. 2. Not everyone is truthful. Civilians could be lying just for their own sake & again risk millions of lives. The selfishness of people doing whatever it takes to survive. For example, COVID-19 I heard people avoiding to be detected cuz they know they’re showing symptoms that their positive. Get on a ship or whatever transportation you can find & end up spreading the infection. Coughing, touching, etc. Feel bad knowing that kids end up getting from those kind of people. However, it’s understandable when it comes to your instinct of fear making decisions. Allowing fear to dictate our choices is not always something you realize right away. Imagine you can’t see your family and friends just cuz somebody on board unchecked is on the same boat or airplane with you. Thinking how you got it is sometimes really someone near you that got you into that situation in the first place.

this is an inspired adaptation rather than a direct adaptation. it would be a direct adaptation if they stuck to the source material. still a good show. it's just not a direct adaptation. there were many differences, & many details were left out. some differences were there were no spores, & not the right gore i wanted to see. i was really hoping for spores & gore. i mean ripping to shreds & cannibalism gore. key elements in any zombie story. 😭😭
