11:12 he said “Oh good WE all made it.” And I think that’s a beautiful reaction to the show because he automatically included himself as someone who was okay, which means the show makers made such an effect scene that he felt like he was really in it. I love that.

Man, I knew what was coming and it still got me so bad. This show is so well-acted. Every single person involved is doing a phenomenal job. The themes of grey morality are so interesting in this episode. We've seen a little bit of it throughout the show in Joel's character, but this episode really hammered the point home with Henry and Kathleen. Kathleen was such a complex and interesting character. She embodied themes that were deeply explored in the second game specifically. And the irony of her getting taken down by a kid infected when she had previously expressed such disregard for kid's lives. This show... And the additional heartbreak of Joel saying that it is easier for kids because they have no one depending on them and Ellie feeling so responsible for Sam by the end and losing him. In the game Sam doesn't reveal he is infected. But every single change they've made for the show has been so on point. Even though it just ends up destroying my feelings even more. haha What a fantastic adaptation. Thank you for your reactions!

Ellie and Joel switch sides at the end. That was the Tess moment from episode 2. Ellie runs ahead while Joel is still waiting at the grave. Tess gave Joel a mission he wanted to fulfill as her last wish. The relationship that Joel had with Tess was similar to Ellie and Sam. Ellie promised Sam the cure here and couldn't keep this promise. She now wants to make sure that this never happens again. As Tess said at the time "save who you can save". Ellie really has a mission now. Indirectly get through her feelings of guilt. She wants her blood to work. Before that, she was someone who had no control over anything. Others have determined where she grows up and where she has to go now. Now that has changed. Now conviction plays a role and she takes control. She wants to save the world so that there are no more Sam's. And while Joel gradually finds his humanity again and lets people into his life again, Ellie loses a little more of herself and she takes the lead here in the end. In addition, Ellie and Joel have reached a new level of connection with each other. Wordless understanding. Both wanted to save the brothers during the attack. That wasn't Joel's "don't do it Ellie" look. That was the look "I'll give you fire protection Ellie". And Ellie has absolute confidence in Joel. There was also a little joke about the game. The moment when the sniper shot and Henry and Sam senselessly ran out of cover, only to return immediately. This is how Ellie behaved very often in the game. She was AI-controlled and she liked to do it. She ran out of cover, right in front of the enemy and then back again. 😁

Amazing episode. I knew it was coming, but god damn it killed me. Great review. Fun Facts: Joel collects the comic books in the game for Ellie. Cordyceps is one of the fungi that is composed of chitin; crustaceans and a lot of arthropods also have a lot of chitin in their exoskeleton. As the infected get worse and worse (covered in more and more of the fungus), you can kind of think of it as having more and more armor/exoskeleton. Ellie's belief that she could cure Sam made it so much more painful. I think she genuinely believed that it would work. She is a child, she has been told over and over that she is a cure, she has no understanding about how a cure would be made so it makes sense that she thinks it could be relatively simple... Oh, so sad. She apologized at the grave. When Tess died, Ellie hung around to grieve, while Joel shoved his emotions down grimly and pressed on. This time it was Joel who lingered and Ellie who left. He is becoming more emotional, and she is becoming colder/more traumatized. Also, Joel and Henry mocked "endure and survive." Henry survived but couldn't endure. Both parts are important. Sam also faced the window. Two things: He knew he wouldn't see Ellie, which means he wouldn't attack her. He was protecting her. As he felt himself turn, he knew he wouldn't hear her. If he couldn't see her, he wouldn't know she was there and thus couldn't attack her. Also, it has been confirmed over the years of the game that runners DO have the person in their head. So Sam was in there when he attacked Ellie. Something to think of though -> If Ellie never touched him, if no one ever touched him or got in his vision, he would be sitting there forever watching the sunset. He's deaf, so he wouldn't hear anything. Once he hit the clicker phase, and he could no longer see, then he would be sitting there in darkness and silence forever. If you play the video game, when you get to the sewers area, get every note from Ish. They give a nod to him which I appreciate (the part of the tunnels with the kid's room and the picture on the wall that says, "Our protectors -> Daddy and Ish." It's a fascinating and heartwarming/heartbreaking story).

Damn, you kinds just reopened the wound with the Sam explanation. He was prepared to just sit there forever to keep Ellie safe. It is so sad that he was conscious in there and I can't even image what he was feeling. We're definitely going to be getting a different Ellie the rest of the season because of this. Ayyy KZbin didn't tell me about ur reaction till today. See I told you you were getting some answers in this one. :) Also yes that Big Boi was a bloater! :) in the game they're kinda the same but different (they throw spores at you) since here it was changed for the TV show, here they have the shell they have on the game but they're stronger and bullets don't affect them as we saw... basically impossible to kill. This episode will forever haunt me. The game does too, we spend around 1-2 hrs with them on the game doing a few things I'm not spoiling for you :) but man the way Creig and Neil managed to still compress it in under and hour and STILL managed to wreck your heart out. Ughhh! Bella Ramsey is such an amazing actor. The way Ellie gasped No! Ugh I feel the trauma, the pain. I love the little parallel of loss at the end. On ep 2 Joel just leaves Ellie and he keeps going bc he can't handle the pain. Here Ellie is the one that goes ahead bc she is feeling the loss... It WRECKS ME!!! (when you play the game you'll see a load more of parallels but I don't wanna spoil it for you, so that's all I'm going to say.) TLOU is a beautiful story, as Neil said ep 3 was deffo the happy one... A lot is coming. But it's SO good and so worth it. Can't wait to see you react to the next one!!! Can't wait to see how they're going to transform that bit of the game. Sending hugs your way bc they're deffo needed after each episode!!! ❤️

I mentioned on another video's comments that Kathleen went all Ahab and instead of taking care of her people, she just wanted revenge. And as a result, just like in Moby Dick, her actions probably killed most of her people. Perhaps if she had let them go, she may have created a safe zone from the infected.

This is going to be a TMI moment. I had to pause when Ellie and Sam are looking at the comic book. I had an accident 8 years ago this month. I have a long thin scar on my leg where they had to operate to clear a blocked artery. They didn't know if they were going to have to amputate the leg because it had been losing its warmth by the time I made it to the hospital. I spent 5 months in the hospital, had to learn how to walk again. It took everything out of me to get back up and not just say "f*ck it, I'll stay a cripple". I fought and suffered every day so I would regain a little bit of my mobility. 3 years ago a friend of mine who's a tattoo artist tattooed on my leg the biggest "f*ck you" Karma ever received. I answered one of my all time favorite Game Of Thrones' quote. "There is only one God and his name his Death. And what do we say to Death?" So above the thin scar, I had the words "Not Today" written Underneath the thin scar, I have another favorite quote of mine, taken from the best video game story of all time. "Endure and Survive" I have been waiting for this moment ever since I started watching the show. I'm a cry baby, so you can be damned sure I was crying my eyes out

Same. This was sad and incredibly tragic but something similar has been done in other zombie things so it didn't hurt as much. Bill and Frank's episode came out of nowhere, wasn't expecting that at all. Top 3 most emotional episodes for me for sure!

Bill and Frank got years and years together, by themselves with just their love. Henry and Sam only had the shortest moment of hope which was brutally cut short. Frank and Bill got me emotional but this hit me.

I would have felt bad for Henry and Sam if Henry wasn't a rat a snitch. Because of his action countless people died., the doctor, Kathleen's brother Michael (Henry's role model he bestrayed) and room full of people who helped to hide them.
