I like too, seeing Joel's human side, through the panic attack. We see actions heroes, and even after a while, they didn't even get the flu, after situations as chaotic as Joel's.

Loved this episode, the Indigenous couple at the beginning was the best! The acting throughout was amazing, Pedro is really going for that Emmy. But not just him, all the supporting characters are hitting it out of the park. Also… if I were given a diva cup in an apocalypse, I would be eternally grateful.

The Indigenous couple was funny. The man was played by well-known Canadian actor Graham Greene. I don't recognize the wife though.

Loved seeing Graham Greene (the Indian man) at the beginning. He and his onscreen wife were hilarious - especially her! And how GREAT was Pedro's monologue to his brother about his fears?! He KILLED that scene - both he and Bella have been perfect throughout this show.

I love how this series focuses more on the story and drama than the game play action. I never played the game but it feels that way to me. That may be were other game adaptations have failed.

I just finished the game now after it was released on PC, and i have to say they did a fantastic job. They had easter eggs here and there alluding to the gameplay(things like boosting each other to get over ledges etc.), but otherwise yeah, they just focused on telling the same story with some (very well) done additions here and there.

This series keeps getting better and better! Side note: I always love to admire your ever-changing wall of comics in the background. Today you have displayed a lot of X-Men comics from my teenage years. I remember buying them each and loving them. I put them in bags and backboards. Many many years later, married and temporarily broke, I sold them all. Some of the comics I paid 35 cents for as a kid I was able to sell for $15 to $40 dollars each! Got us back on track. Comics are a worthwhile hobby! 😀 Keep It Nerdy!

Fantastic episode. Like every episode so far. As far as I know, the Divacup was launched in 2003. So it's just in time for the series. Lucky. 😁 The dog here has noticed that something is wrong with Ellie, but he has also noticed that there is no danger from her. Something Fedra's detectors can't detect. They only know black (red) and white (green), just like Fedra is. And of course, Ellie is infected, otherwise the detector would not have shown red. Who knows how many immunes have actually died from such a scanner. Dogs are the better scanners. Maria to Ellie: "Be careful who you put your faith in. The only people who can betray us are the one we trust." Probably the most important sentence of this episode if not of the whole series. Maria knows people and she is no bullshit. Joel to Ellie: "Dream of sheep ranches on the moon." This sentence says so much. Joel already connects Ellie's dreams with his. But he does not see this so clearly at the time and still tries to prevent the inevitable. Ellie drank from Joel's liquor and it was "STILL gross". I think that was a callback to Ellie's flashback DLC. This episode was a feast for everyone who played Part 2. we met Dina (Ellie yelled at her as she dined), properly Jessie (cinema), Shimmer, Bison Bar, sheeps, kids playing snowball, Astronauts, Jackson see from the inside. Simply fantastic. The campfire scene was not in the game, but was originally supposed to be included. So far, only a concept art was left in the bonus material of the game. I think the scene would have been important in the game because it underlines once again that both Marlene and Joel are absolutly sure that it is possible to produce a cure.

I think Joel not teaching Ellie how to hunt stems from his protectiveness of her. He doesn't want her to get hurt. He did teach her how to do a proper watch. Which is akin to teaching Sarah how to manage the house. He's subconsciously already sees Ellie as a daughter. At the beginning of the episode he's parenting her like he parented Sarah. By protecting her innocence. But Ellie tells him she's not Sarah. She doesn't need to be shielded from the world. Hence he started training her how to use a rifle & hunt. Also, I think Joel wouldn't admit at the camp scene, that he does need Ellie to share the burden of survival. Because to him that would be an admission that he couldn't take care of Ellie. Feeding his self doubt that he later reveals to Tommy. But 2 of the instances he's shared with Tommy, Joel had no other option but to stay put. Henry pointed the gun at him. The Jackson people had him surrounded. There was nothing he could of said to prevent them from having the dog sniff Ellie. All his fears are in his mind. Because how he ultimately ends up is being a good guy, helping strangers.

@@phoenixrising8231 Perhaps I should have expressed myself more precisely, because there is a difference between telling how something is done and actually let her do it. Of course, your reasons play into it, but that doesn't rule mine out. It's all part of it, but I also don't want to write essays about what was obviously shown and communicated. Major Spoiler : In the campfire scene, I limited myself to the fact that Joel knows very well that if Marlene says something, it is possible. Many fans always used as an excuse for his actions that it was not at all sure whether a cure would be found. But this was never up for debate, because all parties were firmly convinced that they would get a cure. I was alluding to that.
@phoenixrising8231
@phoenixrising8231 Жыл бұрын
@@TomTomson81 if you read any interviews by the game creator, Neil B, the possible cure was not a sure thing. He goes into describing how the doctor wasn't a real doctor and there wasn't a brain surgeon on hand. Also what the fireflies represent. He said, they're negative just in different ways to Fedra and In the show Kathleen's group. If you go by what he's previously said about Marlene, turning Tommy against him. And what he said when him and Tess confronted her. He wanted nothing to do with her and spoke derisively of her. Calling her Che Guevara. Tess had to convince him to do the job. I think the context of the conversation when Ellie confessed to trying to save Sam. Joel was just trying to impart hope. She was dejected that her effort didn't work. I think he also needs a little hope. That everything he's sacrificing will matter in the end. Neil B. said the Fireflies had no plans on how to distribute the vaccine if the procedure on Ellie would have work. He posit the possibility of them becoming more dangerous and stronger than Fedra if they had the vaccine. Since Marlene was in the pivotal scene. She wasn't just a let freedom ring crusader. I don't want to spoil anything else for those that haven't played the video. Ps. Stop being defensive/offensive. No one can have a simple discussion. I agreed with everything you said. Except the small bit on why Joel doesn't want to teach her how to hunt. Take the A- and a bit gracious. Gesh!
@TomTomson81
@TomTomson81 Жыл бұрын
@@phoenixrising8231ol, your essay. I like to read this from the source and I never heard this. Link please. Furthermore, it does not matter what the Fireflys can and cannot do or what their motivation is. It's not what Joel believes in and that it works was never in doubt for him. I think you're making up these alleged interviews to sell your opinion as fact. And if the authors had wanted it that way, they would have conveyed it in the game through their protagonists. But they didn't. Everyone was 100% convinced that it works. This has been communicated several times. Especially Marlene and Joel. Btw. And just because one character says something about another doesn't mean it's true. Tess has an opinion about another person that is also not a fact.

Thanks, Julia! Thanks, Trent! 🪶 Another solid episode with an effective cliffhanger. I especially loved seeing *Elaine* *Miles* playing a small role; I enjoyed her in over 100 episodes of NORTHERN EXPOSURE (1990). It was just as delightful to see *Rutina* *Wesley* again after enjoying her work in most of TRUE BLOOD (2008), several episodes of HANNIBAL (2015) and a single episode of THE WALKING DEAD (2019). ❧ If you're curious about the movie the townsfolk of Jackson City, Wyoming were watching together, it was THE GOODBYE GIRL (1977) and I highly recommend it if you're ever in the mood for a great comedy/drama/romance! #FandomZone #TheLastOfUs #TLOU #TheLastOfUsHBO

So what Joel was experiencing was a panic attack, that actually has little to do with anxiety, but anxiety can make it worse. The Truth Doctor actually released a reaction of this episode explaining this as well. What an episode, hearing other reviews etc I don't really agree with, love the game but I watch the this show as the something different and I've enjoyed every single episode, it's been amazing.
@Dark__Thoughts
@Dark__Thoughts Жыл бұрын
Anxiety can cause panic attacks too, for example having social anxiety and then getting thrown into places with lots of people. For me it's usually grocery shopping, especially when reaching the checkout. In case of Joel it's obviously caused by his PTSD, because of Ellie growing on him and reminding him of Sarah and what happened to her, which he blames himself for. Him trying to pass her off to Tommy isn't just to protect her, but also to continue to run away from tackling his PTSD and that trauma that he has. But of course, they're both good for each other, like a therapy.

Good episode and reaction guys. The only thing I couldn't figure out was how Ellie got her gun back. Both of their weapons were taken and Joel had to borrow Tommy's rifle. Did Maria give it back to her? Or did she find where it was kept?

Yes, Joel had to borrow the rifle but they both had their handguns at the university, so I guess Maria only kept the longgun because it can be useful for the community.

Unless Tommy managed to get it and give it to her, since he was going to take Ellie originally and brought his own gun. There was no reason to give Joel his gun back yet by that point. Especially if he wasn’t supposed to be leaving and Maria doesn’t trust Joel

Very good breakdown. It is a gorgeously filmed and beautifully acted episode. The only thing I had seen either Pedro Pascal or Bella Ramsey in before this was Game of Thrones and I loved both their characters and their portrayals of them. I am not on team Maria. She kills people too alot according to the native American couple. Nobody ever comes back. Perhaps I have read too much science fiction over the years, or it's because the first thing she did was throw away Ellie's clothes and cut her hair (I have awful childhood memories of never being able to grow my hair long or pick out my own clothes). If you have not already seen it you need to watch the Saturday Night Live spoof that Pedro Pascal did with them of "The Last of Us" while he was hosting last week. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5qsg5-dab2la9k
