"And you weren't going to do it yourself" followed by the prolonged grief stricken stare on Joel's face and the reluctant "Thank you". His daughter's half his age but knows him better than he knows himself. This is such a great textbook example of an Act 1 scene. In 2 minutes we understand their relationship and who Joel is as a character. Sarah is his rock. He wouldn't be where he is without her. They probably depend on each other a lot but I'm betting Joel depends more on Sarah. To take someone like Sarah away from someone like Joel is just lighting the match to a fiery heartache of epic proportions in the last kind of person you want to have it in (Joel).

Sarah would be a fully grown woman in her 30s now like that girl Joel saw in Jackson that from behind looked like Sarah, same hair, but then she turns around and of course it's not Sarah, it's just a Jackson resident playing with her child but that could've been Sarah's life if they hadn't murdered her as a teenager, that scene in episode 6 was heartbreaking and also not in the game, good addition.

@@John_Smith_Dumfugg So far so good, there were changes but the overall story is faithful to Part 1 of the game and some scenes were recreated word for word, some scenes also had the same music (giraffe scene!) and same scenery from game to screen, you can tell Neil Druckmann is heavily involved with the show, even the actors from the game appeared on the show playing different characters (except Merle Dandridge that plays Marlene both in the game and show) all game adaptations should be like this!

They have such amazing chemistry. Even the silly, little things like his mocking face when he sees the box or her shock when the watch might not be working. We only got to watch them together for, like, 10 minutes, but it made you think they had such a loving father-daughter relationship, which just made their ending so much more tragic and devastating.

In the original game, Joel was specifically stated to have been in his "Late 40's". In the Prologue, he was in his late 20's and because Sarah was 12 years old this would mean that Joel became a parent at the age of 16 or 17 which I think is very fitting with his character. Let me Explain. There is no mention of Joel's parents, either they passed away or there was a lack of reliable caregiving in the family, for whatever reason, Joel was propelled into a life of responsibility raising Tommy as well as himself when they were only children. In his teenagehood, Joel wanted to become a singer and grew to become a gifted guitarist. His musical talent attracted the attention of a young girl and the two hit it off. However this resulted in the unexpected pregnancy of Sarah as well as a shotgun marriage. While Joel was able to handle the responsibility of looking after her, his ex-wife probably resented him and felt that Joel had robbed her of her youth and she left the family (probably even with another man), leaving Joel heartbroken and left to raise Sarah by himself. Joel's life was steeped in tragedy even before the outbreak. Having no parents to look after him, forced to raise Tommy when he was just a child, his failed marriage, but the one thing that kept him going was Sarah, his whole world. Joel wasn't a perfect man, but he did his best which I find very admirable about him. I like the idea that Joel was a young parent and even Hannah Hayes, the voice actress of Sarah, described Joel and Sarah's relationship as "more like best friends than father and daughter". Just my opinion.

I see some people down there talkin about what does the color of the actors matter? Look... this is not real life, this is not just some new TV show about something new.... this is supposed to be where there is a video game and they turn it into a TV show to the best that they can trying to make everything in the TV show exactly like the game ..thats what that is ( to my understanding unless it's just inspired by ).....NOT somebody liking a white person better...... at least when I'm talkin about it....that's not it.... I would like for something to be based more along the lines of the event or the game or whatever it's based off of.....there was no real reason for them to make some of the choices they did and I can almost promise you that there was a political bias or racial bias behind it..... I can just about guarantee you because it wouldn't make any kind of sense otherwise. I am pretty sure that they could have found actors and or actresses that could have fit these roles that would have looked more like the characters in the game. I don't believe anyone could truly say to me ( maybe.. I doubt it ) that it would make complete sense for someone to make a TV show based off the life of Barack Obama and have the person that plays Barack Obama to be a 300-pound 5ft white man?...really now think about it?.... it's not the actors that I dislike... it's the fact that the actors in the TV show for the most part look absolutely nothing like the game version....that's all I got to say about it.
