The Last of Us didn’t need a sequel, it needed a prequel... The Last of Us Part 2 should have been a story about living with what you’ve done in the past. Not dying for what you’ve done in the past. As 50 Cent told us. “Dying is easy. Living is hard. It can leave you physically, mentally and emotionally scared.” Young Joel & Tommy from before Outbreak Day to settling down in Jackson, Wyoming. Is what this game should have been about... To the present with Ellie coming to forgive a still alive Joel for not letting her be sacrificed... Imagine getting to play as Sara winning the soccer match. Where she took a picture with her dad? Play as Joel as a smuggler and bandit. Play as Tommy with the Fireflies and in love with Marlene. See how Joel meet Tess. See how Tommy met Maria. This is what #TheLastofUsPart2 should have been!

You just showed how there were so many, much better, ideas that they could have gone with. I've been saying that too. Frankly I cannot believe a grown adult came up with this story. This sounds more like a story that a teenager with 'teen angst' would come up with. I can't believe they green lit this idea for a 100 million dollar game. I used to think more of Sony, but this experience, especially with the illegal copyright strikes and the lies with the advertising, has me thinking that they could be in trouble if they let this "woke" crap permeate their conglomerate.

In brutal world of TLOU (check part one for reference) where people need to kill to survive I get that killing someone due to revenge might take place. With that said - I think that the whole plot is full of holes and it is garbage writing.

TLOU2 is a case of something not being in pre-production long enough with the writer/direction winging decisions all the way until the end. Take Ellie killing Mel and Owen, after the absolute mission it was to get there as Ellie Tommy and Jesse just teleport there to usher her away rapidly after the killings. That's a weird gamey thing right? That to me indicates an "Oh shit" moment where the writers realize during shooting how dumb their script is. They have practically written "and then Abby finds a map next her dead friends that Ellie dropped circling and labeling in big marker where her hideout is". Really its so they didn't have to figure out how Abby finds Ellie so quickly or produce gameplay sections to justify the direction of the story, they really just wanted the theatre fight to happen. The whole game is like this, its a bunch of scenes the writer was dead set on from the beginning and a bunch of filler made to force the characters there. Its not one cohesive vision where all the pieces are necessary to land, its just a load of stuff happening with some pretty visuals that ends up being inconsequential. We are in JJ Abrams territory with this game but the gaming public is so unread Druckmann is being lauded as a genius.

I still didnt feel bad about Mel. She went along on the trip to murder Joel knowing she was pregnant. Even though she shows that she regretted being involved she was involved regardless. She constantly puts her child at risk throughout the game and often times doesnt even tell the father Owen. Then she lunges at Ellie to attack her instead of showing that she’s pregnant and further showing regret for what happened to Joel. Her idiotic actions caused the death of her child

It should've been about joel going on a redemption arc because when ellie eventually finds out about what happened at the hospital, they both het into an argument and joel actually lays his case. They decide to be done with each other. Joel finds her before the WLF does and they both go on the run while being hunted by WLF.

24:00 The difference between MGS2 and The Last of Us 2 is that playing as Raiden was necessary for the plot reveals to work from a storytelling perspective. It was directly connected to the story of the game, and Snake was already aware of what was going on when the Big Shell Incident was happening. Also, the themes presented in the game required a different character so they could be conveyed in the first place. Playing as Abby is so inconsequential and unnecessary since almost everything you do in her section has no bearing on the overall plot of the game, which is Ellie seeking revenge for Joel. Not to mention, more than of half of her campaign is wasted time since you spend so much time looking for medical supplies for Yara just so she gets killed after shooting Isaac. Just felt completely pointless. Not to mention, her relationship with Lev is so forced over the course of 1.5 days while it took Ellie and Joel months to form a familiar bond with each other. Great rant. I hated the story of this game so much... The game has insane production values. But, the plot contrivance, horrible story structure, and character inconsistency really turn this game into a well polished turd.

************ Potential fix for the story of The Last of Us Part II A decent fix would have been, the game can start out in Jackson (the way it did after Joel was murdered), developing Ellie and Dina's relationship when Ellie finds out what Joel did at the Firefly hospital, she gets upset and leaves Jackson only to be captured by the Seraphites. The game switches to Abby, she finds out Owen sympathyzes with some of the Seraphites and wants to go reason with them, only to be captured, after the game switches to Joel. Both Joel and Abby encounter each other and despite knowing who Joel is, Abby begrudgingly agrees to work alongside him to rescue Ellie and Owen. The amount of tension between the two would have been fantastic and they could have had moments where they try and tell each other their point of view about the events of the Firefly hospital (you could use the same Firefly hospital flashback where Abby finds her father killed here), even learning about how there were others, like Ellie who were immune that they experimented on, only to have the operation fail, although Abby is still harboring her need for revenge. After, the game switches back to Ellie and Owen, now imprisoned together and the two of them go over the events of the Firefly hospital and Owen tells Ellie about how, at first, they thought Joel a monster for going on a killing spree to rescue her, but revealing that they found a recording indicating that there were others like Ellie that the operation failed on, Ellie realizes that she could have died for nothing and that Joel, did in fact, save her and she slowly begins to forgive him. And at this point, Owen devises a plan to break free of the Seraphites on their own. Game goes back to Joel and Abby, they are nearing the Seraphite island, but they need to cross a city (you can use the Seattle setting here) overrun with infected after the WLF and Seraphites have been fighting for control for so long, the infected began overwhelming the survivors of both factions. The trust between Joel and Abby gets put to the test because Abby finds herself in a position where she could let Joel die, but make it look an accident, but after their exchanges and realizing that she still needs help to break onto Seraphite island, she helps him (this would make the players harbor sympathy for Abby, even if she still wants to kill him deep down for killing her father). After fighting to the docks and seeing the island, the pair look at each other, nod, and begin heading towards a small rowboat that is somewhat working condition. Flip back to Ellie and Owen, the two are beginning their escape plan, learning their patrol patterns, from the position where they are tied up while also kicking at a sharp stone near the firepit. This is where a small Seraphite girl (Yara) notices them, looks at the sharp rock and back at the prisoners, walks over and puts the rock in Ellie's hands, without saying a word, walks away. Now that Ellie and Owen are free, they agree that they must work together to escape, not knowing Joel and Abby are on their way. The pair run into Lev, who is escaping for the same reasons he had in TLOU 2, and Yara is with him. All four agree to help each other, but must split up two and two to avoid drawing too much attention, Lev goes with Ellie and Yara goes with Owen so the two adults could protect the kids. At the same time, Abby and Joel notice a fleet of boats heading to the island, the pair creep closer and notice WLF uniforms, the invasion Isaac mentioned (to Abby) prior has begun! The pair quietly leave the area and creep through the tall brush with increased speed to reach Ellie and Owen before it is too late. During this section, Abby finds herself pinned down by WLF soldiers who think Abby has betrayed them and Joel comes to her rescue like she did for him prior (Abby loses a bit more of her desire for revenge here). The two run into Owen and Yara who explain that Ellie is escorting a young boy named Lev and they got seperated in the WLF attack. Grateful for Owen's safe return, she tells him to take Yara off the island so her and Joel will go find Ellie and Lev without fear of losing Owen. After a while, Joel and Abby find Ellie pinned down by the fighting of WLF and the Seraphites, but dare not move or risk getting discovered. Ellie sees Joel, her upset has partly gone away at this point thanks to the back and forth between her and Owen, whispers to Lev 'it will be alright, help is here, Lev looks and sees Joel and Abby in the direction Ellie is pointing. Joel and Abby begin quietly picking off stragglers from both sides to increase the odds of getting to Ellie and Lev. At this point, Joel accidently overextends himself and is shot (the player can be playing as Abby here), a huge, muscular Seraphite walks over and finishes Joel, both Abby and Ellie become enraged with revenge. Abby finishes the battle, with some from the shadows help from Ellie. The two women take Joel's body to the area Abby saw WLF dock with their boats so they can take him back to Jackson. Abby looks over at Joel, and thanks him for all he has done to help her rescue Owen, and she forgives him for the Firefly hospital. Flash forward two months, Ellie is living alone with Dina, she is still grieving for Joel, cursing herself for not forgiving Joel when she had the chance, when Tommy comes by with word that some Seraphites have teamed up with a seperate group in California to replenish their numbers to finish off Abby and Ellie for the deaths of their comrades on the island. Ellie, tells Dina she has to leave to protect her and Jackson, Dina wants to come along, but Ellie is too scared to lose someone else close to her, so Ellie makes preperations for the journey when Dina's ex-boyfriend, Jessie, offers to help to make sure Ellie makes it home to Dina, safe. Ellie however, doesn't want to lose anyone else and slips out in the middle of the night. On her journey, she encounters Abby, who also heard the same news of the Seraphites massing their forces, the two women team up. Throughout their journey, Abby explains to Ellie about how she wanted to kill Joel for murdering her father (insert the flashback of Abby finding her father murdered here), Ellie explains how Owen told her of the recording of how the procedure wouldn't have worked on Ellie as there were others immune that died in vain. The two approach what appears to be a fortress (you can use the final resort level here), during the infiltration, the women have quiet back and forths with Ellie trying to lighten the mood with her pun book. In the climatic final battle, Abby and Ellie notice how hellbent the Seraphites were on revenge and how this could destroy their lives if they continue down this very same path and agree to leave the last remnants of the Seraphites alive, mentioning this also to them how their lives will be nothing but revenge if they continue on this path. Abby helps Ellie return to Jackson, Ellie extends an offer to Abby to have her join the Jackson community out of friendship and respect for Joel, the man who brought their newfound friendship together. Ellie returns to Dina (and Jessie who is comforting her), they embrace and kiss. Abby speaks with Maria and Tommy about offering her services in the defense of Jackson, she also apologizes to Tommy for being hellbent on killing Joel for the murder of her father, she mentions how wrong she was and how revenge is never the answer. The game ends with Abby, Ellie (holding Dina) and Jessie overlooking Joel's grave, paying their respects where Ellie forgives Joel, in tears, and apologizes for the events that lead to his death, Dina embraces her tighter to comfort her (queue scene of Joel sitting with his guitar smiling, accepts her apology and forgives her). What do you think? I tried to incorporate the revenge plot in a way that makes sense, while also building up a way to sympathize with Abby and make us care about her, and also driving home the plot point of how revenge will destroy one's life. Using the Seraphites as the primary antagonists, while trying to utilize much of the same environments that were in the game we got, because the world was beautiful in the finished product, it would be a shame not to use it.

Don't forget, in the game we got, revenge is only bad for Ellie, Abby gets away with it scot-free with no repercussions and not once did she ever show any kind of remorse, even when she is about to murder Dina after learning she is pregnant. It is like Abby is turned on by murder and violence and this is the character we are being forced to sympathyze with.

was the first game a lil overrated ? Maybe, but it's definitely a classic and top 10 game for me maybe even top 3 but like you said the characters and their complexities is why I understand why people say it's a masterpiece and Joel for me is top 3 character of all time for in my humble opinion. It may sound ludicrous and I admit I haven't played alot of games in my life and I don't consider myself a hardcore gamer at all. I sway more towards the normy/casual gamer side but the original's story is one of the greatest zombie - apocalypse stories ever told imo.

You know what one of the craziest things was for me to see? Their re-framing of the events in the hospital at the end of the first game - they have that scene between Abby's father and Queen Firefly and it's like they just stole the scene between Joel and Queen Firefly and then transposed it onto these other two people... only this time, they give Queen Firefly the human perspective that JOEL took and give her original perspective (Gotta do what we gotta do) and gave it to Abby's father. It's ludicrous to think that, even if this scene happened AFTER Queen Firefly argued with Joel (which does not seem likely as she leaves and then Joel immediately gets free) it's dumb to think that she even pretended to have a change of heart. Something I always found despicable about Queen Firefly was just how selfishly motivated she was at the end - you get all of those tidbits in notes and tapes and the like, as you progress through the hospital, letting you know that her grip on the group and that her standing within the Fireflies (maybe even her life? It's been a while) was most definitely at stake and she HAD to deliver a win and make good on her responsibility to bring Ellie in and go through with the procedure. I don't really much, if any, hand-wringing and moralizing on her part about killing Ellie (nevermind flat-out murdering her) to do what she had to do for their 'cure' and, more importantly, for the well-being of herself and her position within the Fireflies. I had zero qualms about not only killing every Firefly I came across, but with Joel's decision to kill Queen Firefly in the end, because she was an awful person and a shitty leader and, more than that, she was a god-awful guardian for Ellie that absolutely betrayed Ellie's mother, to whom she promised she'd look after her. People also seem to forget pretty quickly that after drowning, Ellie didn't wake up until leaving the hospital with Joel - they kept her out so they didn't have to deal with any moral quandaries in the first place.

Don't think the doctor marlene scene was after she talked to Joel because in that scene she says she'll tell Joel about the whole thing and the animal friendly doctor just asks "why" That scene was so weird making Marlene contradict herself of what we see in the first game. Good God the more you think about this crap the worst it gets. Even Marlene acts out of character and she's there for like 6 seconds

Exactly and this is one of the most "core" issue with TLOU2; they change narrative of Joel to "I'm evil"; "I'm sad that I killed them"... but he never tells any one what really happens in that hospital scene (because writers want TLOU2 to "work" by changing TLOU1 ending and they using Joel like a moron)... "Yeah.. you keep telling that bullshit to yourself" - Joel to Marlene [in that hospital scene when Marlene's telling Joel that Ellie will possibly die and they don't wanted to wake her up] I always thought that is clear that Joel by telling this to Marlene is telling her that she's delusional by making decisions for Ellie that she would wanted to have operation for a "cure" that is not 100% guaranteed but still Marlene having fears of possibility; if they wake her up and Ellie would say "no" then what Marlene tells already to her pp (that the will have vaccine) will not happen and her army will start revolts and riots so that's why she decided to not wake her up and telling herself that it's ok and also she convinced herself that it was true even though deep down she knew she was "doing evil" (her diary) for a moment but by thinking about her pp and thinking about "living like before" she starting to change the mindset to "yeah this is right to kill her... for all of us")... and then Marlene decided to fuck up even more by telling Joel that "we will doing it like it or not"... and then she telling her firefly guy that "kill him if he cause trouble"... Joel definitely was in mindset "wtf... you want to kill a unconscious girl without her consent" all the time and at this point he knew there was no need to even mention "waking up Ellie" option because of Marlene orders...such a small talk but so important...but hey that's my perspective... so I don't know what Neil and Bruce thinking about this particular scene because for 7 years TLOU1 ending was "open"... but what direction one of the authors (Neil) is telling in TLOU2 is pretty clear that he wanted to have Joel "doomed the word", Joel "is evil" for like 28H (for Abby perspective and drama/trauma for Ellie) of game but then in the same time he give little scene when Joel was talking to Ellie that he "would be done it again" but Joel never tells her what really happen in the hospital scene (even weirder he tells Ellie 2 years before only "but the cure would kill you so I stop them..." with sad face)... and even in beginning of TLOU2 when Joel telling his brother what happen; he's not telling everything but only "magically" he choose "worst" moments of TLOU1 ending that poetry him like a evil guy but he never explain really why he done it and how it looked from start to end... damn... the pacing, story telling, order of the story and dialog in TLOU2 are weird and poor... but hey intentions with this little scene were good but it's pretty weird that 98% of the game Joel is evil; for me this is the most annoying part of the whole game... -sorry for possibility of making mistakes in english :)

Also in regards to the false advertising, it wasn’t just that State of Play trailer with Joel at the end, it’s literally every trailer to come after it too. They even went as far to swap character models on Joel & Ellie in the flashbacks to make them look older; tricking us into thinking they would have more screen-time and Joel would play a big part. They repeatedly stated in press briefing that this would be the continuation of JOEL & ELLIE’s story, yet that was obviously a fucking lie. They capitalized on the popularity of these two characters to sell them, knowing full well they were lying through their teeth. If anything, this is a story about Ellie & Abby where Joel is reduced to a bitch and shoved aside. They completely neglected to show Abby in the marketing despite her being HALF THE GAME. They knew no one would buy this garbage if they knew what happened with that character and Joel. Also I respectfully disagree with TLOU1 being overrated. I think that game deserves all the praise it gets because it is peak storytelling and character development. IMHO, it’s the best piece of narrative that Ike consumed in all of pop culture, but that’s just me though. I loved the first one so much so I am understandably very frustrated with this pathetic excuse for a sequel.

Think about this, if it wasn’t for Joel, Eli wouldn’t make it to the fireflies in 100 years, in first place, he almost died taking her to them, and these people want to kill a little girl they don’t even know for a vaccine they aren’t 100% sure about, maybe humanity deserved the apocalypse, they proved it by attacking Joel and Eli many times during the game, this game was always about Joel, to be honest I don’t even care that much about Eli, and they killed my man Joel like that, bro they smashed his head by a woman, remember the curse of Eva in Genesis was to smash the head of the snake, they are revealing Joel as serpent, and Eli as Eva, they made Eli gay to get rid of Adam figure, where i thought Joel was this father or male or even Adam figure, and how many kids out there are being basically programmed by talents at naughty dog who don’t even get paid right, down with ND and their satanic agenda. First: My English is not the best, but i try. 😅 I played this Game now Months later again after everything is cool down about now. The Gameplay is pretty ok now with the Cheat's. I had even Fun with that and not to search for Ammo every 5 Seconds. The Story is still Trash. I said to myself: Maybe i see it diffrent after all this Months now. No still suck! If somebody want's to buy it: For 29,99 Bucks it is ok because of the Gameplay. But the Story is a Joke. And even after 8 Months i rollt my Eyes sometimes. What is the worst Part now when the Story suck already are the Flashbacks. I had Fun with the Action and gave up on the Story again and some many Times the Game kicks you out of the Action for a pis* poor Pacing Flashback. So even if you wanna ignore the Story, this Game dident let you.🙄

You don't play it for the gameplay, the gameplay is corrupted by the god damn 10H+ hours of being forced to play Abby, i repeat you have to play Abby Half the f game - and they know how identifcation works, they try to force us to in this characer we hate - just forget it - even so when you play Ellie or abby, level design is boring , and the repetition of clear zone 1 > collect , clear zone 2 , collect ressources , clear zone 3 etc x 10 times in a row . nah man. I can't understand why there would be a trans person in this game anyway because the only reason people suffer from gender dysphoria is because of all the hormones they put in the food today. In this future, there wouldn't be corporations putting hormones in the animals and then going into the people and screwing up their minds. Gender dysphoria is not really a choice, it's a hormonal imbalance and hormones decide almost everything we do. This game was very poorly written and I, as well, studied film, TV and radio in college. My aspiration, as a child, was to become a film maker but that hasn't happened yet and now that Hollywood is dead, I guess that may not but you have to sell out to become one of these people anyway and I don't wish to do that but having said that. I can say, with confidence, that this game is poorly written. It's poorly directed. The first game was not perfect by any means but it was leagues ahead of this one in terms of direction. It had many things that made me shake my head too: for example, Tess being able to lift Joel up over obstacles when it should have been the other way around. Many of the story elements were predictable too but it was far better than this heap of dung. Avoid at all costs unless you just want to enjoy the gameplay and even that I found boring. I tried to get into this game but couldn't. Glad I bought it used.

Secondly if you're exposed to something that should be underlying emotions (i.e. swear words) but there is to many of them it looses its impact. Same with shock value and violence. Why would you care that someone shouts "regroup! they killed Kenny!" if you brutally murdered hundreds of people with names and you do not care. They are just an obstacle.

Great game, Good GAMEPLAY, people just didnt get the story they wanted. Joel dies early on and I think alot of people hated that. I knew before the game came out Joel was gonna bite the big one. Naughty Dog tried to make it look like Dina was going to get it. There is going to be a third game for sure.

I think the Last of Us Part 2 is a far better video game. Part 1 was mediocre even back on its release. I don't think it hard to beat Part 1 gameplay. Part 2 it starts off as an open world game where you're mainly just exploring to find weapons and ammo it's the best part of the game and even that's mostly optional. And then when the game actually starts Elile stages are more open and filled with houses to explore you can sneak around people by going through houses but the houses usually have clickers underneath and never have any ammo on high difficulties so you're always going through the most dangerous options to search for ammo. Unfortunately even though the levels are bigger there's only one exit and you still end up getting lost and killing everyone to move on. Abby stages are more classic Last Of Us it's more straightforward but there's more gun fights. Elile more a sneaking gameplay and Abby is more of a fighter. Both can Dodge around like Kung Fu Masters which looks really cool might be a little too good but zombies are still touch of death. The AI is smart on high difficulties they try to flank you if they see you in a corner they throw grenades if your In tall grass your invisible but if they do see you they shoot you on the spot and if you're hiding in one spot they pre aim you. And then Scars communicate by whistling getting shot by an arrow causes bleed out. If you take a hostage they circle around you and shoot you in the back. Taking a hostage is only something to do when you're close to an exit.
