This game has one of the most perfect endings ever to me. It is the epitome of what it is to be human: it's horrible and selfish, but beautifully emotional, loving, and Joel being so broken as a person by this point just hoping for something to hold onto. I get emotional every. Fucking. Time.

TLOU still has an impactful story that has yet to be matched for me; the relationship between Joel & Ellie, the cursory characters you meet along the way, the stories you experience on the road, the hash realism of an apocalypse and the main character becoming a 'villain' but for heartfelt reasons. No other game has given me the same experience; RDR2, GoW, TW3 etc. I hope TLOU2 despite the negativity can continue this story even if I don't like the decisions made by ND

I still think Joel did the right decision at the end, not only because of how he feels as a father but also you can find notes at the end saying how previous attempts on other immune people have failed, I don’t see how this time it would have been different.

Good to see someone's paying attention... 100% agreement... But, even if it could save the human race, I would save her nevertheless...
@captainmercy874 жыл бұрын
True! But ultimately he is robbing Ellie of making that decision for herself. Her whole life was to find a greater purpose so she could do something useful and meaningful for those who left her. He has lost his purpose in the beginning because someone else robbed it from him. So, he finds it by robbing it from someone else, in this case Ellie. So, it is understandable why he does this thing but it does not make it 100% the right one. Especially if you look at how broken Ellie feels at the end. And I think this will be a major characteristic for her in the second game.
@adamyo90034 жыл бұрын
I hate saying this because I can’t find my reference, but I’m pretty sure I heard Colin M say on his Sacred Symbols podcast that Neil Druckman confirmed to him that Ellie was for sure going to be the cure. I’ll see if I can find the quote. But since it’s not confirmed in the game, I think it’s fair-game for people to fill in the blanks with their own conclusions.

The swimming payoff is directly at the end of the game in the tunnel. Since Ellie does not know how to swim, they have to move over the buses which is a more dangerous route which causes Ellie to get into water without knowing how to swim and almost drown and being unconscious at the end. And a few comments about the criticism regarding the mechanics: this game is not Uncharted with zombies. If Joel were to move and jump like Nathan Drake, then he wouldn't need to be terrified of zombies. He would just parkour some wall and get the fuck out. You don't automatically pick up stuff because then you would not be able to see what you are picking up and you wouldn't feel satisfied having found a small piece of rag you were looking for. Every design decision in the game serves the story and your attachment to the character and I wish people would stop nagging over small stuff about game mechanics and look at the whole experience. This is what criticism should be. You don't see movie critics separate camera movement from the story and give individual grades. We are not at point anymore. So move on!! The only thing that does not make sense in the game is the fact that Ellie has a switchblade which does not break. However, Joel, the hardcore survivor has not figured out the use of knives. All the homes he has raided and people he has killed and apparently he has not found any knives to use and has to make this one off shivs!!!

I'm gonna spew some random thoughts abut The Last of Us here before watching and if anyone reads it all I thank you in advance. I recently got the platinum trophy for TLoU and replayed it about 3 times over 5 days. I already adored this game but going back years later and more mature was really a pleasure. I really noticed the smaller things I didn't appreciate before, the story of Ish, reading all the notes you can find, the contextual story telling of so many of the collectibles are just as powerful as the ones written out in notes. My favorite thing I realized was the use of giraffes as symbolism was something I completely missed my first time through, giraffes are constantly used to symbolize innocence and childhood wonder in the game to great effect. There in Sarah's room in the prologue, a small child holding a doll of one early in the game, and even the nursery in the hospital at the end of the game, and everyone knows the famous giraffe scene, really great stuff. Even the way that Ellie walks and keeps her distance to Joel according to how far you are in the story stood out to me, slowly becoming more comfortable and sticking closer to him as they travel together, so many great little details that you can miss while swept up in the initial play-through. Some of it is on the nose sure but that doesn't default it to ineffective. Also I'm a firm believer that the world presented in TLoU has no villains and no heroes
@RajBauer4 жыл бұрын
Exactly you completely nailed it, the world is about surviving people do what they have to. People calling it tropes is dumb because our world with these riots literally shows us that’s exactly what would happen in ours. Legend of Hayden exactly. The shock and awe of everyone is truly astonishing. Literally from the start of the time jump they paint Joel as a violent man who’ll do anything to survive. 1:12:00 i think Ellie knew at some point she had to die in order to get a cure, an that's mentioned later on the scene at the parking with Marlene, she said something like "that's what she would have wanted". What we don't know for sure is whether Ellie woke up before the preparation for surgery or later on the car. I think it's the second option so it would make sense in the second game for Joel tell her about it.
@RajBauer4 жыл бұрын
She does mention on the way to the hospital that she isn’t sure what will happen when they get there. She more likely thought all they needed was her blood. It’s funny though everyone points out the tropes but go back to 2013 and when you first played the game and no way any of us knew what would happen next. One thing I've always wondered is if Ellie did wake up before the surgery and had an entire conversation with Marline and agreed to the surgery. So when she asked Joel what happened she's knows he's lying which is why she gives him one more chance at the end. Her ending response of "okay" is her accepting the fact that he's still lying to her.

An interesting point Troy brought up to Nolan on Retro Replay, did Ellie actually know she would have to die for the cure? It’s kind of implied but never stated, and it feels like that’s something she would’ve brought up to Joel by now that they’ve bonded over the course of the game. Adds another wrinkle and some more weight to Joel’s lies at the end of the game and I’m super interested to see if they touch on that at all in Part 2

Yes let’s compare these two games which are distinctly different 🤦🏽♂️ Literally GoW used a lot of what TLOU did to reinvent itself. Just recently played Alan Wake. That too is a game where you use L1 to sprint.

@34:00 Tim was right. Henry shared a room with Sam and said that he decided to let him sleep in.

Greg's entire problem with Marlene sending Ellie to surgery without talking to her, is exactly why I had no problem with Joel killing her and all of the Fireflies to rescue her. I'm not sure why he finds it unbelievable. Whether Marlene had a relationship with Ellie or not, she had obviously made up her mind that she was going to do this. She set aside whatever emotions she had for Ellie and just decided go through with it, and the fact that Ellie was unconscious only made it easier for her, so she didn't have to either tell Ellie what was going to happen, or lie to her face. This is exactly why I was glad Joel shot her.

Was really looking forward to this, it’s disappointing that it’s over an hour and a half of recalling the story.

Xbox is my main platform. Got a PS4 Pro four months ago. Just beat The Last of US and DLC two weeks ago. Great Story. I really enjoyed this Podcast. Listened to the whole show. Paid for The Last Of US Part II and Ghost of Tsushima Digital Deluxe pre-orders.

I love the gameplay. I find it to be so rewarding and exciting on Grounded difficulty. Makes the game feel much more tense and immersive.

I found Beyond because of the Last of Us Spoilercast. It is not an exaggeration that it changed my life, I do not think I would be where I am as a person or in my career without this community. So what I am saying is... THIS IS MY FUCKING CONTENT! PUMP THIS DIRECTLY INTO MY VEINS LETS GOOOOOOO

The thing the hindered the ending for me is I just never believed they would have to kill Ellie for a cure. Maybe there's more info and a reason why but I didn't know it and it felt like an ass-pull. I do adore this game that aside.

I had that exact issue with the boss battle.. took me at least 10 mins to figure I had to hard reset. 🤷♂️

To speak to having to pick up every single item, I feel like days gone did it perfectly where everything on one shelf or area was picked up at once.

The opening of this game is so painfully sad I had to stop playing for a bit then I picked up up again and it's one of my all time favorite games EVER. Now I play it on PS4 with the HDR support and once again I broke down after seeing the opening of that game again.... Why I keep doing this to myself

The fight with David is a lot like the Mr. Freeze in Batman Arkham City. You have to sneak around him but in Batman you have to use what you've learned about your takedowns in all the until now and use like 3 different takedowns out of the many more that you COULD use. You just try to get David is a loop and much of the elements in the fight are different from the rest of the game.

The same glitch happened to me that happened to Tim on that David fight. It had been so long since I played it last that I forgot what was supposed to happen lol. But for me, the fire didn't build so I was just stuck there for like 15 minutes.

Minute 21:40... Greg, I fucking adore you! I spit my tea and laughed so much that I cried and lost my breath. Thank you so much, in this Ugly times. In Portuguese: És um senhor! But Terry Crews still has the best version of that song!

I wonder if TLOU2 is gonna have those little stories you can find in Uncharted 4 and TLOU because i really enjoyed those. I tried to find as many notes i could in Uncharted 4 because they were really interesting with others trying to find the treasure and also gave more insight about the pirates. And then TLOU had those little stories with Ish and also the "crazy woman" from Pittsburgh.

For the future Tims needs to learn you never ask Greg to recap anything you are basically asking for it. Greg is great but he doesn’t know what a recap is, literally stating the entire game is not a recap. Greg needs to google the word haha

Way to much recap. Spoilercast should imply the viewers know the story

YES. Spoilercasts should be about ANALYSIS not recapping

I'm with Tim in thinking this is a masterclass in gameplay, its intentionally slow and thought provoking. If the gameplay was just gears of war type smoothness it would be terrible. They set out to make every firefight hella intense and it really is like that like no other game I've played.
