Katsumoto and his people were the last Samurai. Algren was there to bear witness to their final days.

That's one thing that I always thought. This movie was about the "last of the samurai."

@@deathninja16 Yep Samurai is plural as well as singular.

Really interesting to see you cover a serious drama. I’m all for this. Your charisma works well regardless of the genre being watched. Eager to see this when I have the time.

I saw this movie in the cinema and bawled like a child more than once. The only thing I always wished they'd done differently though is to have Algren speak to the emperor at the end in Japanese. I guess the emperor spoke English so he spoke English, but I always felt "I will tell you how he lived" would have packed more punch if delivered in Japanese, to show he was fluent and had absorbed the culture and stuff. Excellent film.

Arrows have one advantage over bullets. They can be shot from a cover and do arch, so it is perfect to shoot them from behind the hill. 29:34 Edward Zuko!

I loved your reaction. This is probably my favourite Tom Cruise film and I've been a fan for decades. He rarely misses the mark but this performance was awesome. Ken Watanabe is amazing as Katsumoto. Every cast member was perfect for their role and played it to perfection.

Ghost of Tsushima is not only a great original game, but also a wonderful work of arts praised by Japanese people. It's not too difficult, and you can choose your difficulty, but choose normal. You should play it, you'll be happy you did. I'm very close to redo it all over again after 3 years.

I genuinely think you're the only person I've seen react to this who doesn't know what seppuku is. In that first battle with the Samurai when the Japanese guy cut open his own stomach before they beheaded him, it's a ritual Samurai do. To do a "glorious" or "worthy death", Japanese Samurai and soldiers will cut open their own stomach, sometimes before being beheaded. That's what he was doing in that first battle, as it was said that he used to be Samurai. Same reason that Cruise's character does the finishing blow to Katsumoto in the end. I'm only explaining because you said "why did he do that?!" And like another person has said, Cruise isn't the last Samurai, he just beared witness to the last samurai.
