Set in Japan during the 1870s, The Last Samurai tells the story of Capt. Nathan Algren (Tom Cruise), a respected American military officer hired by the Emperor of Japan to train the country's first army in the art of modern warfare. As the Emperor attempts to eradicate the ancient Imperial Samurai warriors in preparation for more Westernized and trade-friendly government policies, Algren finds himself unexpectedly impressed and influenced by his encounters with the Samurai, which places him at the center of a struggle between two eras and two worlds, with only his own sense of honor to guide him.

When I was staying in Japan my Japanese professor who taught me to speak Japanese said this was one of his favorite movies. With people screaming "white washing" and " cultural appropriation" It was nice to see an actual Japanese citizen enjoyed this movie.

“The Last Samurai” was directed by Edward Zwick, who previously directed “Legends of the Fall” and “Glory” and later movies include “Blood Diamond”. He would later work with Tom Cruise again on “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back”. Ken Watanabe worked with Clint Eastwood in “Letters From Iwo Jima”.

If you think that the samurai is only a Japanese the answers is no, I just learned about it too years after this movie was released. I'm searching about this information because of I just read an interesting Manga 😂 not because of this movie though. In the Japanese historical record there are 3 famous foreign Samurai in Japan history in 1500's - 1800's Yatsuke (black African) he is consider of the trusted person by Oda nobunaga, Mirai Anji (andi Williams) from kent england a samurai with the Blue eyes and Eugene C from France. U can look for the books and literatures online about it ...its pretty interesting. Watch youtube Chanel "let's ask Shoga" he explain it very well in his short video content.
