the silliness of treating the word Samurai exclusively as a singular noun. The Last Samurai refers to Katsumoto's whole army practically.
@TheRealmDrifter
@TheRealmDrifter Жыл бұрын
@@drlca6601 The movie is available in multiple other languages, and they almost always translate the title as singular, not plural (which is probably a mistake. It's just funny that so many countries mistranslated it if that's the case). Also the poster for the movie says "TOM CRUISE" in the same large font size as "THE LAST SAMURAI" right underneath, so I don't blame people for thinking Tom Cruise is the Last Samurai when the poster looks like that. The marketing seems to have done this deliberately (most of the posters were just Cruise in armor and the title). But yeah, I think it would make more sense and be cooler if the title referred to Katsumoto's whole army instead of just one man.

I love Japanese actors When I was young I used to see all Asians alike, couldn't tell the difference between a Japanese & a Chinese for example. But as I grew up, I found it easy to realize how far they're different! Very unfortunate that Hollywood is slowly getting dominated by Chinese actors, producers... For a reason I don't understand at all! In term of talents, Japanese are far more superior!

Ken Watanabe should have recieved multiple oscars. Period. This was sold to us as a Tom Cruise movie, but is in fact a Ken Watanabe movie. He is the last Samurai, he is the ultimate warrior and Chieftain of his clan, he is intelligent, disciplined and benevolent, he rescues Tom Cruise, from the battlefield and from his inner demons, and (Spoiler alert) he is the one who makes the ultimate sacrifice for his way of life. The bookend to his statement about searching for the perfect cherry blossom, is his final line. "Perfect, they are all perfect."

@Sarnatuile

@@mikebrown1926 Just because you consider them good men, doesn't mean they consider that themselves. The whole idea is that human can struggle with killing, even if it's acceptable and in war. You can still feel guilt, shame etc of taking another mans life. We do not see honor in death the way the samurai do in this movie. For them it's a literal honor to die by the sword, in combat. Being fully convinced killing another is something good. That's probably what they mean.

@mikebrown1926 the ones with honest and big hearts have nightmares for the things they HAD to do to save their brothers and themselves. The good hearted men never went to war to hurt and kill but to save and protect. That's the biggest difference between regret, guilt and shame compared to being apathetic towards the things you've done. I've met many veterans that I can tell are good people but they have sad eyes. It's heartbreaking.

When I was young, I had nightmares, nightmares from shame, nightmares from being ostracized from a group Now that I have a family, my nightmares changed, it turned to not being able to provide for my family, and lacking the ability to keep them safe I had to drown it with alcohol😊

From 1:43 to 1:49 it transcends cultures and goes to the same common thing that unites all soldiers...the horrors and madness that they have seen and that at times man can descend to levels no better than the most vicious of animals. And the survivors hoping to make sense of it all and to hopefully live up to the fact that they survived such hell.

I'm seeing a lot of folks saying that there aren't many films like this anymore, and I agree with the responses that overly manufactured Disney/Marvel has spoiled the bunch, there's an easy way to fix this though fellas, instead of commenting, share this film with your friends, or children, or as I've seen quoted "brain-dead adults" (not my words), it common sense, change starts with the little guy... I'm a hypocrite because neither do I, but I felt that I had to voice my opinion as a 26 year old

This movie has a lot of depth, a great story and NO CGI. Todays movies move so damn fast you can hardly grasp what is going on. My opinion as a 66 year old.

And lots of cringe levels of overt sexualization. Like a weird worshipping of...sex? Just shows a cultural decline. Is all.

And there are plenty of them still around, you just need to look. I don't know why all of you focus so much on marvel movies as if they're the only movies being made. It's simply not true. There's still historical flicks coming out. The king, Outlaw king, Medieval, etc. There's plenty.
