@@melanieo313 The livestream for mine had audio issues so I missed the first few questions. Jamie Lee Curtis did expound on her dance scene and how it is inspired by the real life working practices of the workers she's portraying - 'bevertainers'. They have to perform in order for the casinos to be able to stop the workers from unionizing because they're entertainers, not cocktail waitresses technically... It really enlightens the context!

Saw this yesterday. I disliked the camera work and cinematography. The story was good but I am not sure I agree with the director's judgement of the character. Yes a Jamie movie would of worked. I was reminded of PEARL a bit.

Even with a running time of just 90 minutes, "The Last Showgirl" is a drag, mainly because it repeats its main points ad nauseam. The Academy should rescind the Oscar it gave to Jamie Lee Curtis in 2023 because of her over-the-top acting here. (And no one who works with this Vegas cocktail waitress -- no sympathetic co-worker? No supervisor? -- takes her aside and tells her to update her '70s clown makeup, if only for the sake of the club's reputation?) Meanwhile, what's with all the critical love for Pamela Anderson, with her breathy, little-girl-lost delivery? This performance is a nothingburger. Finally, this movie has way too much jiggle -- not of women's body parts, but of the annoying handheld camera. But, hey: If you release a movie in December, sheeplike Academy members and critics take that as a symbol that it is an Important Movie.

I thought the review was fair. I liked the movie and thought Pam did a great job with what she was given to work with. Her performance got better as the movie went on but wasn’t Best Actress Oscar worthy IMO. The issue was the script got a bit repetitive when it could’ve devoted more time to fleshing her out. It’s still worth a watch though!

Sounds like Shelly is a narcissist and there are plenty of them.. which makes more sense as to why she has zero empathy to anyone even her own daughter, that is psych 101… I think that’s why her character is so cold from what I’m hearing and even alcoholics/addicts are also in their own world which makes sense, that’s why her only friend is an alcoholic.. interesting character study to say the least.. anyhoo just my take on it..
