*My daughter drinks lots of water and urinates with the same rate, there are no other symptoms to show if those have anything to do with diabetes. This is a good information that I have gone through **Diabets.Care** She is 2 years 9 months, hale and healthy, have not done any blood test. But I am not certain if one can get diabetes at such a tender age. Please I will like to know more on that*

My oldest son is in his early 20's and he has type 1 diabetes. But thank God for this piece of article kzbin.infoUgkxVYhghKWmrUgXARZ_ydZTvmmcrw5L0I5i At first he thought he had the flu and was lying down on the bed for three days until his sister took him to the hospital. They took his blood and it was 600. What I do not understand is how he could have gotten it, since no one in the family has it. But he is winning the battle now. This is good stuff.

One summer my 6 year old at the time, T1D, decided he did not want to eat animals anymore so he ate an 80% fruit diet all summer. Something that may be a surprise to most that read this is that during that time we had to continually lower his fast acting and his long acting insulin. Many days he did not require any fast acting insulin at all.

To everyone saying he looks bad or sounds bad: He is old! Dude is 70 put him next to most 70 year olds he looks fine. Most people his age are losing their minds or on 20 medications. edit: Dont be stupid and say 70 is young the average life span for males in the US is 76. Yea its an average some live more, some live less. Also dont take offense if you are older and in good health be happy because most your age are not.

I am a podiatrist who worked extensively with ulcers and amputations through the years of practice. It finally occurred to me that the foot was attached to the body. I started a long road of studying the disease of diabetes. I have attended McDougall Advanced Weekend twice. I took his certification course and that of T Colin Campbell. I have read literally thousands of journal articles and hundreds of books on diabetes. There is no medical professional as honest and on the right path as John McDougall. He is a hero to those who learn from him and apply his message in their lives. He is the very best.

On May 1, 2018, I decided to give the McDougal diet for a month. Getting up in the morning became so much easier and I felt so good, that I didn't stop after the month was up. I've been on the McDougall diet for 7 months now, I am down 80 lbs (down from 300 lbs) and no longer prediabetic. Don't get me wrong, I've tried keto before, and that works too: It is incredibly helpful for curing sugar addiction. Unlike keto, where I had to worry about every carb to stay under 30 g a day, I just eat a large amount of potatoes, sweet potatoes, rice, and whole grains like buckwheat and quinoa with some beans, vegetables, and fruits. I eat as many whole foods as I want with total avoidance of animal foods and oil. It is dirt cheap and fast to cook all his recipes in my instant pot. I do exercise by walking 10,000 steps a day, but I have always done that and I have never been so successful at weight loss before. Say what you will: This guy's diet works.

Hi Josh, I am T2 Diabetic. I recent lost appetite due to chronic pain and meds I was on. I was basically fasting (one meal a day) for 4 weeks. My sister showed me pictures of my niece who was morbidly obese and another picture of here 16 months later. Wow whole different person. Shed 130 lbs on this lifestyle!!! That finally made me convinced to try it.,I scraped keto and then started basically eating the opposite and got my appetite back. It was surreal. For the first 4 days I did have to continue supplementing with insulin as usual. I’m on it for a week now. Last 3 days I woke up with absolutely perfect normal person blood sugar!! I’m shocked out of my mind. I was stuck before because it sounded bizarre and there are many people that sat John is a quack and I was leaning that way. This is such a Eureka moment for me. Unbelievable!

"virtually no education in nursing school on diet" -100% accurate and true.... isn't that awful? and yes, nursing school taught me how to pass my boards to get my RN license. taught me a lot about pharmaceuticals, surgeries, assessment, scans/check-ups, and what diseases are and what happens when they progress...was i taught anything on healthy plant based diets? or maybe preventing and reversing these diseases on vegan diets?? not one word... just to avoid apples if you have diabetes lol

Not necessarily true about apples. There are diets and there are diets. Doesn't have to be all plant based for a cure. I eat mostly plant based but still not vegan or vegetarian really but I do eat a high amount of veggies and some fruits that are low glycemic. One has to be realistic because we can't get all our nutrients from a full on plant based diet and even with those there are views within these things so they vary. Humans are omnivores. You just have to be selective. Not sure what this man believes in. Haven't gotten far enough in the video. Many types can cure because of how they are set up. Frankly I believe a modified ketogenic diet is the best but that's just my opinion. There are slow digesting carb diets, there is the SCD (S meaning Specific) and others. Some are for weight loss and others are for health and some are both. Have to fix insulin resistance. I have pre-diabetes. My A1C was 153. Not on any drugs. Doing it with diet. BUT I have other problems to deal with. Only on one med and it is for BP. Won't be taking that much longer.

When someone’s sugar handling systems are wonky, some cannot eat apples, due to the fructose content going straight to fat cell storage. Those could be better served by simply taking liquid Pectin, to get the fibers from apples, without the fructose hit. Various notes: In the 1990’a, granulated fructose was marketed heavily targeted to diabetics as “safe”. Then we discovered it was triggering fat growth, and, didn’t really protect diabetics. At that time, stevia was blocked from importation, due to industries marketing artificial sweeteners. Later on, they came out with other sugar forms, like sugar alcohols, for instance...all which have some effects people don’t want either. Industries started massively adding [and hiding] various fake sugars in prepared foods, including Monsanto getting special permission to add their 2nd-generation Aspartame, called “Neotame” to dairy products, including plain milk, without being required to label it as present in the dairy product [about 3 years ago]. Artificial sugars contribute to metabolic problems. The issue of sugar variants is still a problem, as SOME products on store shelves, are not really all Stevia or monk fruit, but adulterated, including that some that have artificial sweeteners in them as well [which means, it’s a good idea to get the real stevia powder to use [the green stuff], to make sure you get the real stuff, that has it’s co-factors in it]. In 50+ years of being involved in health care and the health care industry, I’ve witnessed there are dominantly [2] diets which have a high rate of curing numerous serious chronic health ills: 1. Vegan and some variants; and 2. Ketogenic with intermittent fasting and some variants. BOTH require drastic dietary changes for most people. BOTH have tricky bits that make them challenging. McDougall’s science is sound; he is in business, so sells products. Most Providers fail to, or worse, refuse, to do fasting insulin; yet, it’s long been known that insulin levels will be high long before it becomes actual diabetes. IF the medical industry really wanted to stop diabetes, and prevent all the other collateral damages it causes, they’d be testing fasting insulin, instead of fasting glucose. Or, they’d test both, to get a clearer picture. But they mostly refuse. One can find labs online, that allow patients to order any lab tests they want, hook them up with a local lab-draw station, to get whatever tests the person wants....all out-of-pocket of course. Beware of “research” being quoted on almost anything; most has been manipulated to sell products [extreme conservative estimate is: over 50% are manipulated. Another large % of research has been hidden, to prevent public learning of the bad effects of products] This has been going on for many decades, and has been increasing over the last 20 years. Regular medicine has done me harm, many times over the years. Now, unless it’s a real emergency I cannot handle, I use dietary measures, etc. alternatives, to take care of myself. Including controlling high BP using prepared garlic, or using Ayurvedic herbal combos, or single herbs to do that, too. The hardest part is off-loading excess fat, as systems are impaired. But diet definitely can control blood sugars, whether one uses either of those 2 kinds of diets....as long as one compensates for what either of those is missing, and does them right. One’s genetic roots DO have something to do with what diet works best for a person. That can be tricky to figure, when one has widely mixed roots, so can be some trial-and-error.

Someone I knew, died quite prematurely, after having been on a host of drugs for diabetes related sequelae; multiple drugs were anti-diabetic drugs. Then he was so desperate, he signed up to be a guinea pig for yet another anti-diabetic drug...and died within the year, of “massive heart attack”. He died about 10 years younger than his father, who also had DM2, but he had not been on all those drugs. IF both of them had been of a mind to change their diets, both would likely have lived to a great age, since great ages run in our family. I absolutely saw the connection between the drugs and dad’s death. But I have a hunch that NO ONE documented his death, as connected with the experimental anti-diabetic drug, much less the other anti-diabetic drugs or insulin he’d been on....the experimental drug then went on the market...I’m guessing it was given “conditional approval” awaiting proof that it was safe...then the company never supplied that to FDA...and so have just been coasting on the original conditional permission...same way almost all medical drugs and devices have been. I’ve had dentists deliberately try to make costly bridge work come unglued, so they could, “fix it”...I fired those. And Docs trying to force drugs that caused adverse effects, downplaying those the whole time. And staff insisting on administering IV drugs that patients were badly reacting to “it’s just one last dose”!!! The problem is, there’s so much that gets done WRONG, to patients, yet most are clueless, and actually fawn over the Doc, thanking them for taking care of them...but they don’t realize that what the Doc did was wrong, and often causes harm! ALWAYS remember: HALF of all licensed professionals, graduated in the bottom half of their classes, AND, required multiple tries to pass their State Licensing. MAYBE we really need some place for patients to screen their Docs for what their grade score class position was, when they graduated, and, how many tries did it take to get their State Licenses, and what was their passing test score, compared with others? Yeah...like public will ever get to see that....!?

Also remember that many docs were cluelessly taught the wrong things in Med School and many docs are corrupted by Industry funding and kickbacks, like McDougall. Also remember that the FDA has been taken over by big Pharma so they check off on phony trials to get the drug on the market and also pay off the major medical journals like JAMA and the LANCET to publish their "research" giving no proper data, such as double blind studies. The whole thing is a racket just to make money. I don't trust my doctor at all and I sure as hell wouldn't take any drug developed after 1980.

Thank you for bringing up the "Quality of Life" aspect. In the first place just being dependent on the whole medical system, including Big Pharma, doctors, Insurance, etc. is a huge depressing situation. I'm a Type 1. I consider hospitals to be a prison, having spent months in them for many illnesses related to Diabetes. The last thing I want is a Pump attached to me. It also creates a small open wound, which is a risk for diabetics.

I am type 2 diabetic. And I have been Plant Based for a month and 2 weeks. Since being on this. My SL has been between 90-118! When I am not on it. And I did stray for a couple of days after starting it. I ate cheesy pizza with pepperoni (homemade). Made chicken. Thought I was craving it. The next day my SL went back up to 127! I had almost went off of Plant Based. But I didn't the next day after that I went back on it. I had hashbrown's in my airfryer, Apple with PB, Soft Pretzels, later that day I had pasta with black beans (I made, my own recipe). My SL the next day after that was back down to 101. I haven't not strayed since. And I have so much energy. I have never had it before. There is a balance with anything you do. I was put on a Keto type thing when I was a kid. I was only like 80 pounds in the 3-4th grade. Which I did not think that was that bad. I was hungry all the time. My real mom did not like that I was on that kind of diet at that age. All I got to take for my school lunch was a package of lunchmeat. I will never go on something like that again. It makes me cringe. In about a month I am going back to the doc and get My A1C checked again. It was on borderline. I am anxious to see if it has changed. I was reading a page on Facebook Diabetic page. Everyone kept saying low carb. Cut out the Carbs, Cut out the Carbs. For some maybe. Like I said I will not go on something like that again. I been checking my SL everyday since I been on this. I am on 1 pill a day. So I am believing this works. I didn't think it would. So far it is.

I found McDougall not long after going vegan. I was eating a lot of peanut butter because I dont like veggies and I'm lazy. Since cutting back on fat and upping the amount of potatoes and rice I eat my skin has gotten better, I'm losing weight (and I was already fit), and I snack less and eat more. I've been cooking at home more than ever. I'm really glad I found his starch solution before I needed it. We got an instant pot a few weeks ago and that thing has been feeding us almost every day. Follow the money like in everything. A McDougall diet will have you free of meds, eating cheaper than ever and eating until you're full.

I worked in medical malpractice for 10 years of the 20 years of being an insurance defense paralegal...everything is about "standard of self-care" in that they want you to follow the protocol of the doctor's Rx/instructions...should you do "self-care" i.e., medication or anything outside of the protocol...you are more than likely held liable than the docs or hospitals. Someone had said something about non-compliant...they are using it more and more as a standard of CYA.

It is amazing that people go after each other ......there are excellent doctors on each side of this issue. If you watch a trial there will be an "expert" on each side with the exact opposite "expert" opinions. If a person is happy with what they are doing and their doctor concurs then why denigrate someone because they do not do what you do??? Each of us should state your opinion and experience but should stop talking to other people so rudely. Being right isn't everything.

I don't understand? So he's saying high-carb, low fat diet for type 2 diabetics? I don't understand how well-researched and well-respected doctors can deliver DIAMETRICALLY OPPOSING views on the same subject. Dr. Berg says only way to treat type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance is to minimize carbs to below 50grams and eat high fat. This is starting to piss me off - how can they say completely opposite things?
@reneebegley8266

Dr. Berg is a DC. Listen to Dr. Bergman on this. He is a DC too but is really up on everything and the studies. He has links to the studies he talks about ...the lists of them. Those like Berg can get censured because it doesn't fit the AMA guidelines. He has once. It isn't just eat high fat. It's specific. MTC types of oils, low protein and mostly plant based. This is the difference between allopathic medicine and other types of medical practitioners. Dr. Axe says a few things differently too but closer to Berg and Bergman and some others and he is highly educated and in clinical nutrition for one. Dr. Josh Axe, DNM, DC, CNS, is a certified doctor of natural medicine, doctor of chiropractic and clinical nutritionist with a passion to help people get healthy by using food as medicine. In 2008, he started a functional medicine center in Nashville, which grew to become one of the most renowned clinics in the world. The only downside to this guy is many things he recommends, aren't too cost effective. Kinda high. He has his own line of supplements just like Berg and many doctors who teach in this area. This man above is allopathic just like Barnard and often their ideas are wacky and not based in enough fact or fringe facts. Bergman will show you right out of medical journals things they don't tell patients. Many of the treatments they know don't really work but they don't know what else to do so they do them even though most will die not long after like heart treatments. If people want to try this diet it is their choice. As for me, NOPE.

I have to disagree with him about fat and carbs, I was diagnosed type 2 in mid January with an A1C of 10 and an average blood sugar of 240, the doctor of course put me on medications right away but I stopped taking most of them within 2-3 weeks. I went on a high fat low carb diet and also incorporated intermittent fasting and my blood sugars have been at normal levels ever since, I'm not talking normal diabetic I'm talking normal for a healthy person. My April A1C which still carried over a bit from the time before I started lowering my sugars was 6, I haven't taken any diabetes medication since very early February. My total cholesterol went down (was normal range to begin with) my triglycerides went from 158 to 118, everything that was bad in my previous blood work was now either in the normal range or nearly normal but they had all improved. I have lost 60 lbs since January eating steaks, bacon, eggs, full fat cheese, eating the skin when I have chicken and of course mostly organic vegetables with real butter on them and I never feel like I'm missing out by not having the junk food I used to eat a lot of. I don't miss breads, pasta, potatoes, fried foods or any of that stuff that I used to love. I'm not trying to start an argument with anyone here I just think there is more than one way to accomplish the goal, I check my blood 3 times a day and ever since I adopted this way of eating my glucose levels are always in the normal range, 70's to 90's.

The low carb high fat way of eating along with intermittent fasting has worked wonders for me.

I appreciate the concern but I think you are wrong. First of all since I started eating this way not only have I lost over 100 lbs but ALL of my blood markers have improved, those that were high are now normal and those that were normal even better. Cholesterol, LDL and Triglycerides have all dropped, my triglycerides were slightly high before I started eating this way and they've dropped substantially. I've eaten more eggs in the past 6 months than the past 6 years and my total cholesterol and LDL are both way down. Not only that but my A1C isn't even in the diabetic range anymore and hasn't been for a while all while not taking any medications to accomplish it.

I was diagnosed with type one diabetes at age 55 and I'm still fighting it as an intermittent fasting raw vegan. I'm 67 years old and my blood work, x-rays, ultrasounds, I'll say that I am absolutely perfect with exception to type 1 diabetes of which my c-peptide is all messed up, whatever that is. I take 12 units of Levemir daily and if I eat a banana by itself I can go as high as 300 on the blood glucose meter. Sometimes I wonder if those meters are set up because I've had blood sugars near 600 that I brought down with insulin. I've had three men at one time and check them all that were a hundred and 200 points off and I have called the manufacturers and had new meters sent and they're matching up better now but I just don't trust anything anymore so I eat healthy and try not to take anything except the 12 units to keep me at least under 200. My body wakes me up in the middle of the night if I'm below 70. Isn't that strange?

I was/am a type 1 insulin-dependent diabetic. Twelve years ago I had a successful kidney transplant and I am extremely grateful for that. At the same time, I underwent a failed pancreatic transplant meaning that I would have improved kidney function whilst still needing to inject insulin - or so I thought. During my recovery from surgery I adopted a regime of 2 tall glasses of raw vegetable juices every day. During regular checkups, doctors were always astounded at how well I was doing and how little insulin I needed to inject. Note that I was never a big consumer of meat, dairy, or processed sugar throughout this period. For the past 4 weeks I have eliminated meat, dairy, and processed sugar from my diet, essentially adopting a raw vegan diet, complemented by 2 raw vegetable juices per day. Whilst the discipline to maintain this diet has been extraordinary, the payoff has been huge as my blood sugars are consistently within the normal range and I haven’t had to take any insulin at all. Hence, why should I continue to take insulin if my blood sugars have been regulated? My eyes are now wide open.

Misinformative, you mean. This guy exemplifies everything I hate about lying sack of shit vegans! It is metabolically impossible to "cut calories" on a high-GI/high carbohydrate diet. Fucking piece of shit vegans, they caused the current T2DM situation and they're still doubling down. SJWs of the food world.

My wife has really bad type 2 diabetes,we have visited various doctors who have sent us to diabetic nurses and a diabetic specialist, non of them seem to be able to agree on the correct way to treat this problem, one tells us one thing and another tells us something completely different,we are at our wits end and don't know who to believe, the amount of medication she's on is unbelievable and now she has to take a shot of insulin before bedtime, this has improved things a little.

Also the Pump is designed to keep the Diabetic under Tight Control, as in low blood sugar numbers, which equals many episodes od Hypoglycemia. When the numbers dip too low, too fast the Diabetic may be unwell to even grab sugar, candy in time. Seriousely, Hypoglycemia is dangerous. Coma, and death. Not including the stress on the body to repeatedly, and rapidly go too low on a regular basis because the doctor wants you on Tight Control.

I agree with everything in this except the part about the pump/cgms. As a t1D for 18 years and the mother of a 6 year old with diabetes, I can firmly say these devices have made a huge difference in our lives. Small children often do not know if they are low and cannot tell you. Being able to see what the blood sugars are is a safety thing for those who cannot feel low blood sugars. The insulin pumps have given us the flexibility to feel like real people. Previous to being on a pump I had a strict schedule of when I could eat and when I couldn't. Now if I feel like grazing all day, I can. If I want to sleep in, I can. If I want to bolus for a midnight snack, I can. My point is, on paper the numbers might not seem like much, but the psychological difference these devices have made in our lives is huge and that is something that does not translate well on paper. That being said, there is no need for a type 2 to have a pump, let alone a cgms so I agree that his example is excessive. A 2 year old with type I though? Definitely a vast improvement on the quality of life and safety for this patient.

Fantastic video! I have been waiting for an in depth video like this to share with others. Especially the ones that don't believe I dropped my Ha1c two entire points in just 60 days on the plant based starch based McDougall diet with ZERO meds! Just the food, just the food!

If it worked for you, that's great. Thing is not all diets work for everyone for various reasons like other things going on in the body. I have to worry about a number of things beyond sugar levels. I'm only pre at the moment. I have always thought over the years it has more to do with food mixing than anything else and if you get the right things on a diet, any of them can work depending on the individual. Keto modified works for me but a ketogenic diet didn't work for someone I know. Many aren't doing them right and are doing a modified Atkins really. That diet is high protein, low fat, with plant based foods of specific types meaning veggies and fruits and you don't have to be below 20 carbs except the first two weeks. It's just a start up thing. Whereas most ketogenic diets want you to almost eliminate carbs (I don't think that is good personally) not eat certain types of things like beans and legumes. I eat both but not every week and still lose weight. You have to soak them especially legumes to get rid of most of the starch and lectins. Put baking soda in the water then rinse. Initially you rinse them a number of time and then soak. Most packages say you don't have to soak them but if you don't you won't get rid of a lot of the starch and lectins. Cooking them gets rid of the rest for the most part. They're good for you, and especially if you have macular degeneration as well as spinach and kale and things like that. Corn is good for that too but I rarely eat it and only when it is organic. There are low glycemic fruits as well that are good for many things. One has to think of how things affect the body as a whole and not just one thing going on. That's why I like wholistic and functional medicine and hate allopathic.

Dr. Mcdougall, why can't you do lab work to determine how much Insulin the pancreas is producing? In my case I was misdiagnosed as Type 2. I had Ketoacidosis many times and was deathly ill with various bizarre infections. I tried many eating styles that never helped. Finally, a Diabetes educator said, "I think you are a Type 1, not Type 2 or 1.5, that's why none of the dietary restrictions work." I was thin as a skeleton for several years and always very ill. Finally, I was referred to an Endocronologist and had my Insulin levels checked. I am a Type 1. Do the proper Labs in the first place so the patient can know.

I am a Type 2 diabetic on 2 oral meds. I am always having episodes of hypoglycemia, my medications were reduced until it normalized and my medications were discontinued. Something that I took plus another liquid medication and now I am completely off. And yes, I lost weight, too. My diet consists mostly of fruits/ veggies and lately, eat rice and not much of bread and somehow, maintaining my weight lately. My next visit will either be in Aug or September and have a blood test a week before my appointment. So far, I am doing good, hopefully, my stable condition will continue till I see my PMD...by the way, diabetes runs in the family, including my siblings...🇱🇷🇨🇿

I am confused. If high sugars creates diabetes or insulin resistance, why will a high carb diet fix it? Aren't carbs turned into sugar in the body? Since complex carbs are turned into sugar doesn't that spike insulin? I am genuinely confused.

31 minutes into the video. I could cry. My partner is in hospital with diabetic complications. He is on metformin and they want to start him on insulin. He keeps refusing it. Every day they have tried to ask him to take this. His health is affected in so many areas. unfortunately when he is left to his own devices. he can't stick to an eating plan long term. he reverts to sugary things. he can lose weight when he puts his mind to it. so his weight varies from being thin to extreme excess in weight. I think it is best to avoid the sugary foods and attempt to eat a healthier alternative to what we have been taught and buy yourself some time to figure it out. Dr mcDougall is by far the best speaker of his time. I hope many more lives will be saved through his programmes of recovery. God bless him.

...don’t know what he is smoking, but ask any diabetic what happens when they eat too much sugar. Their insulin doesn’t become more efficient. How in the heck did they get to be diabetic in the first place? If what he is saying isn’t true all the people on the Atkins diet would get diabetes.
