Che Guevara is the Argentine-born doctor who became an iconic figure after playing a key role in Fidel Castro’s revolution in Cuba, where his image adorns t-shirts and mugs, as well as buildings.
Cubans are marking the 50th anniversary of Guevara's death.
Al Jazeera’s Lucia Newman reports from Havana on the legacy of the man who helped turn Cuba into a socialist state.

@Lore Sogge Propaganda - deliberate action aimed at shaping specific views and behaviors of a human community or an individual. Propaganda is often associated with material prepared by a country's government to promote positive public attitudes consistent with the raison d'état. Propaganda has always accompanied human - when building the first societies, shaping cultures, religions, philosophies and other systems of values and ethics. To this day, each country uses narrowly or widely spread propaganda through, for example, advertisements or election campaigns.

From what I've heard and read, he preached by example, he never asked others to do what he couldn't do. That inspires respect. Actually, it's really hard to be like he was, there are stories from his comrades that say that when they were fighting at Sierra Maestra, some of the people that lived there (guajiros), gave them food, to the entire unit, and of course, since he was the boss, they gave him the best food, meat, and whatnot, they also invited him to eat inside their houses, while his troops would have to eat outside, he rejected that and went to eat outside to share his food with his men. That says a lot of the type of person he was.

He helped bring the people their land back, raised literacy rates & helped with Castro to achieve universal healthcare. B Mac Wrong. He wasn’t racist or any of the thing’s you mentioned, those are false claims brought up by defenders of the imperialist state (like you). Go back to the drawing board - Che was a hero. I wonder if you feel George Bush was an honorable man?
@joma5721
@joma5721 4 жыл бұрын
@@bmac4039 You've clearly never actually investigated these claims in any detail. If you had, you'd know how wrong they are and wouldn't spread them. Che's supposed "racism" comes from his own admission of such in his Motorcycle Diaries, BUT he was at this point a sheltered, upper-class youth who was just repeating the popular beliefs of those around him (kind of like you seem to do). He immediately and full-heartedly disavowed racism very shortly after his return to Argentina, and very clearly practiced what he preached on that front. The smear that Che was a homophobe is based on actions (which were, unfortunately, well within the mainstream practice of most governments at the time - not to excuse evil actions, just pointing out that they're not any more evil than actions taken by, say the US during the same time period) undertaken in Cuba by Fidel Castro's government AFTER Che had already left Cuba. As for his "anti-Semitism", I'm unaware of any quotes where he specifically talks about Jews apart from one instance in the Motorcycle Diaries where he mentions a man's faith in passing (I don't remember the context.) As far as I'm aware, he supported the Palestinian struggle against Israeli oppression solely on the basis of the fact that the Palestinians were, in essence, being treated as a colonized people by the Israeli state; this had nothing to do with his personal opinions on Jews as a people, or ethnic/religious group.
@joma5721
@joma5721 4 жыл бұрын
B Mac Yeah. Maybe you’ve seen something I haven’t. I will say, normally when I ask people for sources about this issue, specifically, it takes about 5 minutes of digging to show that these sources are distorting the facts such as I laid them out in my original post, and if that’s the case I’d appreciate if you let me respond with some references of my own. Most don’t really seem all that interested once it gets to that point. I’ll definitely give your references a shot, though.
@joma5721
@joma5721 4 жыл бұрын
B Mac Again, he disavowed all of those views and statements in his lifetime. Like I said in my original post, these were his views at a time when he was a sheltered, upper-class youth, and we can see that within a month of that trip ending, he was agitating for better treatment of the black minority. He held some pretty terrible views when he knew little of the world and just absorbed/accepted the dominant values of the society in which he grew up. When he learned that he believed this things in error, he quickly turned his back on them and fought those that held onto them. It’s like saying Woody Guthrie is a racist, because he used the N-word at a time when it was common practice. Was he wrong? Yes. But he also consistently agitated for civil rights for people of color in the US, and we can see that after receiving a letter from a black man that detailed the problem with this behavior, he never used the word again. That is to say, sometimes somebody can make atrocious statements not out of malice, but ignorance. They’re still wrong, still deserve criticism, and they’re still responsible for perpetuating a horrible lie. However, in the case of Che (much like Woody) he didn’t *continue* to propagate that kind of bigotry after having learned that it was, indeed a lie. And he didn’t just disavow those beliefs, he actively, and literally, waged war against them. If we turn to Che’s life post-Motorcycle Diaries, then we can see that, for example, he specifically mentioned race in his 1964 UN speech, saying: “this Assembly will acquire greater maturity and demand of the U.S. Government guarantees for the life of the blacks” And: “Those who kill their own children and discriminate daily against them because of the color of their skin; those who let the murderers of blacks remain free, protecting them, and furthermore punishing the black population because they demand their legitimate rights as free men - how can those who do this consider themselves guardians of freedom?” Put into proper context, what holds more weight to you - the diary pages of a sheltered 24 year old student, or the deeds of a man who spent time learning, meeting people and agitating for better conditions, and who spoke strongly in favor of his convictions in front of the whole world? I also notice that you fail to mention any concrete *actions* taken by Che outside of scribbling notes at 24 years old, and say nothing about the countless deeds that contradict them from his later years.

A revolution cannot be accomplished with freedom of the press.” 3) “To send men to the firing squad, judicial proof is unnecessary. These procedures are an archaic bourgeois detail. This is a revolution! And a revolutionary must become a cold killing machine motivated by pure hate.” 4) “Hatred is the central element of our struggle! Hatred so violent that it propels a human being beyond his natural limitations, making him a violent and cold-blooded killing machine. Our soldiers must be thus.” 5) “I fired a .32 caliber bullet into the right hemisphere of his brain which came out through his left temple. He moaned for a few moments, then died.” 6) “I’d like to confess, Papa, at that moment I discovered that I really like killing.” i think would be better with less but hay im not a homophobic mass murderer.
