Good pickup on Vex covering her mouth up at the dinner party to be circumspect. There's been no indication yet in the show, but in the campaign it's based on, Vex has learned to read lips. Seems fitting she would protect herself from eavesdropping via such methods.

Fun fact: the "Your soul is forfeit" line is actually taken from another scene in the same episode of the campaign, a scene that otherwise didn't make the cut (not that i'm sorry to see it go, there wasn't space for it in the adaptation). In the scene in the campaign where Percy shoots the servant's fingers off, his original lines were mostly listing the names of his family members - Frederick, Johanna, Julius, Vesper, Whitney, Ludwig, Oliver, in case you're curious - demanding to know what happened to them (except for Cassandra, presumably because he knew he'd seen her shot with arrows, but in the campaign at least he says the rest of it is a bit of a blur and he doesn't quite remember details of what happened, he knows he saw the bodies of some of his family but couldn't say which ones), only for the servant to confirm them all as dead. But in series and campaign both, powerful and terrifying scene, and it's only going to get more intense from here!

While I found the first two episodes good, it was, to me, still typical fantasy world, 'band of misfits' fare. Not all that original either. You've got the typical one dimensional archetypes in their group with some twists and quirks. Well executed story of course, but stuff we've all seen before. I mean, did anyone doubt they would kill the dragon without any casualties, or even major injuries? Not at all. Even you guys were expecting them to win. BUT! This is the episode that really got me hooked. Very interested in Percival's character. The whole plague mask power/being wtv, SUPER F***ING COOL. Love these types of characters. Even your reactions when he put his mask on and was about to f*** that kid up, beautiful - pure, undiluted, genuine, concentrated emotion, I mean I could tell from your faces you actually had no idea what was going to happen Oh and the Briarwoods? Dammnnn, very cool vampiresque enemies. Cool bloodthirster sword too. Totally not the boring, unoriginal, unimaginitive copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of a fantasy setting I initially thought it was! Glad I gave it a chance Honestly, I think Vanessa's joke did it for me "He knows how to pick a lock eh...with his DDICK!" LMAO LMAO, don't ever stop, I swear
@danilooliveira65802 жыл бұрын
considering that for many of them it was the first time they were playing D&D it makes sense that their characters were pretty unidimensional, they also had a lot of simple D&D adventurers we all know before they even started streaming, its only on the briarwood arc that the story really starts to pick up and the depth of their characters start to show, Percy is just the first, but everyone has their own story arc. though I'm not sure how much of them we will see in the show, it will depend on how many seasons we get.
@nadeeml92762 жыл бұрын
@@danilooliveira6580 hopefully if this show is successful on Prime, itll be renewed for many more seasons
@SightUnseen5552 жыл бұрын
@@nadeeml9276 It's already been renewed for a second season! And yeah this arc of the story is pretty early in the Critical Role campaign, all things considered. The first two episodes were from an arc that pre-dates them livestreaming their game. They started the campaign stream as they were level 9 and when they started the Whitestone arc they were level 11/12. Whitestone arc starts on episode 25 of a 115 episode campaign that takes them all the way to level 20 in D&D. Like Danilo said, this was many of the player's first times playing D&D so they originally stuck with some pretty tropey but tried and true archetypes. I think Taliesin was one of the more experienced roleplayers in the group so his character Percy was a bit more well-fleshed out and unique from the get-go. They do evolve and develop much more complexity throughout the campaign, which I'm really looking forward to seeing in future seasons. If they ever do an animated series for Campaign 2 (The Mighty Nein,) those characters are all quite a bit less cliche fantasy trope-ey right from the get-go.

Don't get too comfortable in the "Obviously the leads have plot armor, no one's gonna die or get significantly hurt." This isn't a spoiler because its from a story arc that came before the animated series: Pike actually did die in a fight against demons and had to be brought back, she originally had black hair and it turned white when she was revived. The mark across Grogs chest is a scar from where a Lich tried to take him over, Pikes magic couldn't completely heal it. Vax was very, VERY close to dying here. I won't spoil future events but they all have their fair share getting too close to death.

The show picks up very much like the first campaign did. By that I mean that they had been playing the game for several years before they started streaming. So it is kind of fitting that you can have so many questions about the characters, their past, and how they all relate to each other. Just like the streaming show, much of this will probably be filled in over time and revealed and you will learn more about the characters as they progress. But if you want, there are abbreviated videos showing the characters backstories and the adventures that they had before they started streaming. These videos do not have any spoilers in them (beyond episode 3), and technically a few things are changed for the show vs the original campaign, so they may just give you a good idea of the characters but may have a few minor details changed for the show. @@hhylobates4098 will it be one a week ? Im a binge watcher and don’t like only getting half a story 🤷♂️ I’m not starting s3 until e 100 so hopefully it takes me right through to the end once I catch up 🤣

@@battleraven5984 Three episodes a week, so we're halfway through up to 6 now. Just two more weeks and you can binge it all at once.

@@snipegrzywa yah, but I give you a mansion with all that deterioration & you only have $5, is that really a gift? Plus they can’t even sell it 😂
