My guess is Legend Lore since it can be used at a distance. (5th level Divination) "Name or describe a person, place, or object. The spell brings to your mind a brief summary of the significant lore about the thing you named. The lore might consist of current tales, forgotten stories, or even secret lore that has never been widely known." The more you know already about a place, the more specific the information is as it tells you things you didn't know.

Yep... Although, flame produced by acetylene-oxygen mixture (burning at roughly 3500° C in open space, capable of almost-instaneously melting through/burning through steel at the point of contact and thus used in cutting torches) has blue coloration. And also anything heated over 7000° C will glow blue... By the way, to those who might subscribe to conspiracy theories, steel starts to weaken at roughly 400°C (depends on the type of steel, but still), and a flame in enclosed space can achieve much higher temperature due to heating up the space (after all, the temperature itself is just an indication of thermal energy in an object or area)

5:15 I saw that more as an Earthbind spell, since Umbrasyl could still move his claws and land vertically on the tower to stop himself from falling. With Hold Monster he would have been paralysed and would have had no chance to grab the wall.

That possible spell really gave me a run for my money but I'm luck to have such a great community that know way more about the game to help me out. Its nice to have a second pair of eyes on these things. It's really cool that your from 3.5e I've had to learn more about that system to figure out some of this spells because Critical Roles campaign started as a Pathfinder game which is really similar I believe. If you're playing 3.5, maybe you could answer this for me. Did ":Word of Recall" used to take the caster back to their "home", where ever that was? I thought that was what the crystal Gilmore used to get the party back to their fort did, but 5e Word of Recall take the party back to a previously prepared Holy space. Pike could have used it to get them back to her shrine in the fort, but would have had to prepare for that in advance, so doesn't seem likely. I think that was how the spell used to work back in Basic, but that was a long, long time ago.

I'm still learning 3.5e so I'm not the greatest with it but word of recall in 3.5e still seems to target a sanctuary not your home per say but their is a holy space inside their keep. The main differences I noticed is with the number of players you can bring with you. It seems like 3.5 word of recall has a 3 x caster level limit while 5e can only take 5 players. I would say the spell alura uses on Umbrasyl in episode one is closer to Earth Bind, because though it does seem to wrap all the way around him, he continues to move(in hold monster he would be paralyzed) and the effect goes away as soon as stands on the wall. Just a thought though. so cool how your going through and pointing everything out.

Scrying doesn't quite match up. Scrying must target a creature, not a place, and they would have to target one of the dragons, who, even if they failed the save, would probably have enough legendary resistances to block it. Even more important however, is scrying shows the present at the targets location, while the waterfall is showing things that happened during the attack, which was a least a full day ago (the castle is shown standing, before Thordak blew it up real good).

Shield wouldn't have worked on the breath weapon. I'm figuring just some weird magic item effect - as that is Gilmores stock in trade. Wall of Force is a possibility, but the shape and size is off - but that could be because of the item.

Good point but it could easily be the design team taking artistic liberty or Matt homebrewing the monster like how the Change Shape ability is only found on metallic dragons but Matt used it on chromatic dragons all the time even in the stream game. Since Vorugal isn't a spellcaster like Raishan I choose to go with this ability as it is found in rare cases in dragon's like Tiamat. Thank you for the comment honestly it could be ether or as ether way it would be a homebrew addition to the creature and a deviation away from the original Vorugal stats no matter which we choose.

Thank you for the comment you could be right. My reasoning would be that levitate is a Wizard/Sorcerer spell and zhra is a Warlock with the Great Old One patron which gives her access to Telekinesis. Solid point. My reasoning is that Holy Weapon imbues a weapon with radiant energy while Spiritual Weapon is a spectral weapon that the caster calls forth which is more like what we see in the videos. I believe them holding the weapon instead of controlling it from afar is more of a favor thing and not a limitation of the spell per say but I could be wrong. Spiritual Weapon kinda worked both ways in campaign 1. Sometimes it was a floating independent entity but other times it was basically a conjured weapon a character weilded. At one point Pike creates a spiritual weapon and hands it off to someone else to physically use. Not RAW, but certainly cool.

Looking at her wiki page I am not seeing anything that says Kima has a class or ability that should allow her to learn guiding bolt, which is a cleric spell. So I am pretty sure that is another spell that she uses in episode 1. But I could be wrong.

I totally agree that it behaves more like Dancing Lights but this is most likely the animators taking artistic liberty on this one just like how Pike wields her Spiritual Weapons instead of them floating nearby her. As Pike is a Cleric of the War Domain she doesn't have access to Dancing Light but does have the Light spell. "Call Armor" - isn't a cleric ability or spell that I can find. Is it some magic armor that she's picked up somewhere that allows her to do this? "Transport via plants", Percy is the last one in, but the second one out. It's fine i suppose, but they should have kept everyone in order. Also, trees that grow on a cliff face, still try to grow "up", not straight out from the face. This tree shouldn't look like it does, but eh, whatever. 3:12 I'm not sure if Wind Wall can do this. The description mentions gases and light objects being effected, but nothing about blasts of water. However, it can't do what going on next, at 3:25 This is either "Control Winds" (4rth level) or "Whirlwind" (7th level) 3:34 Telekinesis" can't do that, that has to be "Wall of Force" 3:40 Now this is "Telekinesis" 4:00 Maybe this is Eldritch Blast, maybe not. There are just too many energy beam spells it could be to be certain, especially given the amount of flavor they are putting into the animation. 4:39 I think this is just a "Detect Magic". Assuming they were just looking for the Deathwalkers Ward. "Find the Path" takes you to a specific location, not to an object or creature. When cast, this spell covered everything, and caused the door to glow. If they used Find the Path to find the tomb of Purvan, they wouldn't be going where they are going. Unless there is something else in the tomb they are looking for. I don't know. Don't spoil me. 5:05 yeah that's a Wall of Force. I had thought maybe Warding Wind, until the dying guards hand hit it with a thunk. It would have passed through Wind. 5:08 That's Earthbind (level 2), not Hold Monster. It very clearly matches the spell description, 5:23 This is a magic item doing something, probably not a spell, although it could just be making a very small Wall of Force. 6:03 "What do you think?" I think that's "Legend Lore" 5th level Divination for Clerics, Bards, and Wizards. Allows you to name a person, place or object, and provides a brief summary of knowledge about it. The dragon attack would be the most important knowledge at this point. 7:20 Flurry of Blows is right, but should mention it is being combined with "Open Hand Technique", which pushes the opponent back.

Thank you for the detailed question I'll do my best to answer them for you. Call Armor- is a 3.5e spell. Since campaign 1 was ported over from pathfinder which is very similar to 3.5e. Some spells were still used by the characters and monsters well into the campaign. So I look at their spell lists too when trying to figure these out. Transport via Plants- I agree they should have stayed in order. If I recall correctly about the tree it is that it did grow straight up but the landscaped changed. In the original stream the land was scarred by conflict and upheave the land which caused the tree to become sideways . Eldritch Blast- Zahra is a Warlock and in the original stream she uses Eldritch Blast a lot which is why I choose this one for her. Telekinesis- Since Zahra is a Warlock with the Great Old One pact she has assesses to Telekinesis but Wall of Force is limited to Wizards as far as I can tell off hand which I could be wrong about. I try to limit myself to mechanical restriction in the game like class, level, etc and only break this rule as a last resort but I do make mistakes and there is a lot of information in this game which is why the community offering a second pair of eyes is great and I appreciate everything you guys are doing to help me. Find the Path- you made a solid point here my reasoning was that their were multiple tombs so he was finding the path to the right one and I was interpreting each tomb as their own location. Since the spell looks for the best path and the tomb was hidden under the floor it may have chosen the best path that it could determine by going lower but I'm not sure and I feel that locate object or person would have the same problem. Like why didn't it just take him to the spot in the floor were it was hidden. But I do agree that it could be detect magic as both locations glowing could have meant that there both magical triggers but they could of glowed due to them both being viable path to get to the tomb. Don't worry about spoilers on this one I don't remember what was beyond that path. Earthbind- I agree on this one after reading more about this spell it does look like the best options I will probable change this when I do the all spell breakdown video for this season. Thank you for the insightful bit of information here its really helpful. The Item- Interesting point Gilmore does own a lot of magical items so this is total possible. I'd still keep it in the video as bonus point even if its an item because its spell related like I did with the teleport item Gilmore uses later in the episode. Legend Lore- this is honestly one of my favorite suggestions for this spell so I completely agree with you. Furry of Blows- thank you for the details on this one I'll add that to future videos about this ability. Thank you so much for your very knowledgeable and detailed response to this video. The only thing we do know is that if she is multiclassed, she has to have warlock. There might be more info in the actual CR episode(I'm re-watching anyway, so I'll check).

I mean, if we are going to start pointing out flaws, I'm surprised you haven't pointed out that Feather Fall at 1:53 goes against the spell's actual mechanics. Feather Fall causes "A falling creature's rate of descent [to slow down] to 60 ft per round until the spell ends. If the creature lands before the spell ends, it takes no falling damage and can land on its feet, and the spell ends for that creature." I get the whole, "they landed on breasts! Ha ha," but that isn't how the spell works. The spell targets creatures, not the area where the creatures are going to land.

Thanks for the question. It was revealed later in the season but any character with those green eyes are actual Raishan (the green dragon) using her Change Shape feature.

Call Armor is 3.5e spell, did they port it 5e? Or did pike just have mage Armor? Or summonable Armor? Like cast-off armor(uses a bonus action to take on/off) and thus can seem summoned/rp as summoned.

It could be for flavor, though it could also be an ability of the armor itself. I believe summon-bonded items are a thing, but I could be wrong

They might of ported it. Is it in Pathfinder? That's what they started Campaign 1 in, and then ported their characters over to 5e for the name recognition on the stream. That was way back when they first started streaming from their kitchen table games.

Ancient dragons are that strong. They are also incredibly rare. Ancient dragons usually get some spells, and extra abilities to represent their power levels. They are among the strongest creatures you can fight in DnD with some of them on the level of Arch-Devils or Demon Princes.

They are very strong since they are ancient dragons but Thordak is enhanced by the crystal in his chest. So he is abnormally strong by comparison to the others. Thank you for the question.

Watching the first three episodes on my second viewing I realized that was the green dragon. When the three dragons were talking I kept asking myself where was the 4th dragon and it hit me. Not a spoiler my friend, and Sadkinght does give spoilers warnings.

It is who you think it is. I agree with trying to avoid spoilers which is why there is a spoiler warning at the beginning and why I kept it vague in the clip so people who already knew would get it and anyone that doesn't know wouldn't getting it without asking or looking it up. In which case I warn them that the info is spoiler related and from what I've seen from the comments others that are answering it are also being respectful not to spoil it for the new viewers. I'm familiar with the twitch stream of the show that's why I know this is the shape change ability being used during this moment. You also see brimescythe using the same ability in season 1. I also grouped every ability with the person using it. For example at the start of the video all the spells are used by pike.
