The Legend Of Zelda - 1 - Outset

Setting out on my first adventure through The Legend Of Zelda, and reminiscing on my history with the series. I'm hoping to make it all the way through on my own... let's see.
I've been wanting for a while to start getting some time into a list of older games that I've never played, or have wanted to revisit. This seems like a great place to start!

Kudos on you for seeking and reading the manual! It’s the way it was meant to be played at the time. People who just download an emulator without the manual and go “ugh this is so stale” don’t get it. Zelda 1 is one of the most important game of all time and for good reason. I actually miss the dungeons being very well hidden and requiring hardcore exploring and riddle solving to find. It’s one of the things I miss most in BotW and TotK. However once you’ve played the r very first game AND the open world Switch games, it becomes very clear how stale and soulless Zelda had gradually become in between.

I haven't played every Zelda game, but I think it was Twilight Princess in particular that turned me off the series for quite a while. Transforming into a wolf seemed super cool and then I ended up just thinking it felt lifeless and like going through the same motions. I should try it again someday to see if my opinion would be different now. I wanted better combat and deeper dungeons/puzzles in BotW, but it did breathe some new life back in. I've not tried Tears. Another for the list.

@@straysgamejournal Tears has addressed a lot of "quality of life" issues with Breath, I think. It's not perfect but it's super fun, playing with the physics opens so many possibilities, it's genius. I finished Twilight when it came out but felt underwhelmed. Agreed it felt lifeless. I bought and Skyward Sword, within an hour or two I let out a huge sigh, it felt so forced and useless as a game. I left it there and never gave it another chance. It didn't help that I didn't get the stupid wiimote flight controls and kept falling.
