If anyone is still watching this now, you do NOT need to use the spike bombs in the second phase. You can actually L-Target Gyorg while walking in the floor as a Zora and hit him with your boomerang fins while you pull the circle pad AWAY from Gyorg. You can resist the vortex and hit him so he stops.

Man, this boss in both original and 3DS remake was most difficult Zelda boss in Zelda history. Not to mention, see Link get eaten alive in original N64 and 3DS remake sort of scary nightmare fuel.

I like the idea of a second phase for this boss. It honestly caught me off guard the first time I played it. But the actual second phase isn’t very good. It’s hard to tell when he’s gonna suck in the water and you lose your chance. Then you gotta waste your time waiting for the next cycle. It’s boring. It should’ve been way better. A 1 on 1 fight like with N64 Odalwa would have been cool. Finding an opening and exploiting that with Zoe’s magic or something.

I just played it yesterday for the first time. I didn’t like the second phase at first and thought it was really hard to time. Then I realized you didn’t even need to use the spike bombs, you can resist the vortex by simply holding the circle pad away from Gyorg and then you can use the Zora fins to hurt him. It’s actually not too difficult and more fun than trying to time the bombs. Overall I think the fight is actually a little easier (then again I always gotta get my Chateau Romani crutch).

@@Gr3gLMAO I kind of understand where you’re coming from, but that doesn’t excuse the second phase for being awful and poorly designed. The second phase is mainly the reason why so many people in the comment section dislike the boss for being way too long to defeat. It doesn’t help that Gyorg’s attack pattern is unpredictable; from my own experience, it is hard to know when it will start inhaling underwater and when to cut the mines at the perfect time so it can inhale them and expose its giant eye.

​@@Hylianguy38 I literally just beat him in less than 2 minutes on first try The boss is quite predictable in comparison with the original, but if u know the pattern of the vortex and the spikes, it can turn out being fun It's definitely much more easier than the original, that's for sure

The n64 version was harder on har to go into the water to damage him after stunning him. And there was a big chance he’d catch you after he’d recovered.

I could beat this boss without getting hit in record time but I picked up the game after years of not playing it and uh... Yikes. (I was actually naturally just good at doing the boss, my first run was near perfect but now for some reason I lost my touch and I finally understand why people think this boss is hard.)

I actually defeated this Gyorg FASTER and with LESS damage than on the N64. So it is an improvement over the original to me.

@@Jack574. It’s actually easier and faster to beat Odalwa in this game. But that’s at the cost of a good boss fight. Ghot is fine, but Gyorg and Twin Mold make up for that by taking an eternity to beat. I dunno what was up with the Twin Mold fight. That shit took ages.

I did the same thing, but in the 1st phase, I transformed into a Zora and used the electric shield to damage Gyorg...

This guy was much harder back in my day. He rammed into the platform to make you fall off so he could eat you and then after you shot and stunned him, you needed to swim down as a zora and hurt him yourself. The latter of which made me feel very uncomfortable cos he's a giant fish! The guy intimidated me as a kid, I was so afraid to get in his jaw because I could barely see in the water.

@@aliciacleeland2257 He only ever inhales when you're in close proximity to him - so it's not really a game of timing it so much as it is of breaking the right mines and rushing to him as quickly as possible. Not overly difficult once you know how it works

_ D0ct0r _ the original fight was harder. You had to go down into the water to damage him every single time. And on top of that he could easily catch you after recovering taking a large chunk out of your health. This fight can easily be won without fairy’s. The old one fairy’s were a must have.

This may be the hardest boss in the N64 game, although I'm not a fan of all the machanics in the original fight. But OMG this remake made it so much easier and boring!!! They just put an eye inside its mouth, that doesn't make any sense

The old game forcing you to master an annoying swimming mechanic was its worst part. (Personally I don't think I'm that bad at it, as far as leaving myself enough room to not bonk my head on the way up. But even then, you still need to make sure you're not too far _away_ from the ledge. Though I guess you can adjust a little bit.) I feel like many have trouble with the entire swimming skill required, like how a lot of people have trouble with Pilotwings for SNES and cannot for the life of them figure it out. Here, it seems a bit excessive with the eyeball pausing to show up, and the insane spamming of arrows. The original has a kind of raw feeling to it, like you're on your own, but free to do anything.

This boss fight is cool imo and I remember stuggling how to fight it on my first playthrough. And I like that, makes finally beating the boss much more satisfying than it being easy
