Fun thing to note about the bank, the guy likely tattoos you with a code equal to the amount of rupees you have stored with him. When you go back in time, the tattoo stays, but the rupees don't go back and magically fill his vault. You are literally scamming him out of his money.
@jaxonnobles
@jaxonnobles 8 жыл бұрын
That's kinda the way real banks work, you do realize that, right? You go to the bank, give them money, they give you a card that says how much money you have, and at any time you can go back to any other bank, even though you don't have money in that bank, and take money out. They literally couldn't have been more realistic about the bank unless they make the bank some dingy bleak place out on the outskirts of town. Oh, and the whole "scamming him out of his money" thing, that money is still yours, since the code on you stands for the money you have, and the code stays the same no matter what, even through timelines.
@MT-fs9bl
@MT-fs9bl 8 жыл бұрын
But now you didn't give him the money in the first place. So he is giving you back money you never ACTUALLY gave him in that timeline. It's like if someone made a code in real life that tricked a back into thinking you had money with them, but you didn't.
@jaxonnobles
@jaxonnobles 8 жыл бұрын
Michael Tyler Except you would have had to give money to him for him to give you that code, and the money he gives you is money he has in the bank, it wasn't actually yours. It's exactly how real banks work, even if you didn't give money to him in that timeline, you still gave money to him technically, so you wouldn't be getting more money than you already had.
@MT-fs9bl
@MT-fs9bl 8 жыл бұрын
Right, that is how banks work. The time travel is the issue though. Say the bank starts with 1000 rupees. In timeline A you give him 100 and he gives you a code to withdraw 100 rupees. He now has 1100 rupees. But then you time travel. He once again now only has 1000 rupees, then you use your code for 100 rupees. You now get the 100, but he is suddenly 100 short. The main point wasn't about you making money off the "scam" but him losing money.
@jaxonnobles
@jaxonnobles 8 жыл бұрын
Michael Tyler Except he's a bank, most banks are backed by the government, so he himself isn't loosing money, the government technically is, assuming that Hyrule has a government. And if the government was loosing money, they wouldn't really be, because they can just make more, of course the price of said money will go down, but that happens all the time, in real life too.

1:31 Okay fair point, but the thing is, as evil as Gannondorf is, he's a despot not a destroyer. Sure he destroys a lot of shit and leaves Hyrule in a state of darkness and fear, but there's still a world left to be standing on. Skull Kid is, as pointed out, chaos and destruction with no rhyme or reason. To also quote, "it's the difference between lawful evil and chaotic evil."

does anyone else find this game really fucking depressing once you start thinking about the plot
@davidandersson7642
@davidandersson7642 7 жыл бұрын
The game is supposed to be depressing. And winning is supposed to leave you melancholic. It's a similar feeling to Link's Awakening on the Gameboy, where you realize that the world is all a dream and by defeating the bad guys you are actually ending the dream, effectively killing everyone in the kingdom. Majora's Mask, like Awakening, makes you complicit in an act of futility and that strikes a chord with audiences.
@matthewmuir8884
@matthewmuir8884 3 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I always considered this game in many ways about struggling against depression: Termina could not possibly seem more bleak and doomed, and every reset as you go back in time only makes that more pronounced... and yet, Link struggles on anyway, and with every cycle, he gains a bit more progress towards saving Termina. And, the ending shows that none of what he did to help everyone in each cycle was for nothing: for just one example, it doesn't matter in which cycle you complete the Anju & Kafei sidequest; you just have to complete it in a cycle, and the end credits will show Anju & Kafei's wedding. I honestly think that people saying that this game is good because it's depressing are missing the point; that the game is all about defying that depression and struggling on no matter how bleak things may seem.
@matthewmuir8884
@matthewmuir8884 3 жыл бұрын
@@davidandersson7642 I don't think so. Link's Awakening, yes, but not Majora's Mask. Majora's Mask is depressing with just how bleak everything seems to be and with each cycle-reset seemingly undoing Link's progress while hammering in how hopeless it all seems... and yet, Link struggles on, and in doing so, he brings hope to all these people who are without it, and the victory over the mask is a real victory; nothing you did was actually futile, as it all mattered in the end. If you just see the game as depressing and hopeless and about futility, then I honestly think that's missing the point: Link's struggle and actions weren't futile in the end, and that no matter how bleak things were, it could be overcome.
@They_are_Arthur
@They_are_Arthur 4 жыл бұрын
Seeing Yahtzee dislike Link's usual portrayal is like getting beat over the head with a metal bat. In some games it's ridiculous how much the people around him like him, but in most cases, it's circumstance and his general heroic attitude which hearkens back to more classic hero stories. That being said, I love the way Link is barely looked at by most people in Majora's Mask. Really makes Termina feel even more uneasy.

Sneezee Burgg Well, when talking Skyrim, even though i havent played trough the main missions, despitie my 100+ hours in game, i dont see any implications for a "need for change". Since you are the deciding factor in the war between the stormclocks and the imperials, the war isnt really "moving" before you jump in. True about the dragons though, but we do see dragon attacks on citys now and then. And while it is a little bit weird that nobody does anything about the dungeons full of bandits and vampires, there is a war going on, plus dragons and stuff, so i guess there is meaning behind that too. This is only skyrim though. In Far Cry, you are pretty much right that something like a timer would be good, but then again, the camps (is that what its called? i havent played it myself, only seen a friend do it) you actually do conquer are attack back, and there is no "need" for a rescue here and now. I mean, they have carried on for many a year now, they wouldnt have trouble with a few months more. I cant really say for the other games, since i havent played them.

When I was a kid there was a competition in a nintendo magazine to win a nintendo 64, to win you had to design a power up for mario and they said they would send the best ideas to nintendo. I came up with the masks of the other characters to give mario their abilities, for example the Lakitu mask would allow mario to climb previously invisible "air blocks" to unreachable places. I drew mario wearing each of the masks separately on A3 sheets of paper and was really proud of them. I didn't win though, the winner did a space suit. Zenith Tempest. You can't help everyone, but you can come close! In the case of time overlapping, I'd usually prioritize. For example: I'd let the bomb shop lady get robbed so I could save Romani and the ranch. Too much thought put into the well being of fictional characters? Yes. But it sure did make a satisfying final three-day run!

I did that too. I was in such a rush as I realized I had to get to Romani fast, while still fighting a boss, to fix the region. When I arrived the music was already playing and I had to shoot a ghost that was right in front of the ... Scheune (don't know what it is called in english ... that thing where Romani and the cows were in) from the entrance of Romani Ranch. I was so satisfied to still have saved her :)

I think the main reason why I like Yahtzee so much is because he see's right through the bullshit of the video game industry. The industry, at the moment, has done a bang-up job of rehashing and retelling stories with the same mechanics, same archetypes, same tropes, etc. That's why a lot of his reviews don't even touch on some game's positive aspects: Because for most games, the negatives have begun to outweigh the good. I feel like Yahtzee has made me a bit more cynical though, in that now I cant help but see every little flaw in a video game, and weighing them against the things I like. However, at least I understand that the video game industry needs some help. Badly. A few good games isn't going to wash off the caked on shit of the rest.

This comment was generally geared towards all of his videos, since I really cant leave a comment like this on his actual profile page. I mean, it wouldn't get that many views either way. No. I've been seeing a lot of comments towards his videos saying they don't like him focusing on the negatives. That's why I wrote what I said. I was actually going to add another small paragraph about how even though this video isn't all about the negatives, he found a game that has more positives. (Or at least enough to talk about in a four minute span.) So maybe, I should have wrote more to explain myself to simpletons like yourself, but I already thought it was too lengthy. if you want to get more story line and a more satisfying ending, I recommend completing the bomber's notebook. I found it very satisfying when I played the game on N64, both as a kid and years later as an adult. The individual story lines add a lot of depth to the world and you become invested in the people living in it. Of course the incentive for doing this is all the heartpieces/masks/bottles/handjobs you're rewarded with, but the real payout is that at the end of the game you see a cut seen of everyone's story you completed showing how you improved their lives. The wedding brought tears to my eyes.

"It's almost a metaphor for the futility of existence." That's exactly why the game is so good though. It's depressing knowing that no matter what you do, you can't help everyone because there isn't enough time to do so (plus in the case of Anju and Kafei, you need to be in certain areas at certain times and it disallows you from helping other people at the same time), and you'll run out of time anyway and have to reset. As someone who's supposed to be a hero, it's even worse knowing that no matter how heroic you choose to be, you STILL won't be able to help everyone. On top of that, the ending shows that the first mask you get was actually from the soul of the deku butler's dead son, who you couldn't have saved at all anyway, in addition to the lives of Darmani and Mikau that you weren't able to save and had to act in their stead to save their people (and they were basically heroes that failed in their quest). Then you have the villain, who was basically just a dumb kid who had a hard life and just wanted to have friends, who got possessed by an evil that he didn't understand and couldn't control. And of course, lets not forget about Ikana canyon and the whole symbolism of Stone Tower Temple and what happened there. GAH, SO MANY GREAT STORY ELEMENTS! I like the gameplay of it and the design of the world and the boss fights (except the original Gyorg but I digress), but it's really how dark the story is that makes this game so special.

When you time travel, you lose all items that you can find or buy, including rupees, though banking those will allow you to keep them, and mandatory/special/most collectable items, like masks, bottles, heart pieces, and the ocarina are kept. And unlike the original, you don't get to save when time traveling. You can only save at owl statues, but on the bright side, they are now permanent, YAAAAAAY! And there's book statues that also allow you to save, with the only difference being that you can't teleport to them. Also, funny story! I had a whopping 9 or so hearts at the final boss because I either couldn't be buggered to get the heart pieces, or I just didn't know how to. I also didn't have the deity mask, nor did I know that I would have an easier time if I JUST USED THE TRANSFORMATION MASKS, DAAAAH!

On the subject of reading too much into the game or not, one must note that Majora's Mask was largely written by Yoshiaki Koizumi, which is important because he's Nintendo's secret narrative depth guy. Secret is literal too, he enjoys deep storytelling and confessed in interview to sneaking deeper plots into his games via subtext and metaphor because his bosses, often Miyamoto, rejected complex storytelling outright. Miyamoto was later confronted with this revelation and was understandably shocked. So there is a theory that Majora's Mask is actually about Link being dead, and Nintendo's official position is that it's not. But, Yoshiaki Koizumi, so we can guarantee that regardless of what Nintendo says there is certainly more to it than the very surface level, because the surface level is what he's hiding the storytelling from.

My only major issue with Majora's Mask (other than the three day cycle imo making everything more tedious.) is that it's the only zelda game where you fail no matter what you do. It wasn't the case when it came out but hyrule hystoria confirmed that link being sent back in time creates an alternate time line (It doesn't undo anything) so everyone except for link and tatl dies several times over while link tries to save his own ass. (In my case it was probably more like 60 times because I was a kid and the wedding mask quest is hundreds of times more annoying than the water temple in OoT) In the end link only saves him self (and Tatl though that's probably just cause she's never more than a foot away from you) but he never saves any of the people he sets out to. In fact he creates multiple timelines and makes more people die then needed. If link gives up at the start at most only 1/4 the amount of people will die compared to the multiple timelines you leave to die in the story.
@tesnacloud
@tesnacloud 7 жыл бұрын
If that were the logic the game was actually using, then you would get to keep your bombs and arrows when you went back in time. Link is using powerful magic to create a static time loop series that he then collapses into a single series of events at the end of the game. Thus he forces the events to play out how he wants them to.
@danteglory95
@danteglory95 7 жыл бұрын
tesnacloud except you still get to keep the main items like your bow so that point kinda falls apart pretty fast. If everything restarted then he should lose everything. It's weird he loses the items but it's no more illogical than the fact that Link learned the song of storms from the man he taught it to in OoT. Link is using the ocarina of time to travel back just like zelda used it to send him back at the end of OoT which doesn't restart the timeline it separates it in two. I'm sure they meant for it to just be restarting everything but using the same means of travel as in ocarina of time kinda implies the same outcome. And while I'm on the topic why is link affected by travel at all? Everyone else is reset and has no memory of what happened but link keeps his memory but loses some items and keeps others. Even if he is restarting the world that doesn't make any sense. Either he would be affected like everyone else or he isn't at all cause he was the one who time traveled. Whether he's restarting the timeline or splitting it losing some items while keeping others makes no sense to me. I know he needs to keep the items for progression and I might just be over thinking it but it bugs me logically.

They were to afraid to change ocarina of time for fear of pissing off the die hard fans. Meanwhile majoras mask did not get the same treatment. Some of the changes were for the better but i really could have done without that unskippable text box that pops up every time you stumble upon a side quest. He also likes how the majority of the game doesnt treat link like some gary stu save-THE-world-lick-my-coochie type guy that npcs usually treat him as. His list of cons are of course, the gameplay aspects leaves some things to be desired. In all likelihood, they suffered from "Mass Effect Syndrome", where they had initially intended one thing but ended up having to cut/change it, leaving all the foreshadowing and themes in the game. The timeline was decided after the game had come out, so it is quite possible they intended to have Majora's Mask be the end of The Hero of Time. But by putting Twilight Princess in that timeline, messed up the original vision.

Everyone saw the Game Theory about Majora's Mask right? How the game's plot actually symbolizes the Link's death? If not go watch it! Even if it isn't true it's one of the most interesting Game Theories I've seen!

The targeting is great, you're just really bad at it for some reason. It's annoying when people who are just not good at something blame it on poor design.

Why is everyone always shitting on Nintendo and their usage of franchises, while we get new CoD, Battelfields, Final Fantasies, Halos, Assassins Creeds, FNAFFs, Resident Evils, Street Fighters etc. all the time? If you hate the concept of "milking" a franchise, then don't hate only one company for doing it, while licking the balls of every other company that does that...

ohh, i wasnt aware yahtzee licked the balls of any of the franchises you mentioned, in fact, i have yet to see ANYONE disliking the concept of milking in the selectively/hypocritical manner you suggested

Seven Sete Well you see people complain all the time about Nintendo only, while no word is said about any other company, which makes it selectiv, does it not?

GamerChannelOne No, it doesnt. Absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence. Just because you have not *seen* someone complaing about other companies here _(Why would they? This is a video about a _*_nintendo_*_ game after all)_ it doesnt mean that these people agree with the policies of said companies.

Yatzee, play fire emblem awakening. You hate japan anime Nintendo and all the jrpg giant hair crap right? And you hate nintendo's repedative sequels offering the same game many times? Then play fire emblem Awakening, I don't think you've reviewed this Nintendo game before. I presuppose you'll hate it to hell, but I wonder what you would think say about the game! :D -A Scum of the earth 3ds owner

William Cornett I'd recommend FE7 or the FE 1 DS remake instead. Most of the old FE fans don't like Awakening for not having much of a plot after Gangrel dies/its easy outside Lunatic mode because Nosferatu and Tharja are busted.

I think Majora's Mask works so well because the majority of the puzzles are actually solved outside the game, which compliments the story and tone. It's up to the player to figure out how best to tackle the quests within the time limit (and how to trigger certain quests in order to beat new quests). The game is literally a giant clockwork world that you gain mastery over simply by immersing yourself in it. The dungeons are actually really straightforward once you mentally map them (this is especially necessary for the Great Bay Temple, a dungeon I always had reverence for). This means you can pretty quickly traverse them on subsequent runthroughs to find fairies and things, because your mental map doesn't get reset when the cycle does. So the game is doing double duty, and the only way to win is by becoming invested in the lives and schedules of these characters and spaces, at which point the mechanics reveal the game's broader theme: you'll never save these people that you've spent all this time becoming invested in. Sure, you can save them from the apocalypse or solve some of their problems on the final runthrough, but ultimately you need to accept that the world is just too big to save everyone, and that's a gut-punch of a way to build a game.

I wholeheartedly recommend you to complete all the Bomber's Notebook sidequest. It's fun and worthed and actually opens up the "true" message of the game, as there are several dialogs that explore this. it's a beautiful magic trick you may want to experience. Spoiler alert: it isn't "hey, that's life 🤷🏻‍♂️"

Agreed. There's a thousand games where I can be an unlikeable anti-hero with a stupid body count, so the game developer can preach about how much they hate their life and their parents. Let me play a character who just genuinely likes making other people happy, and actually has a chance to do so and be rewarded for it, without Ayn Rand's fan club crying about how offended they are.

Well Yatzhee. I might be old but I remember the Bomber's Notebook (side quest galore tracker) and it's explained that its whole existence is the heart of the game. Why should you finish 1 or all side quest? Well, you end with an everlasting friendship... and a ribbon. See... yeah time resets sure and several characters ponder about the meaningless of your actions - Skull Kid, specially - BUT (and its a big Fucking BUT - jiggle jiggle - for all of us rabbid fans of this game above OoT or ToK or the edgy my cousins love) it's explained in the Notebook instructions and in some side quests, that Termina's habitants DO remember at the bottom of their hearts all the good you did for them, they are just stock in Hell Loop of forced forgetness... Soooooo, once you finish the whole damn notebook, you are rewarded with a full credit scene with all the happy endings you created with your actions in the game. The whole credits scene recontextualize your efforts into something meaningful (yeah, friendship is the true princess in this castle AhA!), and you also tear up like a madman. So No. your complain will not stand. You need to apologize to all of us Majora's lovers over a completionist charity marathon of Majora's. A pleasure rectifiyng the universe. cha cha!

This review makes it pretty evident why this version of Link became the Hero's Shade in Twilight Princess XD Regardless it's my favorite Zelda game/game of all time. And I liked it back when everyone hated it :P The remake made some tweaks. Some I liked (i,e, FISHING and changes in the boss battles), one glaring one (Zora Link's swimming is only fast when he uses the barrier thus draining the magic meter). Still decent though :P

Wow...all these reasons are why I HATED Majora's Mask. I feel like I'm not accomplishing anything. People's lives stay fucked over while my backpack gets heavier and my wallet gets fatter. Then I have the compulsion to try and fix the problems I fixed before because it feels like the proper hero thing to do. There are games where you can be a dick to people and that's fine... But Link is a hero. It's on his business card. Besides, chances are this is all just some delusion brought on by a head injury. Why else would everyone look like people he knows?
