Excellent playing and great video!! Cesar was a friend of mine. We'd hang out when he'd visit here where he was born (San Juan, P.R.). He made me and signed a Texas Ranger. He explained it as booster with selectable freq. (Hi, mid, low). I loved the stories of his adventures with Dylan, SRV and the rest. I believe even George Harrison. I regret that I ordered an amp made for me but I had to cancel due to my financial issues. Of course he was pissed. I would have only paid $1000 at the time. Now I would like to find one as a tribute to Cesar.

Man that was great!! I remember when these first came out back sometime in the mid or late 90s I think. I was looking for a good fuzz back then and almost nabbed one of these kind of wish I would have now. Just seen the price of the only one on eBay right now and it's obviously way out of reach. Nonetheless you've definitely got Stevie's / Phillip's and Jimi's tone nailed for sure, but not just with the pedals and the amps Etc but with your playing. There was a time after Stevie's death that I thought I would never hear anyone else capture what he had done. And now there are quite a few out there. Between Tommy Katona Philip Sayce Matthew Scott and yourself I'm sure there are others that I haven't mentioned. It's just such a pleasure to see someone else out there carrying this music on. Very few out there, that understand that there is a definite science if you will to achieving this type of playing and tone, and its evident youve done your homework. If you're not already you should be gigging or touring at the least. I truly dig every single video that you guys have put out. Thank you so much it is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the video man ! It's a bit complicated where I'm based (France) to find a Cesar Diaz Texas Ranger. And I don't even talk about the price of these little box nowaday. Anyway. I bought a Homestead Undertaker, wich is basically a clone of the Texas Ranger. I'm happy with it but I don't know, when I listen to Philip's one, yours, or Richie P. videos where he's playing a Texas R, it's clear that the Undertaker is a bit... less savage and full, I don't know how to say it. I wish one day I'll find an 'affordable' Texas Ranger ! Thanks for the video again man ! Cheers

The fact that these pedals tend to vary so much in performance and change from one build to the next would stop me from every buying any of them at the prices they're at now. Essentially they're hyped because Cesar worked on Stevie's amp and fuzz pedals. Much like Tube Screamers are silly priced today if they're 'vintage' even though Maxon (and Ibanez via Maxon) builds the exact same pedal today for $99

More than lightly at this stage if you buy one it might not have the best tone because someone else has sorted through them and picked the best of them unless youre a major collector buying muiltables to sort you might not have much luck or if you can even find one, why do they not re release them if they did so well in memory of the man. Yes I'm aware of peddalpawn because of you Nick totally enjoy you're history walkthrough of gear even do I can't afford it a second hand peddal same price as a mex strat crazy. Sounds class do in the write hands could you put new resistors in the peddal if it didn't sound good is it because they have worn. Is this why one pedal sounds different to the other when they are the same peddal?

Idk about Cesar (and I'm remiss to disagree with such a legend) but I'm with Nik. I struggle finding bridge pickups I like in Strats and for years kept putting "overwound" pickups in the bridge (usually around 8.5k and I've tried as hot as 11k). Now, crazy as it may or may not sound, I buy vintage Mustang/Music Master neck pickups that are about 5.7k and put them in the bridge position on my Strats. Sorry, I know you're looking for a response from Nik, I just figured I'd chime in. 🤘👍

@@enkiea8322 wow thanks for your answer, I have some fat 50 fender in my strat, but I also have some cs 69 saved and these have less resistance than the fat 50, maybe you try them and leave only the fat50 on the neck, do you think it would be good? or change all?
@enkiea8322
@enkiea8322 5 жыл бұрын
@@emanuelbaa1560 Nah, I'd stick with the matching set of Fat 50's unless you switch them all out for cs 69's. You can't go wrong either way im my opinion. The Fat 50's and the cs 69's both sound good to me and I have Strats with both. That said, a matching set of low output (5.6k-6.3k) single coils I think sounds "right" on a Strat. Low height, real down low near the pickguard. To be clear, when I say output should be low to high from bridge to neck, I don't mean "put an overwound pickup at the neck." I just mean, if I have 3 single coils and their readings let's say are 5.7k, 6k and 6.3k, I'd put the 5.7 in the bridge and the 6.3 in the neck. Again, none of this gospel. It's all about trying different stuff cuz everything does sound different, one part to the next. Just like these Diaz pedals. If you can solder, then screw it, try whatever you got. Switch um every week until you find what's best to you. But if you'll need to take the guitar to a tech, stick with the Fat 50's cause they really are good. Especially if your Strat's body is a nice, resonant one.
