I don't understand why (well, maybe I do...$$) why Wargaming keeps putting out Premium versions of ships, that are basically superior to the tech-tree version of that same ship. It's the same issue with the Jean Bart and the Richelieu. Why would anyone run the Rich when they can just run the Bart, and make Premium Earnings, while having essentially the same vessel / experience ? And here it's even worse - with Leningrad a straight upgrade to the poor Minsk...

couldn't disagree with you more, and here is why, premium ships are different, not better, the Leningrad suffer from slower guns and worst gun handling than the Minsk which is a straight-up gunboat, the JB has bad dispersion compared to the Richelieu. they are not superior to the tech tree versions they are however different and have there pros and cons.

I wouldn’t refer to it as “the poor Minsk.” I like it. Think it’s a... good ship. Maybe not a super useful or effective ship, but I like it. I’d say it is superior to the Minsk, but I don’t think you’ll find too many instances of premiums with tech tree counterparts being “better” than those tech tree counterparts. They’re mostly, as The Hive Hound here points out, different. I agree with him that the Jean Bart has worse dispersion than the Richelieu. I’ll also point out, as an example, that the Scharnhorst has MUCH smaller guns than the Gneisenau. So there are reasons to play the tech tree counterparts over the premiums.

@TheHive_Hound. Don’t know that the Leningrad has worse gun handling than the Minsk. Its base traverse speed is 27 seconds and the Minsk’s is 30 if I’m not incorrect. However... the accuracy on the Leningrad’s guns seems to be worse than the Minsk’s. So you could make that case.

@@Xarkun you got it spot on there its the accuracy that suffers on the lenin making the balance between gunboat and torps.

@@Xarkun You both make some sound counter-points. I guess what I meant (in the case of Minsk) is that it's much harder to have as big an impact on a match in a Minsk (imho) as it would be in most of the other Tier-6 DD's. I think T-Bull joked recently that if you gave him a million dollar challenge, to pick one Destroyer and go into a random battle and if he Won - he'd get the million...the Minsk would probably be his last choice. Now...he still can make it work, as can you Xarkun (and many others, of course) -- and I've even had a few decent matches with her... but I just feel you have to work extra hard, compared to what you can do - relatively easier - in something like a Benson, which has excellent guns, and 9.1 km Torps to keep smoke cloud foes honest, and be a viable direct threat to BB's, later in the match. Plus detection isn't 'awful' in that ship either (certainly better than the Russian line).
