I played drums in a heavy Metal band from 1981 til 1985 and when I heard the first Iron Maiden album, Clive Burr completely blew my mind! Then Killers came out and it remains my favorite Metal album album to this day. Clive Burr's performance on the debut album and Killers is unbelievable. We played 6 Maiden tunes, and learning those songs was the biggest challenge, but I couldn't believe how much better I got after learning how to play a song like Killers or Innocent Exile. I was so bummed when they replaced him with Niko. There best record to me is Killers, and Clive Burr had a lot to do with that. The drumming on that album is soooooooo good! RIP Clive Burr.
@RockbertoRocks4 ай бұрын
Exactly my thoughts... Clive inspired me to play at a different level. He made MAIDEN powerful. I was destroyed when I didn't see him on POM. KIllers is also my favorite old school metal album. And still to this day not many drummer can play Wrathchild with that single powerful right hand. Nico always ruined that song IMHO

from what i've seen in Iron Maiden documentaries Steve Harris seems like he is a fair guy but he is driven and wasn't afraid to take difficult decisions in the early days of IM, many band members came and went, the tour schedule they had back in the 80s was intense, even Bruce said he thought of quitting due to exhaustion.

Agree to that. Nicko is a funny clown/joker in the band. Thats his main role. His playing is good ofcourse but the bit of “extra” he is supplying to the band is the clowny funny bit instead of “extra” technical brilliance

I haven’t really listened to much of Iron Maiden’s work but I honestly think they’re a force of nature. And drummers astonish me. Run To The Hills I do know well. As an aside have you heard the Abba/Iron Maiden mash up? It’s actually amazing. It uses ABBA’s song Eagle. I’m a massive Abba fan and seeing this mash up was so much fun. And believable! I was 14 when #OTB came out in '82, when I was just beginning to form my own taste in music besides that which I heard on the radio (other than KISS, and my buddies older sister had Black Sabbath Master Of Reality on 8 track and we played the hell out of that at 10 years old in '77 though!) . A classmate loaned me the #OTB and it blew me away! That album, and Priest's Screaming For Vengeance kickstarted my lifelong journey into the world of heavy metal. I loved Clive's drumming. My first concert was the Powerslave tour at 16, and it was a shame that I didn't get to see Clive play live! May he RIP!
