Learn how to ride this board - • How to Win an eFoil Ra...
The high-end performance Lift4 Pro 4'2" board is lighter, more powerful, and so deadly silent it is almost creepy. Verdant Ride tests the new board with a 32" mast, LCS system, and a various combos of Camber Pro 160 Front, 36 Glide Rear, 100 Surf Front, and 38 Carve Rear.
Yes a complete review will be coming soon after I've tried all the new wing combos and had a chance to test the range & ride time of the newly updated battery packs.
For those who love wakeboarding, this is as close as it gets without a boat, driver, truck trailer,, lift, board, bindings, Cincher Gloves, extensive joint injuries, rope, crew, petrol, winterization/summarization maintenance, or committing acts of environmental insanity.

Loved the last paragraph of your description. I would add that efoiling has the longest season in water activities. I went out December 31st last year and back in March in a dry suit on Lake George, NY. As long as there’s no wind and in the 30’s.

No envy needed. You'll pick it up fast and be carving deep shreds soon enough. My advice would be to find the type of surfing that makes you happy. I'm a super technical rider addicted to feeling G's with each turn on skis, snowboards, and wakeboards, but there are riders I see that look more like poets and soul-surfers having just as much if not more fun on their eFoils. The way I ride was simply what I discovered worked for me, find what works for you. The cool thing about a sport this new is that none of us have a prototype for the "right way," to do this. We're all going to be evolving our own methods and I'm really looking forward to watching a diverse set of rider styles develop in the coming years.

@@likethetoffee If that's what you love than eFoiling is the only sport I know of that can constantly deliver that feel for extended periods of time without hassle or waiting for a chairlift or the next wave. When people complain about the prices of an eFoil I just look at what I to pay to spend a week carving snow in Vail or any other LARGE ski mountain and I gotta say, my eFoil is a freak'n bargain and I can't think any mountain that has ever allowed me 33 minutes of uninterrupted carving.

I’ve finally been able to do dry dock starts on the 4’2”. Back foot in the middle and front foot up along the front edge of the footpad. While sitting apple a small amount of power to get the motor started. As soon as possible get the left hand over the nose and add power quick and obviously “lean more forward!!”. I’m 180 lbs with the 160 Camber Pro front wing and the 32 rear wing. Lake George, NY with a 4’2” Lift3, a 4’2” Lift4 and a 4’9” Lift4. Added a blowfish accessory for helping new riders too. You should really come up and cruise the most most beautiful lake in the country. You’re always welcome to crash.

100 surf or 160 camber? I’m running the 4’2 with the 200 surf currently. Want a speed upgrade.
@VerdantRide
@VerdantRide Жыл бұрын
Currently my preference is the 100 Surf and 36" Glide. I suspect that most people will prefer the Camber Pro because it is way more stable and still pretty agile. I'm addicted to speed, carves and feeling the G's so anything larger than the 100 feels like I'm dragging 10lbs of seaweed. Unless you've been foiling 3x per day for 2+ years, get the smallest camber you think your body weight can fly. The 100 Surf is pretty wicked and faster than most of my friends want to go.

@@VerdantRide thanks for the response haven’t decided yet. We also have the HA 170. Works well in calm conditions but has a strange flex and vibrations with any swell in the water. Getting some mast flex as well. It also has a delayed turn where you angle over first, then feel the Gs. The 200 surf carves much better, more like a snowboard but does push more water. My brother and I both fight over who gets to ride the 200 surf. How does preferred 36 glide trail compare to the 38 surf v2 or 32 glide v2 we are currently running? Any experience with these?

@@methanesprings4085 So when I ride the 36 Glide, and all the glide stabs for that matter, the thing I notice most is that banking feels more analog than digital. I think that the upturned tips help the tail slide a little more than the straight stabs. It kinda feels like smearing snow with a snowboard, if that makes sense. For the record I own a 26 Glide and the 36 Glide. The 26 is really slippery I never feel stable on it unless I'm doing at least 26mph. The 36 glide is a dream.

@@methanesprings4085 I do not like any of the HA I've tied. They might be great for surfing waves on unpowered hydrofoils, but in my experience they cannot handle the front load weight of an eFoil

Which one is better to take for a beginner, 4’2” or 4’9”?
@VerdantRide
@VerdantRide Жыл бұрын
Ok this is a bit of a tough question but I'll give it a whack… OK… Learning to ride is MUCH easier on a larger board. I started on a LIFT2 5.0 Sport and I could have started on the smaller 4.2 Pro. I have a a lot of experience surfing, wakeboarding, skiing, snowboarding and pretty much all other sports where riding a boards on your feet is a thing. If you are taking a lesson, you'll have an easier time on a larger board and most trainers use 4.9 or larger boards with big wings. Great for learning but when it comes to owning, well, you will only be a beginner for a couple of weeks and then you'll wish you had a smaller board because once you are up and riding they are just WAY better if you want to ride for the carves and feel the G's. I find riding straight and slow boring. I might as well be on a SUP if I ride the way most videos online depict eFoiling. I wanted to replace my wakeboard and boat and I essentially did with my 4.2 pro boards. Keep in mind I'm on a lake 95% of the time with mostly flat water. So I ride to carve. In the ocean, I ride differently and like catching waves and touring to different places. It is a much different purpose. In the ocean, I'm exploring. At home, I'm riding for thrills.. I suspect that most people will either progress to a much more aggressive riding style on their home turf or they'll gradually just abandon the sport. Riding the way you see in the promos from Lift, is only fun to do when learning and once you master popping up and riding steady, its as easy as standing on a raft. If that's your idea of fun then I suppose you'll keep enjoying standing like a statue on board. So I'm happy with all the boards I own because my friends all use my old boards and ride with me on the weekends and my larger board is much better for training newbies than my pro boards, but if I were only ever going to own and ride one board for the next 5 years, well, then I'd really only be satisfied with the Pro. So if you are dedicated to being a skilled and aggressive rider, I'd start with a Pro 4.2 board, 32" mast, 150 Surf V2 wing 38 Carve stab (or 36 Glide stab if you already have decent board skills and balance) and get the full range battery. I think that setup is going to make you happy for your first year and provide a decent amount of stability for learning while giving you a tase of what a decent carve feels like. Then when you feel like you are ready for more, get a 100 Surf V2 front wing which will allow you to go 5mph faster and carve 20% deeper while maintaining the G's needed to keep your feet stuck on the board.. Deep carves need lots more speed and smaller wings allow you to turn faster and loose less speed when you bank. When I trade boards with intermediate-expert riders, they all love my board and are blown away with agility and LOVE it. I on the other hand are hating life on their 4.9's that feels like trying to surf riding a canoe in comparison. I hope that advice. helps.

What is your average speed when carving?
@VerdantRide
@VerdantRide Жыл бұрын
I pull off the half-mile in 55 seconds. My max speed on the straightaways is just under 34 MPH so that means that my slowest turns are probably around 23.8 MPH to hit that time at the finish line. My WaterSpeed app uses GPS to figure out my speed so I'm not sure how accurate it is when accelerating and decelerating.

How does it lack?
@Fluterra
@Fluterra Жыл бұрын
@@VerdantRide Where to begin? I guess the mess of wires and cooling tubes that Lift still uses. Second, one look at the wing/foil design tells you how far more sophisticated Fliteboard's shapes are. It's as if Lift uses a piece of paper and Flite designs in 3D. Third, the Lift controller looks ridiculous! Why so large? Bizarre. Like it was launched in the 90s.
@VerdantRide
@VerdantRide Жыл бұрын
@@Fluterra I think Flite's biggest design advantage is low-mounted prop and wings do get a bit more range in travel before breeching. I think you are off base on the rest of it. I don't really care how many wires are inside the box as they never give me any issues, or get in the way, or break. If it needed 10 times more wires go give the ride it provides, I wouldn't care. These things are inside the compartment and not part of the ride. The controller lasts all season on a single AA battery, is rugged as hell, and has tons of range in the throttle. Flite's feels more like an ON/OFF button than a throttle. Feels like playing Mario Kart. I think that the required inspection overhaul Flite requires is expecting way to much of an owner to comply with too.
@Fluterra
@Fluterra Жыл бұрын
@@VerdantRide There is no “required inspection” for Fliteboard. That’s fake news and I agree that the company doesn’t do a good job at dispelling it. I have read the manual and the fine print, there is NO mention that warranty will be affected if you don’t service it. Service interval is 100 hours, which I think is quite long and fair. The controller is not meant to have a throttle, and is meant to be an on/off… Glad you like your Lift, that’s the main thing. If there were no Fliteboard, I don’t think I would have bought the Lift - may sound odd, but the Lift does nothing for my right brain…
@VerdantRide
@VerdantRide Жыл бұрын
@@Fluterra Maybe Flite would do a better job of "dispelling the fake news." by not posting the warranty requirements so clearly on their website. support.fliteboard.com/hc/en-us/articles/1500003036022-Series-1-2-2-2-Warranty-6-month-or-50HR-service Here it is in black&tope, right here on Flite's website… "IMPORTANT: The Fliteboard Limited Warranty may be void if your Fliteboard has missed the required service schedule."
