The reason why the "rumors" are important is because it gives context for her abuse growing up. She was exploited by her mother who used her job to get access to things (like cars and houses) to boost Lil' Tay's image. Her older brother also contributed to this by recording and telling Tay what to say in videos. This actually happened it's not a rumor. Her mom got fired from that job and lost custody of Tay, who then began living with her father.

I recently saw Nick at an Olive Garden near me when I went took my grandma out for her birthday. I immediately knew it was him from the hat. What sad about this whole thing is that many are still blaming her (yes, her as in LIL TAY and not THE PARENTS/BRO) and says she pranks the whole world. Like, I get if you're 14 and wants to prank someone. But I don't think any 14 year old would think "hey, I wanna prank the whole world by thinking I died"
