I think this video was the perfect example of how to joke about something while still taking it seriously. Sometimes when men make videos about incels or just generally creepy dudes it feels insensitive. Like they laugh at how ridiculous these guys are but it doesn’t feel as silly to watch as a woman when you’ve actually experienced these things.
@LnRit023 жыл бұрын
strong agree. i will also say it gets so tiring to watch how many male commentary youtubers milk “alpha male” or pua content for cheap cringe laughs, because when they don’t offer any real commentary about the underlying social problems that make that genre of content popular, it feels like they’re just trying to pander to their predominantly female audiences. as though to say, “thank god i’m not like THOSE men. i RESPECT women because i’m not CRINGE like these losers haha.” It’s low hanging fruit, and it often reads as performative for clicks and brownie points imo, but it WORKS and I see so many girls eating it up bc the bar is truly so low. there are SO many videos that feel like that, from like...BIG creators. and even if they come from a place of good intentions, they don’t bother to talk seriously about 1) the internet culture that breeds this kind of thinking/behavior among lonely young men and preys on them for money and 2) how exhausting and dehumanizing it is to experience the impact of that culture as a woman. drew did a great job here balancing the humor with genuine talking points, which was refreshing to see.
@kaeemproductions3 жыл бұрын
@@LnRit02 @paytinii you both hit the nail on the head with these comments. it's not funny when its weaponized against you and your entire gender... incels aren't just harmless "haha" virgins, but a genuine threat. women get murdered for just turning a dude down, and its these types of dudes who do it. when you reduce women to an object to be won, not even having her own thoughts and feelings, it doesn't just fester online but gets dragged into face-to-face interactions too.
@worstusernameintheworld98713 жыл бұрын
I'm glad to finally see a comment that is so accurate to what I've been thinking this entire time. In fact, I was kinda iffy at first about watching Drew's video because I thought it would be just another "haha incel weird" video but it was actually really informative and points out the issue all while cracking actually funny jokes for once. Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against the dudes making content about "alpha/sigma/omegaverse" whatnot, but as a girl, it's very nice to hear from someone who understands (or at least can mostly sympathize with) how bad the situation actually is, because these "alphas" are not funny, they're horrifying. just a random reply as to why i really like Drew's content, I like his balance of humor and information. :)
@socialworksucks33333 жыл бұрын
Agree with all these comments in this thread. Part of what stuck out to me in this video that felt different was essentially the language used for calling out the mentality/behaviors for what they actually are...i.e. predatory, sexual harassment, disrespect/no regard for a woman’s autonomy, etc. Not just “this alpha male is a joke, this guy is ridiculous...” type of commentary. Like no, the language we use is important. These “pick up artists” and the rhetoric they push is actively harmful, dangerous, demeaning. Constantly playing off the whole “alpha/beta/sigma/whatever” concept as solely a joke downplays the severity.

I use to work with this girl who was the sweetest person I ever met. I liked how she treated people and how she could have genuine sympathy for someone she never met before. I admired her when she was going through a hard time and grieving the loss of family, how she could stay so determined and strong. Without trying, she made me want to be a better person and see the world how she saw it, because the world seemed to be a better place to her. One day after work I asked her if she wanted to go out to eat with me, and she gave me the spill that she wasn't interested in dating anyone she worked with and that she wanted to spend time out of a relationship for a while and she had a lot of stuff going on. I told her that I understood completely and just left it at that. It sucked. I was pretty disappointed, but I didn't treat her differently at work, and we didn't make it awkward. We just kept being friendly coworkers until one day after work she approached me and asked if I still happened to be interested in getting dinner some time. She told me that she hadn't stopped thinking about me asking her out, and how when she turned me down, I respectfully accepted her response and didn't hold it against her. We dated for several years and we're about to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary soon. I know all situations and people are different. But I think a lot of dudes problem when talking to women and asking them out is taking rejection personally. If you really like her and think highly of her, you wouldn't get angry if she respectfully turned you down.

True, honestly when men say that only 99% of the time they're being honest. They don't actually want women without makeup they just don't want women that look caked up because how much make up they're wearing. They want the no make up look, where you look like you're not wearing make up but at the same time you are.

That's exactly why no pick up "artist" has any value to society in my eyes. If you see a woman for the very first time in a Walmart buying Doritos, there's no reason at all to talk to her beyond "she looks hot, I want to bang her". Trying a pick up line on any human being in a grocery store is objectifying by default. If a guy reads this and wants some genuine advice for a conversation opener: think about the reasons why you want to date her. Are there any reasons you would tell your mother? No? Don't even try it. Yes? Just go for it. Be nice, show a healthy amount of confidence and respect her wishes. That's it.

I've had so many try it's ridiculous. Scariest was one where he followed me, and then chased me out into the parking lot. Thankfully, I was faster than him, and got in my car, locked my doors, and laid on the horn. Scared him enough for him to run away. Then of course, less scary, more creepy, when guys use some bullshit line in the store- or my FAVORITE(sarcasm), when I'm trapped at a gas pump pumping gas- and I respond with "I'm very happily married, leave me alone" and their response? Either "that doesn't bother me if it doesn't bother you" or even worse "so am I, who cares?" 😳 What in the FUCK is wrong with these creeps! My good guy friend plays Pokemon Go, and one day we were talking about it. I told him I used to until there were reports women were getting raped at high traffic areas, so I stopped. He went off on this tangent that those guys prolly were just in those areas looking to rape anyhow. Which sure, fair enough point, those were high traffic, public areas. But that's not the point. I told him, when he read those articles, at no point did he, as a 6 foot 2, completely shredded, grown ass man, worry about HIS safety playing Pokemon. I can't step out of my house without having to worry about someone hurting me. I have a tazer for walking my dog. I commute on a trolley for 30 mins, I carry pepper spray. I go to school downtown in a huge city. Lots of homeless. Lots of random strangers. Lots of places to grab someone. Life as a woman is genuinely terrifying. For most guys, their safety walking 2 blocks to school from their trolley stop, or playing Pokemon in a public park, is the last thing they would ever worry about. Meanwhile, I speed walk, desperately clutching my pepper spray, and avoid being alone in public when I can. Most guys will never understand. And so many of them make it WORSE by just randomly singleing out and approaching women who are all by themselves. I don't care if we are in the chip aisle. Coming up to me and all but cornering me and berating me with ur come ons is creepy, predatory, and TERRIFYING. These creeps will never learn! Don't approach women who are all alone! 😭

Youknow, in Dutch, the word for woman, female and wife is the same. And the word for husband, man and male is the same too. It's vrouw and man. If you get married, the only thing that changes is that instead of being 'een vrouw' (a woman/female) you are now 'his vrouw' and he will say; 'I am her man.' It's the one that you've picked to be yours and they have picked you to be theirs. If you really try to say husband or wife, you'd likely use the word echtgenoot/echtgenote which means "companion-who's-presence-I-enjoy in marriage." Our mothers teach us well. The problem is that the stupid minority of creepy men who treat women like objects are so loud and obvious and in your face at the supermarket that it starts to make girls think all men are like that. Yes there are alot of horrible creeps out there but I'm sure most men know better than to harass women. I know a girl that was harassed by two different men during one walk through the town center. It pissed her off so much and she ranted about awful and creepy and disgusting men are. Now don't get me wrong, I want those two guys buried for being such scum bags. But she also passed literally hundreds of men in town who didn't say or do anything wrong. Most men are basically nice. Not saints. But decent enough.
