There are many things out in the world humanity has yet to understand. Whether they be the shifts in our climate, what's below our feet, or the species that reside here on this rock with us, what's known for sure is, there is a lot left to learn. In the northern reaches of Maine, a species of reptile would be discovered. As it starts snacking on humans, a journalist and friend must figure out where its hunting before it disappears once more. But the question remains, where did it evolve from and what is it so dangerous? Lets discuss that in todays episode!

Anglerfish vary from about the size of a coffee cup to over 100 pounds. Some grow to over three feet long. Depending on the species, males may be just 1/10th the size of females. The largest anglerfish yet discovered are known as warty seadevils. Females of this species can reach up to three feet long, while males measure under an inch long.

People usually use the word "scream" for it, but horses' shrieking is a real thing... It isn't the worse sound they make, though. Squeals are what will scare the heck out of you, whether you're a nonhorseperson, or the owner, having a panic attack about wtf just happened to your horse. Just to keep life interesting, sometimes they'll do either, squeal or scream, when nothing bad at all is happening, but because they're super-excited.

The sea creatures that came from no where and they some how warmed up the earths crust to raise the ocean levels globally up by 30 feet so they could invade and eat surface dwelling creatures. From what I learned from your channel this creatures biology makes absolutely no sense for something they are selling as non paranormal and originated from earth. Any way love your channel it makes me question so many movie monsters

Resident of Maine here. I can guarantee unless the person lives in Portland or Augusta if the words "man eating bear" crosses their lips every hunter and game warden in a ninety mile radius would be ready at moments notice to clap the creature with a copious amount of lead-injections

That's what I was thinking the whole time. If the hibernation cycle is no more than a year and even if it does move to another area after the previous hunt, there is no way that within the two month period that it is hunting the same area the local population wouldn't have gotten together, got strapped, and hunted the thing down. I can't think of any area in the USA where a man eating anything can start a killing spree and not get clapped immediately upon discovery of victims. That's literally human modus operandi, start killing people, get got.
@sacWeapons
@sacWeapons 2 ай бұрын
after the man-eating sharks off the Jersey shore started killing people in the early 1900s, the entire east coast basically armed itself and started massacring every shark on sight. There is no way a creature could hunt Humans in the same area for so long without going down in a hail of bullets.

Colossal squid were actually not discovered by going deep into the ocean. We found their beaks in the stomachs of sperm whales for a long time, so we knew that they were probably out there, but we couldn’t exactly classify a whole species based on some beaks and a description of tentacles from some Norwegian sailors. We didn’t see a whole colossal squid until the 1800s, but only a piece of it could be recovered. A whole colossal squid wasn’t recovered until later, but those were both corpses. I think a living colossal squid was found in the 90s, but it died within a few hours. And just like tales of the kraken, there have been tales of sea serpents that are even older, but they have never been validated. You have to remember that sailors of the past drank a LOT of alcohol on the job. When I say a lot, I mean enough to mistake a manatee for a mermaid, because that’s literally where the idea of mermaids came from. Absolutely hammered sailors seeing manatees. I kid you not.

From what the creature looks like, I feel like it's related to the ancient "land crocodiles," basically the ancestors of modern crocodilians that were capable of living entirely on land and wereadapted for life on land than modern crocodiles. The ones in particular that these reptilians from Cryptid remind me of are either the Notosuchians or Sebecids. Sebecids like Barinasuchus (the largest Sebecid) lived in South America, growing to 6+ meters long. There was also another South American land croc known as Boverisuchus (not part of either Notosuchians or Sebecids, but part of another family known as Planocraniidae). Boverisuchus was VERY unusual as it had hooves, which allowed it to chase down prey. It also lived in Germany to western North America during the Eocene 50.3-41.2 million years ago. We even have some crocodile ancestors known as Rauisuchians, which some WERE bipedal like the infamous Postosuchus. Of course, all Rauisuchians lived during the Triassic period, and all went extinct during the Triassic period (though some fossile evidence suggests SOME may have lived into the Early Jurassic). The face and body structure remind me of the land crocodiles. I believe it is a descendant or a close relative that took the same evolutionary path to enable it to efficiently hunt on land, able to have both bipedal and quadrupedal locomotion.

Fun Fact about Anglerfish: Many species of anglerfish have proportionally larger females than males. Some of these species have evolved to have the males literally attach to the female when one is found and becomes apart of her to mate. Up to 6 are able to and it’s due to the vastness of deep ocean environments. They connect by biting onto her and slowly fuse with the bloodstream and all internal organs besides the testes fuse. I don’t understand your distaste for them Roanoke! 😂

As someone who lives in Colorado, the number of people who don't under stand the danger of bears is amazing. Also amazing are the people who have to question if they should be applying bear spray preemptively. Anyway, just like with The Beach House, I'll keep suggesting the worms from Blade of the Immortal until you tell me you forgot who suggested it and hate me for it. Finally, a movie where it makes sense that no one is strapped... it's a samurai movie.. with worms!

As a southern Nevadan resident, we go high alert when bobcats and cougars are seen near neighborhoods. The thought of a bear ANYWHERE in our state and we'd all be hopped up on our rad water ready to drop this NCR mascot

Neat fact. I was living in Alaska for a bit, working as part of a crew for a Bigfoot documentary. Late one night, I woke up to the walls of my tin and aluminum trailer BENDING INWARDS. A trail cam we set up revealed the culprit. Not Bigfoot, but a momma Grizz (or Kodiak?) With two cubs who woke up from hibernation a whole ass month early using my trailer as a back scratcher. We obviously had to scrap the project at that time. Could've found a Sasquatch in those woods if not for Bertha and her tikes

You said it yourself, people are leaving places like Maine in droves, causing the remaining populations to end up reproducing with semi-close relatives. Same case in Vermont where certain family names can’t reproduce with each other due to lack of diverse population

This reminds me of an X-Files episode, or could have been one, especially if the deforestation was actually a cause. Along with monsters of the week and aliens, it had a surprising amount of, "don't F with nature" because when you do, it'll eat you.

Roanoke I love how you react to hostile life the same way I do, homeostasis with nature through superior firepower and minor war crimes. I grew up very rural with large predators like cougars, bears, and canids, not to mention the various venomous snakes so I have a very jaundiced view of the beauty of nature and have taken on a very Imperium of Mankind attitude toward anything that can threaten us, particularly "No pity, no fear, no remorse."

You know, as someone who works in a force multiplier heavy industry, who carries one every day, who never has one out of reach a single second of the day, I just realized how much it bothers me when people aren't armed in these movies. For me it's part of my body almost, I couldn't imagine being without it, so seeing people get got because they didn't have one just unsettles me somehow. I don't know why.

Hey @RoanokeGaming I truly enjoy your videos and have been watching them off n on for some time now. I enjoy the scientific angle you provide in your videos when it comes to some of the monsters/creatures. I've recently come across a show called Scavengers Reign and it is really amazing, it is filled with loads of interesting life forms. So I said that to say this. Would it be possible for you to maybe take a peek at the show and maybe pick some of those life forms and maybe do your thing with them? Please and thank you Papa Roanoke.
