i think part of kovu looking like scar was to play into simba's ptsd. He can't help his bias because all he sees is scar.

Fun fact: During Nuka's death, in a deleted scene, Nuka says to Zira, "Well, I finally got your attention, didn't I?" Basically showing that all Nuka wanted was his mom's approval. Also, during Zira's death in a deleted scene when Kiara offers help to save Zira, Zira actually says, "No...never" and intentionally lets go of the cliff. It shows that Zira would rather die than accept help from the people who killed Scar.

Technically the lions didn’t even kill Scar. They hyenas did and they did it because he decided to blame them for Mufasa’s death. Sadly Zira would have never believed that I think.

This film is the best Disney sequel. The first one is a retelling of Hamlet, this one is Romeo and Juliet. I also like that the title has 3 meanings: Simba's pride in literal terms is his pride of lions, Kiara is his pride and joy, and Simba's emotion of pride causes an issue. I love the songs and the story feels like a natural aftermath of the first one, it makes complete sense that Simba would be overprotective and untrusting after what he has been through. I think many people in today's world could learn from Kiara's message in this film. If you want a laugh, I suggest the other animated film, Lion King 1 1/2, which is more of a comedy from Timon and Pumba's perspective.

Yes, I also feel that it was like a continuation or consequence of the first movie, and the story was not over yet. And I completely love Kiara's lesson that has been transmitted throughout the movie: we are one, if we learned it the world would be in absolute peace too, right? I also love THE LION KING 1 1/2 I always feel very sorry for Simba in the nightmare he has trying to save his dad, but that repeats itself; but it really moves me that his love for his daughter Kiara helped him do things right and heal his pain in some way.

I love the original & Simba’s Pride. In terms of 1 1/2, I do enjoy it as well, but I do not consider it canon. As far as we’re all concerned, the genuflection of the Pride Landers to Simba as a cub was authentic and there are no televisions within the Lion King universe.

"They grow up so fast" Yeah lions and animals in general have alot shorter life span than humans. Lions in general live about 14 years so they grow up quickly most lions fully mature after 1-2 years

Regarding why there are more lionesses than lions in Simba's pride, it's because in real life, a typical lion pride would have just one, maybe two males max. I've seen instances of three or four, but it's usually just one. The males protect the pride and its members, and the lionesses hunt and feed the pride, and of course, have the cubs. Of course, as this is a Disney movie, this is toned down and fantasized into a monarchy, but yeah. XD Actually, Simba does canonically have a son, so there is at least one other male lion in his pride. A show called The Lion Guard came out in 2015, starring Simba's son, Kion. It's a show made for Disney Junior, so it's more for little kids, and is a bit more mystical and not as serious at times, but as someone who eats up any and all TLK lore, I am quite fond of it. >w< Kion is Kiara's younger brother (they are the same age, she was just born first), thus while she is the heir to the throne, as the second born, he leads the Guard to protect the Pridelands. Obviously, as The Lion Guard was not a thing at the time of this movie coming out (TLK2 came out in 1998), Kion was not in this movie, but they did tie The Lion King II: Simba's Pride and The Lion Guard into each other in several ways. Kiara is in the show, characters from TLK2 make cameos, and it's shown that Kion was away during Zira's attack on the Pridelands, which explains why he wasn't there to help. Also, some info and interesting tidbits about this movie: Zira was originally supposed to be Scar's mate, and therefore her cubs would also have been Scar's, including Kovu. But then they realized that'd be incest, so... :'D They dropped that real quick. Zira is just a very loyal follower of Scar, and none of her children are his. Zira's name means "hate" in Swahili, Vitani (Zira's daughter) means "demon of war", Nuka (Zira's eldest son) means "stink", and Kovu literally means "scar". In a deleted scene (which is soooo much darker but I wish they would have kept it in because it made so much more sense for her character), Zira did not simply lose her grip and fall. She refused Kiara's aid, said "No... Never..." and voluntarily let go. Super dark, but... I think that ending fits Zira far more. She was literally obsessed with Scar. She absolutely would be the type to die for her convictions.

13:36 In a real lion pride, there is almost always one male who hangs out with a bunch of lionesses. He basically leads them. He marks the territory, leads them to different hunting grounds, fights off any other males that wanna take over his pride, etc. He is also the only one to mate with the lionesses. Meaning all cubs in the pride are his. When the females get older, if they don't leave, well, you know where I am gojng with that. BUT when the male cubs get older, the pride leader will see them as competition and kick them out. It's a very strange dynamic. And sometimes a cub will develope a bond with the leader and be allowed to stay but that usually doesn't happen. Also, if there are more than one male lion in the pride they are usally BOTH leaders. They over threw the previous one.

2 important scenes that never made it thru the final cut because Disney back then thought it will be too dark and send bad messages. First we have Nukas death scene. His real last words: “I’m sorry mother, I tried. I guess I finally got your attention, didn’t I, didn't I?” This makes Zira even more barbaric, in that she didn't take Nuka's last words to heart and realize that she'd just thrown away Nuka's life in her quest to get vengeance on Simba. He didn't hate Kovu for being the chosen one. He hated Kovu because he got all the attention from Zira, completely neglecting Nuka. Only in his last moment he finally got his mother's affection. The other scene is Ziras death. Many have wondered why she smile when falling to her death. After Kiara says "Zira come on! I'll help you!" Then Zira grins and with something between a menacing, evil whisper and a hissing she says "No! Never!" And then she let it go, falling down. Her death was a suicide. She was too loyal to Scar to accept any deal with "the enemy".

The one thing I found interesting was the polar opposite take on of Zira and Scar... Scar wanted to become king, and killing Mufasa and Simba was just a means to an end. Zira wanted to kill Simba, and taking his kingdom was just a happy benefit. One wanted power, the other wanted revenge...

About the idea of Kovu being Scar’s son, the reason why the writer decided against it is because his romantic relationshio with Kiara would be incest, since they would be 1st cousins.

Animals are different from people, gene pools work differently. Big cat and other animals are able to have relationships with their siblings or other family members. But I guess because it is still be a children film they didn’t want the message coming across to be incest.

I also like The Lion King II; I love the song We are one, also He lives in you and Love will find a way. The story is also excellent, and Kiara is the heroine, along with Kovu, but I feel that Simba has not stopped being the protagonist either. In addition to Zira, she is a villain equal to or more sinister than Scar, evil and psychopath. I always feel very sorry for Simba, in the nightmare he has trying to save his dad, but that repeats itself. and I always love the ending when: Mufasa says to Simba: "Well done my son, we are one"

Thank you for reacting to this movie. Most reactors watch The Lion King but *never* the direct-sequel which is just as good as the first. And also, my ex-best friend had an interesting perspective on this movie: she thought that it was about how the world was between white people and black people was like during the sixties and that Simba was a white person that refused to let his daughter see Kovu because he's black. The pride land was for white people while the poorer part of the pride land was for black people. In the end, both lands come together hand in hand, accepting each other. Just like white people and people of color in the late sixties and early seventies.

Out of all the songs in the movie, my top 4 favorites are "We Are One", My Lullaby", "Upendi" and "Not One Of Us". I love how this movie was loosely based on Romeo & Juliet, while the first one was Hamlet.

Scar wouldn’t tell his wife and his son Nuka that Kovu is his son because if he tells him he will tell Simba and then Simba would kill Nuka and Kovu.He wouldn’t tell Zira because she would kill him if she found out and Scar being a male Lion would stand no chance against Zira. NO CHANCE!

I know you’ve already reacted to 2 Lion King films, with the 2nd one requested by yours truly. Would you be open to a 3rd one? What about the “live-action”/photorealistic Lion King movie? It’s an adaptation of the original, released in 2019. It is officially the highest-grossing movie ever produced by Walt Disney Pictures, highest-grossing musical of all time & highest-grossing adaptation of all time. I assure you that you would make money out of it. Just try not to compare it to its cartoon counterpart and expect the same kind of “magic.”

@@mazanreacts In the lion world in real life it happens to be the Alpha male. ends up mating with all the lionesses if a new lion takes over kills all the cubs and then mate with all the lionesses . if 2 male lions are in the pride all male cubs when old enough leaves the pride.

I believe that Kovu is Scars son. There is a scene that was removed from the film where Scar seduces Nala and he looks so much like Scar. During the song Not one of us Kovu looks in the water and he sees Scars face which indicates that Scar is his father.
